People stop using taxes as an excuse to vote McCain. Taxing the people has been the way since the birth of this country. Obama is honestly telling you he will raise taxes on 250G and over. If you are under that magic number you are safe. Remember Bush''s "read my lips, no more taxes." Now McCain is saying the same thing as Bush and your guys are falling for it AGAIN, OMG. When McCain gets in the White House he is going to have to break his promise of no taxes. Why, because what runs this country and any other country in the world? TAXES!! Wake up people Obama is telling you ther truth and McCain is lying to get your vote. Stop talking about taxes, its a way of life in this country and any other country in the world.

Someone said earlier that economies historically have done well under dem presidents.

I lived through Jimmy Carter, my mortgage was at 18% and I had to have a minimum of 20% down to buy a house, waited in lines to buy gas on days I could.

Those type of dem successful economies I can live without.

Economic performance is measured by growth in GDP. Beyond that, you might also look at jobs and stock market gains.

WHAT bank EVER charged 18% as an interest rate on mortgages?!?

Posted by grouchyjohn at 10:53 AM : Nov 02, 2008

The mortgage rate in the 1970''''s was about 10%.

The gas shortage was due to the US supporting Israel''''''''s sneak attack on Egypt and the resulting "Arab oil embargo." That had nothing to do with Carter, that was the result of the US (Nixon) supporting our favorite socialist welfare leech, Israel.

Typical lib, dem president inherit all of the problems by Republicans. How do you guys keep getting elected????

Posted by CPelzar at 11:00 AM : Nov 02, 2008

I KNOW, I KNOW (waves hand madly)!!!

Because the Republicans are SO evil, SO corrupt, and SO greedy they make the Democrats look good by comparison.

Silly question, actually, given current events.

Gas lines started long before Carter was elected.

The gas shortage was due to the US supporting Israel''''s sneak attack on Egypt and the resulting "Arab oil embargo." That had nothing to do with Carter, that was the result of the US (Nixon) supporting our favorite socialist welfare leech, Israel.

Carter inherited the same kind of mess being left by the Bush administration & GOP.

Perhaps you also remember "Whip Inflation Now" (WIN) buttons. That was Gerald Ford''''s answer to inflation.

Perhaps you remember "stagflation" (inflation and a recession).

Carter got the blame for events that were beyond his control.

Same as our next president will be blamed for Bush''''s miserable presidency and failed policies.

But, don''''t let facts interfere with your decisions.

No one else in the GOP does, so why should you?

McCain represents more of the same old failed policies of the Bush administration.

You asked for an example and I gave you one as dramatic as your comments. I do not know of any person on welfare employing anyone or creating new jobs.

I am not against paying taxes, but they should be proportional. Currently the top 5% pay 50% of the taxes and we are approaching a point where 48% pay no taxes.

Exactly how much of my money do you take before I just say I have had enough and will not invest in creating wealth or jobs and longer.

How much?
Posted by CPelzar at 10:42 AM : Nov 02, 2008

I asked for proof of major selloff in real estate, stock holdings and other capital investments. An example of how one individual selling off is not proof. There has to be a substantial number of such individuals to affect the market.

If the the top 5% are paying 50% of tax receipts, that simply means they''re accounting for most income and reflects the growing economic inequality in America. I don''t see arguments about high tax rates in this country as persusasive because we don''t even have universal health care and more than 40 million of us are without health insurance. In most industrialized countries, health care coverage is provided for all. You''d think their economy would crash just from the tax burden they must endure.

Wouldn''t it be nice to see the results of a survey of all of the mega-rich that lists:

a) How many jobs they created in America

and

b) How many jobs they created offshore

with their tax savings?

lolllllll....look around you, though...it would just put the obvious into writing.

Way back in the old days after the Republican debacle of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, the Country wanted a CHANGE. Coming forward was a candidate from Georgia, a Governor. Jimmy Carter appeared on the scene as a Democratic Party unknown running for President. He talked of changing Washington business as usual, changing foreign policy business as usual, and being an outsider.

