If he is making money selling five cars so what and isn't that the business man decision..

And you folks talk about Bush taking away freedom..
Posted by vistavermin1 at 5:28 AM : May 24, 2009

This dealer's GARBAGE BUSINESS MODEL is the reason he is closing. He had the freedom to run his company any way he chose to, he did, and he is closing because of it. I feel no pity or sympathy for him.

But I do feel sorry for the employees and customers that he has continually and consistenly F ed over, over the years.

So what, do the mechines pay the rent, lease or mortage on the dealership, do they pay the insurance, workers comp, liablity, fire, property. Do they pay for the lights, heating, water, sewer. How about advertising and the rest of the staff that supports the mechanic service writers, car boys, etc... .
Plus the 100's of other expenses that a business has as overhead.

Stick to being a screw cause you sure couldn't make it in business.

I worked in the private sector and if you EVER did, (which apparently you haven't), you would know that GREED drives ALL business models.

Big business make tons of money, and refuse to pay their employees what they're worth. Do you think that $50 PROFIT -- PER HOUR -- per mechanic, is a fair profit margin for the employees OR the customers?!?!? Do you think that a markup of 100 TIMES the cost of a single part is a fair rate?

Why do you think so many businesses hire illegal aliens? So they can pay them $5 a day and don't have to pay them a LEGITIMATE wage, or health benefits, or disability insurance, or taxes, or...........

Stick to your sandbox.

The real world is far too much for you to comprehend.

Sales are down so fire the salespeople..

Doesn't make any sense so it makes sense that the Obama administration is doing it. Dealerships do not cost the manufactures any money. Now we have one less person talking the value and good things about a Dodge...

Obama and his Car Czar at work.

So a dealer should stay open and sell 5 cars a month, with a staff of probably 10 people to sell those 5 cars?

Keep guessing boy. You aren't even close.

A friend of mine traded in a small truck when he bought his new 1/2 ton truck. He wanted to know what the dealer would charge to buy his trade in, the dealer had priced it for $5,500 more than my friend got at trade in. No wonder the dealers are building 3 story dealerships with all sorts of look pretty but costs a lot perks. The greed in the auto industry started in Detroit but went all the way thru the business. And now they admit they wanted to close down dealers to INCREASE their per unit profit-fewer dealers equals less chose equals charge more for the product. Seems they are piling greed on top of greed.

By the way the ten cent light bulb doesn't really cost the dealership 10 cents,, There is a thing called overhead..
Posted by vistavermin1 at 5:01 AM : May 24, 2009

BS.

I used to work at a tractor trailer dealer, (same turn signal light bulbs), and we used to buy packs of ten for around a dollar, and turned around and sold them for much more than that.

You're nothing but a big business apologist, just like your pathetic attempts at trying to be an apologist for the GOP / conservative movement. If you had a clue your comments MIGHT be taken seriously, but your constant guessing / speculation proves beyond a doubt that you have no idea of what you're talking about.

Do you deny that the dealers charge their customers $60 and hour for labor, while paying the mechanics $10 an hour?

You're clueless boy. Go read a book.

Five cars per month? He was *really* taking his customers to the bank if he was making a living from that few car sales.

This is proof that capitalism does work and that the auto manufacturers are putting the bailout money to very good use. Capitalism weeds out the inefficient (e.g., only 5 cars per month) and the auto companies are indeed doing the heavy-duty restructuring they promised to do in exchange for bailout funds.

That said, virtually any car salesman, of new or used cars, should have the common sense to not expect sympathy from customers they've ripped-off since opening their doors for business. I guess it's time for them to get jobs like the people to whom they sold inferior cars.

Why are they losing to the Japanese? Again, because capitalism works. Money flows to superior goods and services. The "invisible hand" has slapped American car makers and dealers for producing a lousy product when it was clearly possible to produce better, and that's why so many of us--both Democrats and Republicans--drive Japanese-made cars today.

auto dealers have been taking the public for years, including their service departments and used car sales too. some have multiple dealer outlets in the same town, in the same location, selling foreign and domestic autos/pickups. they sell unsuspecting buyers things they don't need like undercoating, an extended warranty, and so forth. dealers, for the most part, have laughed all the way to the bank for years. else, how to explain so many dealerships in every town? obviously there was lots of money to be made, even sports figures were buying and establishing dealerships. money, money, money..money! sing it now.

I find it hard to feel sorry for ANYONE that made a career out of screwing his customers for maximum profit.

When some came in for repair work, did he charge them $60 an hour for labor, ($10 for his employee and $50 for himself), or $13 an hour ($10 for his employee and $13 for himself)?

When he sold a car to someone, did he sell it for "cost + xx%", or did he say, "I've got a live one here!!"

