- @AAnnie52, your comments are more a part of what the problem is with parents continuing to allow their children to never grow up AKA the Occupy. If there weren't so many people doing axactly what you say can't be done, your belief system might hold water.

- "For Young's parents, it's been a sacrifice as well. Her mother had to take a night job to help support her daughter."
Am I the only one seeing something wrong here? Why didn't daughter take a night job until she can start her own career? Most/many 23-year-olds are up until 3 or 4 AM anyway.
Mom, give her the old ultimatum. Tell her you're tired of working night jobs and it is time for daughter to help out more. Get a job, any job, Mickey D's, Wal-Mart, other. Agree/request to work night shifts. - Reply to this comment

Hey Sarge, I'm a retired CPO and take issue with your comment. My son graduated from college last spring and is currently living at home due to not being able to find a well paying permanent job to support moving out.

Well, considering I left home @ 15 because of an abusive father with $1.58 in my pocket and have been taking care of myself ever since, I don't have much sympathy for a 22 year-old who can't manage to do it...... - Reply to this comment
- What's astounding is those same adults will walk straight into a voting booth and vote republican. I know exactly how we got here. I voted for Ronald Reagan. A decision I deeply regret.

- I got my two (of three) college grads at home. We don't mind, we're a strong family unit. My youngest graduated two years ago just moved up from part time to full time ! Music teacher.. we still worry about budget cuts, meanwhile she is paying off her debt by living at home.
My son graduated 2008 and just caught the beginning of bad times, though also working part time in his major "Marketing' that job ended in the middle of the recession, he started his own and landed several companies.. recently took couple courses in graphic design.. and land a full time job though not salary but hourly assisting the marketing department with web site, catalog, brochures.. we'll see what he wants to do in another year as I hope the economy slowly turns around. I don't mind he is at home, he helps with the grass, yard, Christmas lights, fixing the house and cars. We just went to Toledo and picked up a beater car to fix into a race car and run at Nelson Ledges... Do things with your kids... to help them stand on their own... Maybe soon I'll help him get his own apartment so he can be on his own. Coming up on 4 years come next May. Time he moves out, His Mom and I will miss his presence though, but its better for a young man to move on !
HANG in there kids... try and work part time in your field... open up your own self business in your field.
My youngest daughter a music teacher also teaches kids at home on the side also.
They both volunteer almost every night at the Church youth, young adult activities at church.. ROMAN CATHOLIC ...BTW CBS - Reply to this comment
- she and others can volunteer for military service until the economy rebounds. just because you have a degree in graphic design doesn't mean auto employment. for that matter, many of the degrees aren't a portal to auto employment in a bad economy. in the meatime, there is cleaning houses, waitressing at multiple locations, handyman/woman type of work. they can also volunteer for the peace corps rather than just stay at home with parents. there is also manual labor in states where illegals have fled due to new laws against illegals. know what it's like having first hand experience including being homeless at one time long ago.

Not surprising. Considering how expensive things are today...
---
I see this all the time from people here.
Depends on what we're discussing - needs or luxuries.
Staples are cheap.
At the turn of the 20th century, a man had to work approximately 4 hours to pay for a chicken.
Now he works 15 minutes to pay for a chicken.
You get needs and wants figured out correctly and life is relatively inexpensive these days. - Reply to this comment
- Many of these kids are pampered and stay with mommy and daddy because they can't afford to live a pampered lifestyle themselves.

- This isnt a shock really.... families in Europe have been doing this as long as i can remember. Most often till the "child" is in their 30's simply because getting into the job market there is so much harder then it is in the States.
Anyways... Good luck finding work. - Reply to this comment