The Country narrowly gave him a victory over more experienced people because his message was seen as a breadth of fresh air. In our haste to put Watergate, the beginnings of an inflation problem, and a gas shortage behind us we never stopped to look at the credentials of this candidate with a fresh outsider message. We just knew that Jimmy Carter represented a fresh start and that he was not of the beltway. Sounds like another candidate running today, doesn%u2019t it?

Jimmy Carter was elected with 50.1% of the vote, but a clear majority of Electoral votes. His handling of the economy resulted in a 40% increase in prices over three years, the prime rate moving from 6.75% to 21.5%, and mortgage rates of 17.5%. Oil prices skyrocketed and Carter instituted an energy policy. This ill conceived energy policy was based on conservation and high prices to help reduce U.S. consumption. It was a policy that simply punished this nation for using oil. The Carter administration economy proved to be the catalyst that brought a %u201Cmisery index%u201D to the voters in the next Presidential election.

Don''t vote for John McCain because of hate or fear of another human being another American. You guys want to use fear and hate to describe Obams, you call McCain a war hero. Well let me play your game, Why are the POW records of your war hero sealed? Why? Wouldn''t you as a war hero want the American people to see the ORDEAL you went through at the hands of the NVA and the notorious the Bug? Is there a violation of Article 5 of the Military Code of Conduct in those records? Is there letter of reprimand in there stating the collaboration with the NVA @ the Hanoi Hilton. What is in those records that have to be sealed. Heroic actions or violations of the Code of Conduct? Ask yourselves these before casting your vote for a war hero..God Bless America and all Americans.

Is pretty funny....most of the time CPelzar is ranting about the Americans who bought houses "they could not afford" and preaching about they should have known better than to buy something when the interest rate was bound to balloon.

Then he makes up an 18% interest rate on a home loan...

And my money will be invested elsewhere and not given to you who has created nothing and believe that we all should support your habits.

Sorry, I will wait this one out.

Do you intend to renounce your citizensship?

That is the only way you can avoid paying taxes.

I see no coherence in your "plan." (liquidate into a bear market so you can invest in a bull market to avoid paying taxes)

Kind of like McCain & the GOP generally.

I see no coherence in their "plan", either.

Unless, of course, the "plan" is to bankrupt the US and compete with Zimbabwe for the highest inflation rate and lowest standard of living . . .

No, thanks. I don''''t like that "plan."

Would the country''s collective point of view be different?
Could racism be the culprit? Ponder the following:
What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

Vote Obama

I know one thing: If there is such an entity as "Mother Nature", the Republicans better start running.

I do not think "Ma Nature" is going to be pleased when she considers how many trees died just so that the Repubicans could stuff the mailboxes of myself and my neighbors with hate and lies.

WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TRUST IN THESE TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES? Should you trust a proven veteran with ability to reform and work across the aisle or the most liberal, partisan, rookie senator who wants to "spread around" your hard earned dollars?
Posted by DemocracyWin at 10:39 AM : Nov 02, 2008

In difficult economic times, you can do no better than choosing to vote Democratic. Democrats deliver better economic performance than Republicans. That''s because Republicans get distracted too much by social issues.

America stop listening to John McCain''s fear and hatred ads. America vote your heart, not your hatred or not your fears. Stop and think why is McCain using all these negative ads to instill fear and hatred. An honorable man would not resort to this type of campaign. Young Americans tell your grandparents not to be affraid, the McCain ads are a desparate measure to try to get your vote. Tell your grandparents that your future is in their hands. An honorable man would want to win on his merits and experience, not on fear and hate by his followers.
America is a great country, let''s choose our leaders the right way and show other nations how democracy works...God Bless America and all American, yes ALL AMERCICANS, because we are all Americans, not just the republicna party..All Americans bled for the freedom of this country. All Americans

I can justify taxing your health insurance benefits
but not giving that money to the poor to buy health insurance.

That would be just like squeezing a balloon at one end.
People have to be responsible for their on insurance.
Some people receive higher pay instead of insurance.

Good.

You now oppose John McCain.

Make sure you vote on Tuesday!!
