The easy answer is that many of the newly arrived immigrants are not U.S. citizens and can''''t vote. But Latinos hold a slight majority even among U.S. citizens of voting age.

Documents released Monday by the Federal Energy Regulation Commission revealed Enron Corporation deliberately created real and imaginary shortages during the 2000-2001 California energy crisis, in order drive up prices and reap vast profits in the state%u2019s newly deregulated energy market.

Internal memos from the now bankrupt company outline the various schemes Enron executives used to defraud officials running the state%u2019s power grid, manipulate energy supplies and literally loot the state treasury of billions of dollars. Throughout this period Enron enjoyed the closest political ties with the Bush White House, which rejected appeals from California officials for federal intervention and the imposition of price caps.

Residents in the country%u2019s largest state suffered through six days of rolling blackouts in early 2001 following a tenfold increase in energy prices. The price hikes caused the bankruptcy and near-collapse of the two large utilities, leading to the layoff of thousands of workers and the wiping out of many small investors. In addition, state officials imposed severe budget cuts due to a rise in energy costs from $7 billion in 1999 to $27 billion in 2000, and after laying out $6 billion to buy daily power and another $40 billion to secure long-term contracts and stabilize the state%u2019s energy supply.

Calie-fornie-aaah file for banruptcy and shut the state government down for a few days. This shutdown would force the illegals to head south towards their native countries and no longer be a drain on the state''''s economy. Sure the illegals provide a service that most in the state are willing to pay for but do the illegals pay any taxes? If you haven''''t or don''''t pay any taxes what gives that person a right to claim any social benefits? If millions are skipping on paying taxes, then you have what is happening in California. So would a population decrease of a few million help out the economy of California? Heck yeah!!

If population decreases how do we prop up our infinite growth based economy? It demands exponential growth in consumer base, do you think it is sustainable? The illegals "problem" is just a distraction from a failed economic system and its short term beneficiaries true motives.

Calif. needs to do a heck alot more than tax auto plates and gas and merge their agencies! They to enforce OUR immigration laws and stop allowing the ILLEGALS to use their schools, hospitals and all the other services that tax paying Americans have paid for. They need to make all employers use the E-Verify system. Non compliance would result in major fines and forfeitures. Within months the ILLEGALS would pack up and take their little anchor babies with them. Only then will the healing of Calif. woes begin. The problems will not be fixed by taxing the true American citizens that reside in California!

In the LA Times today - Go to the site and read the article. If California wants to support Mexico-fine, but don''t come begging for federal taxpayers money.

Madera, about 20 miles northwest of Fresno, has had Latino residents as long as anyone can remember -- probably since it was founded in the 19th century. Today''s Latino population is a mix of long-established families, many of them securely middle class, and a large influx of newcomers, many of them poor, Spanish-speaking immigrants from Mexico.

The city of 55,000 is more than two-thirds Latino. Yet just one Latino sits on its seven-member school board. Why can''t a Latino majority elect more Latinos?

The easy answer is that many of the newly arrived immigrants are not U.S. citizens and can''t vote. But Latinos hold a slight majority even among U.S. citizens of voting age.

California needs to:
- Raise automobile tag and taxes, and gas taxes This is a simple way to get money from all of those illegal aliens that avoid paying their fare share of other taxes.

And this comes as a surprise???? The CA legislature has been over spending for many years, and yet we are one of the highest taxed of all states. Time to kick them all out,and put in some one with fiscal responsibility. If we could only find one.

Let CA legalize and tax marijuana sales. The big reason it hasn''t been done already is those in power see it as "political suicide" if they favor this. Yet how can they can expect re-election if they bring their state to the poor house? I do not smoke weed but it''s time to get tax$ from other sources.

Well, governor Terminator, don''t ask the government for it; they''ve already been duped by the banks and the auto industry! Why don''t you collect it from all the thieves and robbers in leadership there and do something about all the greed? Gangsters getting rich from all the trash they put in our young people''s minds; over paid athletes and movie actors; over priced homes, and the list goes on! You have it coming California! Unfortunately, the good people of California pay the biggest price!

Look at every single department of our government,,,,how much is wasted on things that are grossly overcharged,,,just because it was the government paying the bill?,,,,how much is overpaid because of lobby commitments? If government services like INS worked ,,,,why all the illegal immigration? You see there is not one single department of our government that isn''t mismanaged,,,,some drastically worse than others,,,,such as the joke named FEMA. When people want to know why we have the problems we do....look at our government...they are the so called leaders who have done exactly that....lead us to disaster...while they have been running the show.

And as it has vowed, the Palestinian resistance was waiting for the occupation soldiers to foil their aggression, killing nine of them and wounding dozens others, according to Ezz-eddine Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas%u2019s military wing. Hamas resistance fighters also said they have destroyed an Israeli Merkava with a B-29bomb.

Hamas announced it had captured two Israeli soldiers, an event which, for Israel, would highlight the political risk domestically of sending its troops into Gaza.

this is just like on a national level....forty plus years of two party destruction politics .....all those great ideas from both sides of the isle have led to this huge clusterfuk we are experiencing right now with the economy,,,,After all aren''t our elected officials the ones with all the brains to run things?,,,,until you mix a little greed into the mix ...then you start getting what we have now.

I live in Va. and the waste of tax payer money is just unbeleiveable. All of the so called "official vehicles" riding around and doing nothing, fire and rescue trucks clogging up the Pizza hut parking lots,Vdot running up and down the road spreading salt and rocks when the sun is shinning. The cost is in the millions for nothing.I wonder why we have no money.Kaine said he would not raise taxes,so far he hasn''t,but I wish he would have because he raised every fee he could get his hands on.
