- Bob why don't you explain that the flat tax is really the social security tax. This will be the first year it starts paying out more than it takes in, and in 20 years seniors will be lucky to collect 70% of their benefits. Obama said this was a one year fix, now he wants another year. Time to start paying for this stuff instead of throwing seniors under the bus.

- That's not truly Congress. That is Obama, meddling in the business of Congress, through his puppet, Reid.

Wow, talk about the pot calling the kettle black, Bob. Maybe Congress doesn't see themselves as people in positions of power capable of finding solutions to complex problems ... just like you don't.
I thought people wanted Congress to work on the deficit? So you want Congress to work on the deficit, or do you want Congress to keep taxes low?
I think Bob is avoiding substantive discussion because he can't reconcile seemingly competing needs - Congress is the EXACT SAME WAY!!!!!!!
Bob is just using blame to avoid having to deal with his troubles (the nation's troubles - their his troubles because he's got a network news show). Talk about dysfunctional!! OMG Bob!!! :o - Reply to this comment
- All term limits does is limit my choices. If my representative is doing a good job and I want to keep him/her there, term limits would not allow me to do that. There was a reason that the Continental Congress soundly rejected term limits.
Besides, we already have term limits...it's called voting!!!! - Reply to this comment
- It was stupid for the Senate to pass a 2 month tax cut (defunding Social Security) and paying for it by increasing taxes for a year on people trying to take out a mortgage. The housing market is already in the tank. This was a stupid bill.

- The people of Ohio could do this country a great service by not re-electing John Boehner.

- The Senate voted 89 to 10 to pass the bill in the Senate but House Speaker Boehner refused to bring it to the House floor for an up or down vote. An up or down vote would have identified house members that voted the bill down. Boehner knows how to play politics and protect his Republican cronies from their constituents.

- On the plus side: Think about how it would have been if the House had managed to ram-rod through some of their more outrageous bills and amendments; Or had shut down the government. In addition, if it all wasn't so heartbreakingly sad, the House's antics and the Republican debates have been very informing and entertaining for the American people. The Romans had their bread and circuses. We have our tax dodges and congress....

- I think Bob Schieffer's comment that the two parties are equally to blame misses a couple of points. The original stand off was Democrats resisting budget cuts and Republican's resisting tax increases. The Democrats have compromised by agreeing to substantial cuts in expenditures but the Republicans have resisted any tax increases. Now, even holding a middle class tax cut hostage by opposing a tax increase on those making over $1,000,000 a year. the over whelming evidence is that the Republican's are to blame. Their primary argument against that tax increase, that it will penalize "job creators" is specious. There is little or no evidence that job creation is influenced by the marginal tax rate. Even with the tax increase there is still plenty of incentive to make more money.
by trying to appear balanced in his commentary Mr. Schieffer distorts the public's understanding of what is going on in Washington. - Reply to this comment
- VOTE THE BUMS OUT! Every damn one of them. It is time the average American took back their country with a resounding unified voice : No more career Politicians. They are not what this country was founded on. Even George Washington at the birth of our nation warned about two party politics. Do your research people: He was quite plain when he said a two party system would be the downfall of this nation. This is what we are experiencing now.
Professional politicians and the pandering lobbyists that follow them need to be gotton rid of. Politicians are supposed to be from the populace: people who are willing to put their lives on hold to do something good for their country. They should be willing to pledge their lives, their liberty and their fortunes for the honor of serving. - Reply to this comment
