First, the biggest mistatement - "The vaccine also protects against anal cancer, certain types of throat cancer and it prevents genital warts" --- Very wrong. Gardasil "protects" against 2 "cancer causing" HPV and 2 that cause warts. There are 36 other "ano-genital cancer causing" HPV and many more that cause warts. Gardasil offers a low percentage of HPV prevention that is not yet proved effective and only "protects" BEFORE infection.
If you are already infected (HPV is very common), the vaccine cannot help. The passive target antigens in Gardasil stimulate the wrong part of the immune system, the Humoral Immune Response (antibody production). HPV is a surface infection, it is not bloodborne.

The part of the immune system that fights an HPV infection is called Cell Mediated Response (CMR) or Intracellular Response. T-cells fight tissue disease such as virus and cancer. Infected cells send up an alarm, detected by T-cells this alarm results in some T-cells converting to killer cells hunting and destroying infected cells, virus or cancer. This is a simple description for a complex process that can be interfered with by poor nutrition, toxins or genetic defects. When HPV becomes chronic there is some type of problem with your CMR.

Less than 10% of the population becomes chronically infected with various HPV. The rest of us eliminate all types of this virus without doctors, drugs or vaccines. Annually less than 0.1% develop cervical cancer. Hardly a public health threat calling for the most expensive mass vaccination in history, draining billions of health care dollars away from real problems and lining the pockets of Merck executives and scientists.

Gardasil, one less vaccinated is a start. The FDA and CDC acting in the public interest would be better.

While I sympathize with your mom and the physical and emotional pain both of you have gone through. You obviously don't understand this vaccine or the cold callous people that run Merck.

Gardasil is not the answer to cervical cancer. Even if it works as Merck claims at least 30% of those girls will still get a "cancer causing" HPV infection. It is still not proved that HPV causes cancer, something that Merck doesn't tell you in advertisements but they clearly post that information on their website under "cervical cancer".

Additionally Merck cannot be trusted. Why? Vioxx. Merck knew in 1996 that Vioxx caused clotting, heart attacks and strokes. The executives and scientists at Merck hid this information for 9 years and threatened the independent scientists and researchers who tried to tell the truth. Around 45,000 died as a direct result in spite of Merck's policy that "Nothing is more important to Merck than the safety of our products...", a horrible lie.

Merck published fraudulently about Vioxx, had Dr. Drazen of the New England Journal of Medicine state Merck "hoodwinked" the journal about Vioxx and Merck bribed Elsevier to publish a fake medical journal pushing its products. They did this for money, murdered for money. Merck CEO made 221 million last year. The company has been bribing many professionals and politicians in the push to market and mandate Gardasil. I can prove every statement I have made here.

My daughter has had extremely bad reactions after having the Gardisal shots ... 1000's of hives covering her body, swollen lips, eyes, hands, etc. I have taken many pics and have kept a diary. She has also been hospitalize twice. She carries an EpiPen everwhere she goes. We need answers and HELP !!

My daughter got the vaccine in May 2008 and is still having health problems, but is doing better. There are a couple groups on yahoo that offer support one is Truth_About_Gardasil and the other is Lets_Talk_about_gardasil. While we may not have all the answers, we are very supportive and have found a few things that may give some improvement.

Merck developed the Hepatitis B Vaccine that triggered Multiple Sclerosis in me in 1995. It's been a horrific struggle with MS. I'd have taken the Hepatitis B disease over MS any day! Merck needs to be sued. They are destroying our neurological systems one person at a time. They use INAPPROPRIATE statistics to lie about the safety of their very bad products. They used a Harvard MD to allege that MS in Hepatitis B Vaccine users is the same that it is in populations that do not use the Vaccine. He skirted the issue of the vaccine being a "trigger" to cause development of MS in some patients. Watch for Merck to use similar strategies to sell their GARBAGE to innocent victims and hurt more people. Merck really has it in for women don't they? MS is mostly a white woman's illness, and Guardisil is given primarily to women. I'm a pharmacist and a physician and I'm warning everyone to please watch out for anything put out by this company!!!

There are risks with everything. Walk outside and you might be hit by a truck. Get the flu and you might die as well. Nothing is risk free. Should all drug companies stop running ads until their products are proven to be risk free?

Don't be mislead because a drug company is holding up a "solution" to what your mother is unfortunataley suffering. Young girls are dying or loosing their lives without even getting the opportunity to grow up. The important part of your comment is that your mother lived. What this money should be spend on is educating people on safe sex, not having multiple parteners etc. We just can't have a shot for every possible illness. Our bodies can't handle them.

