- This is the fault of feminists who refuse to date men who honorably served their country and are attracted to men who shoot heroin into their veins.

- Combat training, and especially combat experience, messes up your mind. After this stupid war is over, there will be over a million GI''s walking around trying to deal with their war experiences. Some will manage, many will not.
The true cost of Bush & Co. is yet to be paid. - Reply to this comment
- Is anyone surprised? What kind of men enlist in the military these days? It''s usually redn*cks with no other options.

- OTHER countries seem to be able to mix men and women in combat without the men abusing so many of their female comrades. So, it isn''t just "nature" or "genetics" or "evolution" or even the "will of God" that causes this problem. It''s the US military system and the people in it that is the problem.
It''s not really surprising, considering the military brass don''t WANT women in combat, so they don''t work very hard to fix the problem, and because the current military personnel consist primarily of desperately poor yokels who thought the military was a "good career choice" and criminals who joined up to escape jail. Add to that the fact that the military culture only understands ONE law, "might makes right", and what else did you expect? - Reply to this comment
- Maybe it is not a good idea to take thousands of men, place them in an isolated area for a long time and then send in a couple of women.
Less women on the frontlines may be easier than restructuring society or reprograming a gender. - Reply to this comment
- I agree with VcofReason. And women are undoubtedly the most abused sect of the population worldwide. In America, I would like to see women go back to not being so liberal about their sexual behaviors and men should not be asking for it. It''s called mutual respect and it''s something the liberal minded folks have really worked to get rid of in the past few years. If it feels good do it is the motto now. I can do what I want - I''ve got rights. Well, it''s not made this country a better place and Americans are less respectable than they have ever been. Ladies - it''s time to go back to setting the standards high and setting appropriate boundaries. Everyone is happier and healthier that way. Liberalism and denial of issues is not the path to success for this country.

- Women don''t belong in combat. We liberals think we can improve hundreds of generations of natural social evolution with our fuzzy laws to re-engineer society. We''re doing a great job.

- they are all volunteers. with the negative news of va hospitals, military equipment, they keep volunteering. the military has supposedly lowered standards for new recruits. these volunteers are paid bonuses to volunteer and re-enlistment bonuses. it is an all voluntary military. bring back the draft without bonuses. finally no one should be raped and those that rape should be executed especially in a combat zone, by firing squad.

- Hmmm...
The truly alarming aspect of this news item involves the unreported *** crimes.
I counseled veterans for a little over 8 years. The women could talk about it but it was very difficult for the men. It was as if they were less than a man if they had to admit that something like that had ever happened to THEM.
It was shocking to learn that many MEN had been forced to have unwanted *** with another man; usually by the threat of death or physical harm, usually involving a weapon.
I once saw a horrific photo of a veteran, taken the day after four of his fellow U.S. Marine Corps members sexually assaulted him. The four took turns beating him and kicking him, followed by rape. Both eyes blackened, one completely closed, with bruises from head to toe; but the foot print bruise on the left side of his back was very distinguishable. He was afraid to go to sick call, but one of his friends finally took him to see a doctor. When asked what happened, the young Marine said he fell down some stairs. The doctor, a Major, threatened the Marine with court martial for lying to him, because, it would not have been possible to have anal tearing and
By the way, some of the bloggers who tout the man%u2019s military, are an embarrassment to the U.S. military. It looks and sounds like the Good Old Boy network is alive and well. - Reply to this comment
- I can''t believe it''s taken this long for this topic to come up. Does anyone have a historical take on this? I believe it''s worse now not because men and women are serving together, but because we are now fighting in countries which are based on religous and cultural values that do not provide for prostitution and/or accepts/encourages cross cultural marriages.

- Men who rape are spineless wimps and clearly mentally dysfunctional. They are an embarrassment to all real men.
They represent the worst of the male population and should be shot.

We agree on something again, drivelphobe!
Obviously there is something wrong with our training, with the basic upbringing of our people. It is 2008 and we are still in the stone ages.

It is indeed sad, that women who stand beside men, fighting for the same cause, have to consider that they might be their enemies as well. - Reply to this comment
- jellolion1, of course Kerry was right. I am truly amazed that people either haven''t realized or refuse to believe that Bush and his cohorts started lying in 2000 and haven''t stopped.

- The government has created a monster with the nonsense of mixing men and women in the military. The simple and effecient way to solve the vast majority of the problems currently bedeviling the military re man-woman problems is to reform the WACs, WAVEs, and WAFs, placing all of the female members of the US military into one of these services. Effeciency would rise and crime would decline. The mixing of women into the male military was a mistake of an experiment. Time to fix that mistake.
************************************************
AmJoe, this is the same rational that was used when blacks were added to white units. The mixing of the races was a mistake of an experiment too. THIS has absolutely nothing to do with the mixing of men and women in the military. Rape is a crime of violence, dominance, and control. Men who rape will rape regardless of whether they are in the military or civilians. What needs to happen is the active, fervent prosecution of these animals. Life imprisonment at hard labor without parole will not only protect the rest of the women in the military it will also protect their sisters, daughters, mothers in the civilian world. - Reply to this comment
- makes me think of Kerry''s speech in 1971. So he was right after all. All the vets hated him and said he was exaggerating. With these kinds of figures, it makes it sound like he probably wasnt exaggerating at all. Why can China, Cuba, Vietnam, and other countries have women in their military, in combat beside men, but we cannot. Obviously there is something wrong with our training, with the basic upbringing of our people. It is 2008 and we are still in the stone ages.

- I was drafted during the Vietnam war and counseled vets for the VA, while in grad school. I listened to Southern "Christian" Republicans with KKK leanings speak openly about how they''d like to "get back to the Nam and shoot some more dinks" and who openly gloated about raping Vietnamese girls, with one bragging about shooting her to "put her out of her misery ... after all, I''d do it for a dog." Body souvenir collections were then common.
It was these soldiers(?) who harbored the greatest hatred towards draft resisters and even non-combat vets - claiming in some delusional fashion that being wanton killers who loved exterminating others made them somehow, "more American" - that wanting to kill for America made one an American. Most wanted to shoot American protestors, hippy chicks, draft resisters, and "*** Commie-liberals", discounting each group as "un-American" and "unworthy of breathing the air I exhale". I see the same delusion in this war, by the same group of McCain aggrandizers - supposed Christians whose reasoning is more like that of insane, barbaric, imperialistic Crusaders. Then as now, raping women, even fellow female soldiers was part of their "dominant" pathology. In Vietnam, these rapists were fragged whenever possible. - Reply to this comment
