Our officials can deny it all they want, but it was clearly hacked and landed safely. What's more it's transmission and encryption codes were changed by the Iranian hackers and no signal to self destruct could be sent or control reestablished. All battery backup has been disconnected too- just in case there is a back door the CIA can use, but by now it's sitting in a transmission free room.

Things could start to get very complicated! There is now the VERY real possibility that Iran has the ability to take control of an American drone and send it back to attack US or Israeli targets, or take control of a drone over Afghanistan and make it fire upon American forces.

Is this where the whole idea of a pilotless drone fails.......?

Serves you right I guess for not minding your own damn business.

But, seriously? You don't know how it landed in tact? If they launch a cyber attack, they can take control of the craft, and land it themselves.

We're still worried about Russia? I thought that ship sailed in 90's shortly after the Soviet Union disbanded.

These comments make for entertaining reading on a cold Winter's day. No one really knows much about this incident yet -- except maybe the informed "anonymous sources" that like to leak classified information to the media. Members of congress perhaps? Anyway I hadn't heard of the "Sky Grabber" app -- very interesting.

No self destruct feature? Even our spooks have become incompetent.

Military officials originally said controllers lost contact with an RQ-170 drone as it flew over Western Afghanistan. However, sources say the spy plane was actually on an intelligence-gathering mission deep inside Iran.

Sounds to me, and by the looks of the pristine shape of the aircraft, like the un-manned control system was hacked into by Iran, who then landed the drone softly on their soil.

If true, that doesn't bode well for American intelligence.

I'm just wondering if there is some reason we wanted Iran to have this. Like its a decoy or a way of handing them false information.

Now why with all the technology this aircraft has does it not have a self destruct device installed? You know, so we do not have egg on our face like this has caused! A little Semtex weighs nothing!

I suspect both Iran and the U.S. are lying about this. The "drone" in the video looks like a fiberglass model, it's the wrong color for a stealth flyer, there's no reason to cover the bottom of it, and there's no explanation how it was taken down without any damage. What the Iranians get out of this is a propanganda extravaganza. What we get out of our "admission" of the "capture" is that it takes the spotlight off the search and recovery of the real crashed drone, while the Iranians can't exactly accuse us of lying about it. A win-win situation.
