Get the USS MIssouri out of mothballs, and let those 16 inch guns blow this ship out of the water! The navy needs target practice!
Send a battleship? Why waste the time and energy with a battleship when a gravyboat will do. (Ahem!) - Reply to this comment
- Let's build a new fleet of 20 Cheney class battleships!

...nuclear development with the intent of blackmailing the rest of the world to subsidize their inefficient and failing economy?

Maybe we should use this philosophy and get someone to subsidize ours!!!! - Reply to this comment

- Some are saying to "just bomb them back to the stone age". (It's not that far back for NK) The big problem that I see is that the people that would pay the price are the South Koreans. It's very much like dealing with a killer with a knife to the throat of a hostage. At the first sign of an attack, the North will unleash a hailstorm of conventional rockets, artillery & whatever else that have upon the South. Yes NK's nuke facilities can be taken out with precision bombing, but unless the arsenal of conventional weapons that are already targeted on Seoul are secured, there could be thousands of dead South Koreans. Not the best outcome.

- When the North Korean,"cargo", ship docks to refuel, they will be boarded by either the port authority where the dock, or U.S. forces.
Can't wait, as Lil' Kim's already stated that this would be an act of war. Of course, he won't DO anything, but make more threats, and shoot more blanks into the Pacific.
However, if the ship DOES have nuclear material or weapons, it's time for a pre-emptive strike on North Korea's nuclear facilities, and a blockade of ALL it's ports. - Reply to this comment

As far as shooting the missle down, don't count on BO to give the order, as with the pirates, the commander of the American ship gave the order, Obama just took the credit.
The only reason the commander of the American ship was able to give the order, was because Obama told him he could. - Reply to this comment

- Obama did not give the order, the commander fell back on navel regs that gave him the authority to give the order to shoot, they waited for four days and knew the order was not going to come from Obama.
- Aldymac,
There is no Navy REg that authorizes a ship commander to kill a nonmilitary criminal that is not attacking a naval vessel in intrnational waters. Start reading and stop listening to pundits. That order came from the White House. Even if the commander had given the order, the SEALs would not have listened to it because they do not work for him. They are simply using that ship as a launching point. There are many unclassified regulations that govern the employment of special operation forces that you can use to get a little bit more educated before you start ranting!!! Right now I think you are misinformed. If you keep repeating it, then you just are a liar.

- One thing I learned in Nam was to never underestimate your enemy, they are still getting help from someone who also has something to gain, or they wouldn't still be in business. The Chinese aren't in the least bit afraid, if they were they would do something about it.

- You are either very uninformed or you are simply lying. The commander of the ship was not in chrge of the SEALs, they just gave them a ride. The ship commander has absolutely zero authority over the SEAL team. That command had to come from the White House or Pentagon because it dealt with a nonmilitary police action in international waters. Just a little reading will take you along way.

Talk about propaganda & drama! N Korea is not dumb enough to lob anything at any of our territories and IF they did, shoot it down duh, the take care of them. Drama. Thats all it is. - Reply to this comment
- The folks who should be widdling in their jeans are the Chinese, Japanese and the Russians. All three, not to mention Mongolia, Viet Nam and the Phillipines are potential targets for this madman.
But not us.
We are out of reach. Their best warhead delivery vehicle, the Taepodong-2 missile has a top end range of 2800 miles and that's only with a following wind. 2500 is more like it. Even the Aleutians are farther away than that. Hawaii has 1500 miles of wiggle room. There is speculation that NK will have an upgraded version that can go 4000 miles but the best intelligence guesses are it won't be operational untill 2012, if not later. By then Kim, if he is still alive, will have all he can handle keeping his own starving masses from storming the gates and dragging him and his cronies off to be barbecued.
Kim is a far bigger threat to his own people, South Korea, and those Asians he can actually reach than he is to us. And it's not as though the launch of a ballistic missile - for whatever reason - is going to go unnoticed. Our millitary is keepng a third eye on that lot and as soon as Kim makes his move, should he be silly enough to make one, shooting it out of the sky would be a walk in the park. - Reply to this comment
- The ship the NK has sent out is probably a decoy, the NK are needing a good laugh and fully expect the Americans under the new leadership will give them one.
The missle on the other hand is just another test to get the range they need to put one directly over the top of us with a neuclear warhead. Once exploded, all, telecommunications in this country will cease to exist, but don't worry, the backup plan is this, "Bush is to blame". - Reply to this comment
- The missile is targeted towards Hawaii but does not have the range or distance to reach it.

- All of you chest-thumping couch taters should rush down to the nearest U.S. military "career center" and get your war faces.
Fact is, our idiotic wars of occupation against 6th rate Iraq and Afghanistan have left us totally unable to respond to the actions of a 5th rate North Korea.
Thank God we don't have to go up against real enemies anymore. You know... the kind that can shoot back. - Reply to this comment

- Ya know what, this could be a really good thing for NK to do, send a missile toward Hawaii,... IF... SK and the USA have a missile defense system in place. I bet the military personnel monitoring their system(s) would love to have some live target practice. Keep sending them up NK and we will keep shooting them down.

- N.Korea's only resource is it's perceived nuclear threat. It is time to stop cowering before this self inflated clown. Is our future to be crowded with small countries striving for nuclear development with the intent of blackmailing the rest of the world to subsidize their inefficient and failing economy?

- The firing any type of missile by a hostile country at a US state or territory is an act of war and must be dealt with as such.
Just shooting down the missile will not be enough or the next time it will have a nuke with our name written on it.
I am glad President Obama is in office, I do not expect another 9-11 or Pearl Harbor with Obama as the other Presidents who just let it happen. - Reply to this comment
