- What is this "period" that cloburns or SCB are referring to? I recall Nixon's 1962 campaign for Calif governor and his 2 terms in the White House quite well, and my distinct recollection was that "Tricky Dick" -- as he had known for quite a while to his many detractors (including my staunchly conservative father) -- was ANYTHING BUT "admired and respected even by those who disliked him." He was regarded (and not just by his Democratic opponents) as secretive, almost to a neurotic degree, so that by the time he resigned in disgrace, people who looked back on his entire career came to regard him as having a bit of a split personality: the "good Nixon" and the "bad Nixon" was the phrase at the time. People don't change their stripes all that much at the age Nixon was when he became Eisenhower's VP. I think it's just that it took him until he won in 1968 to give himself full reign and show his true colors. In fact, the early signs of his suspiciousness, preoccupation with secrecy, and mild paranoia have been spotted by a number of his biographers (some of whom are conservative) well before he ran in 1968.
Also, check out the superb movie, a surprisingly sympathetic story of his life, that Oliver Stone, of all people, did a few years ago ("Nixon", with Anthony Hopkins in one of his greatest roles), if you haven't seen it already. A real eye-opener to his inner demons, his hellaciously poor childhood, etc. He actually comes across as a (partially) tragic figure in the movie, but certainly not well-liked by much of anybody.
Although I am seriouly not a fan of either Tricky Dick or Caribou Barbie, it's not clear to me why Nixon's meltdown after losing in 1962 ("OK, fine, you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore!") was an emotional outburst that was any more "understandable" than was Palin's. Though I would surely agree that when Nixon could maintain in a more composed emotional state, he was massively more intelligent than Palin will ever dream of being -- he wrote (not ghost writing, he personally did the research and writing) a number of history and foreign policy books, beginning a couple years after he resigned, that were highly regarded, including by moderates and many Democrats. An interesting comparison, all the same. In fairness to Palin, though, she is a bit better looking than Nixon, gotta give her credit for that . . . - Reply to this comment
- Having to see you idiot reporter write about swine flu, Michael Jackson the pedophiler and Sarah Palin a person that has no clue and never will, shoved down our throats is unbearable. Start writing something, like real news not this cheap trash. We are really sick and tired whit all these subjects. Enough already.

Lets see, Obama spent 2 years in Congress, and most of the time voted Present. He served as an Illinois State Senator but again he was mostly like a Community Organizer. So lets not go into credentials because by your standard, Obama does not qualify either

Before you compare Obama's successful political career to Palin's failure to successfully complete her governor's term in an apparent attempt to head off an upcoming scandal that would have ruined her career as the governor of Alaska, perhaps you should go back and actually research the krap your posting about Obama. It's abundantly clear from your comments that you are a very LOW-INFORMATION VOTER...you're content with obsessively indoctrinating yourself with the hate speech and political smears of others to mask your ignorance of the facts....
The Republican base is filled with LOW INFORMATION VOTERS who are routinely duped into supporting political positons that will not serve them..... - Reply to this comment
- This is a pretty big state - with plenty of places to hide. When CBS asked Palin's press secretary today when the governor was returning, he said "I wish I knew."
This sounds like Sandford doesn't it we think he is hiking on the trial. "I wish I knew."
Sounds more and more like the reactionary party line I wish I knew I don't recall I don't know. More and more dumber than dirt responses. Even Rove says it is risky truth be known it is useless. - Reply to this comment
- the two party system is dumb at this rate - there are dems who don't sway right along with Oboma, and there are Reps that do - there were dems that swayed with bush, and reps who didn't (one used to be McCain before he apparently drank the Rep-Right-Wing Kool-Aid and sabatoaged his entire career..)
As of the last portion - I would have voted for the 2002 version of John McCain... not so much for the 2009 Re-Imagining... I hate remakes. - Reply to this comment
- It amazes me at the number of ignorant uninformed people there are in this world.
bob-bob..you obviously dont know the definitition of Fascist...let me educate you...it is GOVERNMENT control of banking and industry...When has Sarah Palin advocated anything like this?
WAKE UP...look at what the Obama administration is doing...they now own General Motors...control the largest banks, are fighting to control Health Care...and have rammed legislation through congress to control Energy, via cap and trade. If this legislation makes it through the Senate, we will ALL pay.
bob-bob..please do some reading and educate yourself before it's too late. Your individual freedom (whats left of it) will be gone, along with any chance to fulfill any dreams you might have. (If you have any) - Reply to this comment
- You might want a better poster child for the republican party than the paranoid, communist "hunting", watergate scandle creating warmonger Richard Nixon... just saying... if you did need to compare Palin to someone - Dead on dude.
Hey btw, while you're at it can you mention all the Good things hitler did?
Or how about Regan-nomics? Oh wait... your morons still think trickle-down-theory works... - Reply to this comment

- Sarah Palin lacks the aptitude to know anything. The only thing Palin proved by quitting was that she was incapable of successfully completing her term as governor.
