CBS Evening News Exclusive: Placid Midwest Town Turned Upside Down By Alleged Hit List And Secretive Group
- Theres more to the story of City officials not issuing permits. SIST is behind some $270,000.00 in taxes on multiple locally owned businesses. Why should a small town city continue to issue permits, when theres no actions being made BY THEM to get taxes caught up. Every U.S resident owning property is responsible for taxes. No exceptions. Im tickled pink that this has finally made it nationally, and everyday forth coming SIST is continuing to give themself a bad reputation.

Try this then. The comment box seems to break up the URL link. AOL video that opens another streaming video of local Green Bay news report concerning SIST leader Naomi Isaacson. It appears to be current, but this has been going on for six weeks or longer. Not really sure if she''s still protesting her arrest by not eating. - Reply to this comment
- Did anyone watch the news? The Canadian guy said his wife is Italian, so of course they have a connection with the Mafia!!! A little bit of stereo typing. If his wife is really Italain, I bet she has some pretty upset relatives. Also, Red Rum? Uh, I think I read that in Nancy Drew, or was it Hardy Boys? A bit junvenile for my taste, but then what do I know? 60 hits for $175,000!! Boy these guys are going to put the Mafia out of business. As far as I know you can''t get anyone to do a hit for less than a million, but these are hard times, maybe now a half a million will do the job. .5 times 60 = $30 million. Gotta have a lot o green stuff to get 60 people done in. Good business for the local morgue though. Anyone investigated if the local undertakers are behind all this? I watched some of the youtube stuff, looks like they are poking fun of the mayor, kind of like you call me a cult so I''ll call you a cult and see how you like it. Seems like a new approach for the cult zombies out there. Also, isn''t the news kind of compromising the FBI investigation? Usually, the FBI moves pretty fast, they are kind of slow on this one. 2 months? Must be slower around the holidays?

Here you go, one of the local news reports concerning the situation. FYI, Naomi Isaacson looked pretty sickly before she was arrested. She was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued in Maryland for failing to appear in court. She also has some court history regarding real estate in Minnesota. - Reply to this comment
- I heard about it through the town people were freakin out when they heard. yah

- Some idiots think a mass murder plot by a secretive cult isn''''t news? Wow. You are way, way, way too obsessed with politics. Take a step back, and just for an instant, pretend your mom, your daughter, your best friend, and a few others live in that town. Then think about how a murder list with 60 names on it is meaningless to you. - Posted by SusanHelit at 01:33 PM : Dec 18, 2008
There''s more to this story that isn''t being reported.
I understand the concern of the community, and you are absolutely right about taking this seriously.
It''s almost as if the Feds who are investigating it are afraid of another Waco/Koresh incident.
There have been numerous witnesses of former members claiming child abuse and other inhumane treatment, why isn''t more happening? Are they credible witnesses?
The YouTube videos made by SIST member are pretty weird. They definitely feel they are being singled out because of their religious beliefs, and maybe they have been. I don''t understand why the city government has been refusing them building permits in the downtown retail district. Are they afraid the businesses will attract more would-be SIST members to the area? Or is it that they just don''t want them to be successful by opening new business ventures?
There''s a lot more going on in this little town than what is being reported. Dirty little secrets on both sides and the real truth is not being told. - Reply to this comment
- I for one live in Shawano and I think that it was really scary when I heard about this.

Wow, did you hear about it on the news? or did you hear about it in town (rumors, and such)? Its'' a small town. It seems like people would know something was up. - Reply to this comment
- This is a prime example of people clinging to religion and guns. It certainly has been a concern of the area for thirty-plus years. The recently ''hit list'' activity is somewhat cloudy though, many conflicting reports have been circulation throughout the various local news stations. Original reports stated that the $175K was a sting operation, masked as a payment to construct a world class go-kart facility in Shawano. SIST spokespeople stated that the effort was to promote drawing more tourist revenue into the area. I wasn''t aware of these reports that it was tied into the hit list until recently. Shawano is a small town, and it relies on tourist money to survive. The FBI has supposedly been monitoring the "religious group" but very little has been made public. This situation seems like a payback for all the pressures the local govt officials have been putting on the group. Obviously, the locals are, and have been very concerned with the operations of SIST. The occupy a very secure ''compound'' and are reported to be heavily armed, but in no way has their ''cult'' been a public nuisance until recently. They purchase empty building in a dying downtown retail district and then the city refuses to grant them building permits. This is a really bad situation that is just getting worse.
If the FBI would come out in public with their ''findings'' the community would feel a bit safer.
Obviously, this is a real mess. - Reply to this comment