My daughter (12) has not had the vaccine and I am holding off until I am convinced it is safer. My daughter's doctor and I had a very uncomfortable conversation whereas I told her I want to wait until there is more positive information and further research on Gardisil and the doctor got defensive that I was "questioning her judgement." She says she would never suggest something that wasn't safe. Well, the CBS story suggests otherwise. I'm going to print out the VAERs report and bring it with me to my daughter's next doc visit. It's a crime that parents and children are being "pressured" into this vaccine. I would rather keep my daughter's personal health matters between us than potentially giving up her health and possibly her life to the drug companies who are using our children as guinea pigs. Becoming informed and talking to my daughter is going to be my "vaccine" for her until the number of and type of risks are diminished. I realize no vaccine is 100% safe but the hype and pressure around Gardisil is ridiculous.....parents must decide for themselves....and follow their OWN instincts. Don't fall prey to drug companies.

Our family moved here from England 3 years ago, for my husband's work. We are now applying for a Green Card. I have just been shocked to learn that our 13 year old daughter is required to have the gardisill vaccine in order for us to obtain a green card. I had wanted to wait a few more years to allow more time to pass for research. I can not believe that we are being forced into giving our child this vaccine. I do not feel at all comfortable having this choice taken away from me and that our entire future should hinge on my 13 year old having this controversial vaccination. I think this is a very personal decision for each family and certainly should not be part of the immigration proceedure.

As a divorce father of a 16 years old teenager daughter, the apple of my eye, I was totally opposed to this injection. Sadly, although I have in divorce settlement, "shared parental responsibilities", I have no saying on the matter. The mother does with my precious daughter as she pleases and with the Parmaceutical Companies, bombarding our children through T.V, Commercials and even the movies, it is very difficult for a divorce parent to have any influence on the kids. Now, after reading this article, I am petrified. She just had the first shot and needs two to go. This story needs to be an eye opener for people to listen up and get all the info you can before subjecting your precious children to ideas born from others who make big bucks to advertize and force these so called cure all shots on the public.....I work in the medical field and my daughter did not get or will never have these 3 shots...I have to agree with tuanofulano state laws and school boards demand we sometimes unknowingly put our children in the face of danger for what big business wants in the good old U.S.

We have an eight grader and a freshman from Chillicothe, MO that seem to be affected by the Gardisil. One has not been able to attend school all year and the other one went on homebound the second sememster after her 2nd shot. They are in extreme pain in their abdomen.

My daughter was injured by the gardisil shot. A normal, healthy 18 year old, now has to take steroids and beta-blockers just to be able to function! Shame on Merck. I wonder if the SVP''s of Merck allowed their daughters to receive the shots? I doubt it.

My normally overachieving daughter began having an increasing number of headaches and waves of nausea after her first shot. I did not really think it had anything to do with the shot because she was very stressed about school, exams, and deadlines. Seven days after her 2nd shot she had a seizure. We took a trip to the ER and they could not find anything wrong with her and diagnosed her as fainting. (Fainting would have been OK but I watched my 17 year old daughter on the ground convulsing. And this is nothing I have ever witnessed before nor do I ever want to see again.) After the seizure the headaches and nausea were almost constant for over three weeks. She has undergone every type of diagnostic test available including a colonoscopy and other things that a 17 year old should not have to undergo. All of which came back normal. The Dr%u2019s have all blown off my concerns that it could be related to the shot and so my daughter is %u201Cone less%u201D possible side effect that is not being reported. I have emailed and posted on many sites including the CDC but with no response. I just think we need to let parents know that these side effects that they talk about could be more than a passing feeling or nausea.

My daughter is 15 she too started getting severe headaches and bouts of nausea after her shots, but I'm not really certain how long after the shot it started to happen. I brushed it off to be related to school stress. She had started high school at a college prep school and she was making some adjustments.She had her first seizure -fainting spell at my mothers. She woke up crying and afraid. She had her next one last night. She is sick to her stomach about once a week. She has muscle pain in her legs and has bad headaches about once a week as well. She always seems to be tired. When she has a real busy week at school followed by a very social busy weekend she crashes by Sunday. I'm so worried. She has been to her doctor numerous times but now I have an appointment with neurologist Friday to see what the heck is going on. Please keep my posted on your daughter and I will do the same.
