Well, if your name is Joe, you would be in jail, BUT, if your name is Bernie, you would be all "locked up" in your (what I can only imagine is a horrible fate) penthouse suite - Reply to this comment

- Seems like the only crooks that can get away with murder (ie. fraud) is the sobs running our government. All involved and the CEO''s of the failed banking industry should be rotting in a prison cell. Where I would be if the ordinary "JOE" did this.

- I bank with BB&T and this morning I will take my money and place it in a bank that did not get any of this money stolen from the American Taxpayer.

That reminds me of a friend that had a check returned for insuficient funds. He had to call the bank and ask if it was his funds or theirs........... - Reply to this comment

So true, and no matter what or how we personally feel about the incoming administration, we should pull for them to be successful, however we can, because if the new admin. fails, OUR country will fail. - Reply to this comment
- This the last gasp for the Bush administation to give money back to the rich finanaciers of HIS corrupt government, and congress bought it. Paulson I''ll bet will be on the BOARD of one the finanical institutions HE gave money too when his job is done in two weeks. You know 700 billion is not enough the banks will come up with some other false crisis so they need more money, their executives did not get enough money to go on vacation and AIG needs more SPA time. Obama your being given a 50 pound bag of s*** which can only hold 10 pounds.

- You always have to have some kind of socialism though. Capitalism by itself never works without being corrupt. Its always too greedy. Probably now more than ever with these overseas markets. But something tells me that there''''s not much new about it either.
Posted by william412
Agreed. To properly put the PEOPLE first implies in itself that there will be a measure of socialist behavier and governing. If there was one thing I could remove from the planet, it would be greed. But that, again, is another fine line to navigate. Any business owner has to have the desire to profit, which by pure definition, is greed. And no, there is nothing new about worlwide greed, except the things that people are greedy for. - Reply to this comment
- #1 The road out of this mess will most likely be as, if not more, messy and painful than what is going on now.
How can you have fair business practices though? You can''''t compete. People in other countries are willing to work for far less, and don''''t have unions. Or standards.

Goes back to OUR country FIRST, tarrifs are one option,... extreme answer... close the doors to the rest of the world, please realize that if I had the best answers, I would be elsewhere :) Maybe a somewhat better approach wold be to stop rewarding American Cos. for going abroad for their production needs. Most likely a combination of solutions, or policies, is the best way to go.
....Is the exploitation of overseas markets an inevitability? The only way to end the genocide?
Posted by william412 at 05:50 AM : Jan 13, 2009
Absolutely. Exploitation of oversees markets is an inevitability. I don''t think it''s the ONLY way to end genocide. But we must weigh the costs of ANY extenal actions against our own survival.
Or is what we have wrong?
Posted by william412
No, what we have allowed to happen is wrong. What we where designed by our Forefathers to be is what we need to get back to. There is nothing wrong with trading worldwide, but we HAVE to keep OUR own country alive and profitable to survive, otherwise we will bleed ourselves dry to the point of no return - Reply to this comment

Oversight is only ONE of many roles of gov''t, it''s main role is to put the interests of OUR people (majority rule, yes, Democracy) and OUR country FIRST.
However the members of our gov''t have become obsessed with their own interests, bank accounts, and campaign funds. Any and all members of gov''t., at any level, AKA PUBLIC SERVANTS are supposed to leave their personal interests behind, in order to properly serve THE PEOPLE. That''s what''s left. If we don''t get back to what we were meant to be, what we once was, we are, I am afraid, truly doomed to socialism, and that''s a crime I don''t know how I would deal with.
and William, it''s always a pleasure to read your posts, I mean nothing personal, I am simply passionate about OUR country. - Reply to this comment

Gov''t is not to be the baysitter or safety net of capitalism. Unions were created to protect workers from unfair bus. practices that were inflicted directly upon the workers by the businesses themselves. Seems that we, as a country have failed at all fronts. None of these are now what they were intended to be. The govt. has become the socialistic babysitter capitalism, the unions have turned the table on bus. and now hold their ''nads in a vice. The Constitution has been distorted and twisted into something it was NEVER meant to be, and now OUR Country is paying for it at a very high price. What''s left?....What was first, what was meant to be, what was supposed to be. What was for so long until it all got so distorted by our greed, our gov''t, our burning desire for immediate gratification. We are a nation in crisis, and we have to go back to basics or we will continue down the road we are on, which, as you rightly said is to a socialist gov''t. although that is against what our Founding Fathers intended. I don''t approve of what unions have become, I beleive that they should also go back to basics. That would take the gov''t out of the business babysitter role. Reinstate oversight, ensure fair bus. practices. You should absolutely be abe to make a fair profit in OUR COUNTRY, that IS capitalism, but it''s not the job of a democratic gov''t to run bus., but to observe and insure the rule are followed. - Reply to this comment
- socialist government/capitalist system. One question though: If its not business, then whats left
Posted by william412
Our govt has to walk a very thin line, for the very reason stated in your 1st 2 words..socialist govt.
We are a democracy, we are not to be socialists, or have a socialist gov''t The gov''t is elected by the people, of the people and FOR THE PEOPLE (I know, out of order) For the people, not for business, not for capitalism. Internal capitalism is the free market that we, as a country should be dealing with first, world market second. Govt. oversight, which in recent yrs has all but ceased, was only to protect the people from profiteering, price fixing, monopolies and unfair bus. practices that would (will, have) cause[d] undue problems for We the people,. ..continued - Reply to this comment

- ....I think the problem might be with the economists because the ones who have risen to the level of governmental advisor are the ones who have devoted their entire lifes'' work to expounding on the merits of free trade . . . . That''''s a really tough situation there.....Posted by SamTheTVCat
Yes, a tough situation indeed. Although there are way too many people hurting from it now, like I said, the solution, whichever one does work, will be painful. Possibilly even more so than the crisis we are in. I would also like to add that in addition to the total govt. housecleaning I mentioned earlier, lobbyists and lobbying in general, should be prohibited. Specificaly because lobbiests most generally only represent businees interests, and although we are a capitalistic democray, the govt. itself is to represent the PEOPLE. Maybe, along with separation of church and stae, we should campaign for separation of bussines and state.......