When he sold a customer a turn signal bulb, did he buy it for $.10 and sell it for $.20, or did he buy it for $.10 and sell it for $10?

Sounds like bad karma to me: "What comes around, goes around."

He did it for years and made a fortune, now it happens to him, and we're supposed to feel sorry for him? The words "TOUGH SH**" come to mind.

I see no reason why this dealership wouldn't be able to remain open as a quality used car facility. They could still take trade in's for newer cars. They could add new tires to their line, and also still do repair work. It might not be the piece of cake that it once was, but it would still be a business. Like the old saying goes, if you're handed lemons, make lemonaide.

weed, you really don't think the Republicans would have done the same thing, or worse? In case you haven't noticed, the GOP is MUCH more interested in Big Business than it is in the average worker. Republicans would be giving oral to the automakers right now...why is it that so many conservatives are too ignorant to realize that the GOP is government for the rich, by the rich? Why do they all happily give up their economic security in exchange for empty promises on side issues like abortion, immigration, and guns? It's the biggest political scam in history, and you're falling for it. HAW HAW sucker.

Taxpayers paying for Socialism and nationalization. Hmm.I can hear Fidel, Stalin and Mao saying: "See I told you it wouldn't work."

We called communism a failed social experiment when the Soviet Union fell. Now capitalism may also prove to be a failed social experiment. Human greed was always the engine of capitalism, now also its demise.

If we had given the Auto Corporate Welfare Bums twice as much money, would they have closed twice as many dealerships? I do feel a little pity for the lying scum dealers and their employees, but not for the manufacturers. They have ignored the consumer for decades by selling us overpriced unreliable automotive junk that warranties could not fix. I am still waiting for an apology from the Prez of GM for selling me that 2000 GMC Safari van. It was engineered to fail.

Car dealer deserved to go bankrupt since they cheated on most of their customers. This goes for import as well. i bought my car "an 2000 honda preludet" used for 11k. The dealer or steelership as we sometime call it..price it at 13k. dealership always over price their cars over the kbb because they know that their customer like to talk the price down when it come to purchase a use car. That way they wont lose money when the price is agree between the dealer and customer. To make extra cash..they even talk me into buy a 2yr/24000 miles extended warranty..plus a GAP option for $3,000 with jack the price back to 13000. At first i thought the warranty will cover all the repairs if my car break down. But instead..when i took my car for a leaking oil repair the shop told me that i have to pay an extra $200 deductible plus the warrenty doesnt cover after parts which i have to pay. They say the only cover the labor.. my car cost me 1000k to do the repaired...warranty covers 700 and i have to pay 300 extra.

how many of his mechanics has he screwed over the past sixty years to keep himself living well, with yachts and memberships and the like. maybe now he knows what its like to be a worker. but , I doubt it. even losing the place, i'm sure, unlike his employees, he'll still be quite well off having kept 2/3's of all the profits for all these years. the only ones really hurt in all this is the employees. like the bailouts themselves, it's all us little guys takin' it in the rear.

Steak, medium rare, and a baked potato with lots of butter and sour cream.

But thanks to Pelosi, he'll be eating franks and beans

for the rest of his life, because Pelosi stole his retirement to help her buddies at Chrysler and GM retire wealthy.

Greg Signore, who owns Elm Dodge in Kearny, N.J., says he feels backed into a corner. And he's angry....

The real losers in all of this slick wheeling & dealing, over the years, are We The People Again. The Auto Manufacturers, Dealers with the help of their friends in Washington, have made it legal to lie, cheat, overcharge, misled the People when it comes to price.

They've managed to thrown just about everything on the consumer concerning extra costs. You have delivery charges, taxes of all kinds, notary fees, additional warranties when you're 3yr or 36,000 mile is up. But you must purchase at the time to save?? Then all you have to do is pay an extra 100 to 200 dollars out of pocket if a problem develops after 36,000. If no problem you pay anyway in a lot of dealerships. The hidden emission testing that YOU are required to get an pay for. Service charges and normal wear & tear items charges through the roof, and the lists goes on. Pretty slick trick as Auto, Congress & Lobbyists have developed a fool proof Game plan of trick the Consumer.

The Auto Industry, & Congress will not lose a thing when this is all done. They have stacked the deck against us consumers over the years. They know what to say how to say it an how much profit they will all make. Only NOW it isn't a matter of losing money, and never was, its just a MATTER of how MUCH profit they willing to accept.

Instead of selling at a price that the People MIGHT pay they believe in raising prices for BIGGER profits. Then you hear all this talk about inflation because all these Outlaw Corporations & Congress want RECORD profits and OUR CONGRESS will gladly stick up for them for a small fee. Time to all come together and Boycott this Business as Usual Agenda.
