- The sexual victimization of military personnel includes male victims as well. This subject must be objectively viewed as a crimnal-predation issue and not a gender-victimization issue. The same social issues that allow sexual victimization to occur in the civilian sector also exist in the military. These crimes occur because the victim was accessible and vulnerable - whether civilian or military. Ending these crimes must begin by early education and socialization in elementary education as well as ending the male-dominant culture.

- I was born in 1950 and wish to God that my children and grandchildren could have been raised in that era. We lived on a farm, didn''t have much, but we ate well and learned to respect ourselves and others. Oh ya, my mother didn''t go to work until I was 14 and never missed an event involving me or my brother. I didn''t even know anyone who didn''t have two parents until I got into jr. high. I know kids who lived with their grandparents or just their mother, but from what I remember, we rallied around them...we didn''t shun them. It''s a ME..ME..ME WORLD now and it really shows in how we treat each other. I''m not saying that soldiers raping soldiers wasn''t happening back then, but due to there not being very many women allowed into combat, the opportunities were far less for that to happen. I suppose it depends on where and how you grew up. I was fortunate enough to be raised in a small community where mothers and women in general were treated with respect and valued as the cornerstone of the family.

- Sounds like they need an extra ration of ammo.
If we could get rid of the gang members, and high school dropouts, this would probably go down a bit. - Reply to this comment
- HOW do YOU propose Changing that back to the MUCH NARROWER GAP that was present in those "glory days" of the 50''''s and 60''''s so ONE PARENT CAN "stay home"?

You sure can jump to a conclusion.
I detest unions. I believe in job security and compensation based on merit of the individual.
I also believe that the oversupply of labor, particularly women taking jobs to add to the family''s income, illegal aliens, and the shipping jobs out of the country, are the villains in the dilution of wages.
I don''t think every mother has to go off to work as a necessity to "put food on the table." I know plenty of them that do work, and the children suffer. We all realize that working is an escape for many mothers who are just too lazy to meet the responsibilities of taking care of their child-rearing and domestic duties.
I also realize that some women have no choice but to work and this was also true back in the 50''s. The difference, I believe, is related to the feminist movement which many felt was the okay to abandon family values and commitments, and seek "personal fulfillment and growth."
I propose that more mothers stay at home and take care of their family until the children are in high school. I also propose deporting illegals. I finally propose keeping jobs in the USA, paying the proper wage to US workers. We would then see wages increase and the single earner family would see increased purchasing power.
Most families can survive on one earner. They just don''t want too. It is a manifestation of selfishness and inability to be an adult. - Reply to this comment
- The Army made a big mistake for not providing the troops with inflatable dolls like they did in Vietnam, or provide the brave men with screened local prostitutes that allow them satisfy their sexual needs.
The Army thougt that they can spare that expense and use female US soldiers. - Reply to this comment

So you agree that this nation NEEDS A "FAIR WAGE" and Unions to Protect the EROSION of income for all but the TOP 5 percent that''s been happening?
I''m ALL FOR a return to ONE INCOME FAMILIES that can LIVE decently in a home of their own like during the 50''s and 60''s where a GREAT MAJORITY could do so.
Unfortunately since the push to WIDEN THE WEALTH GAP that''s become an "impossible dream" for 95 percent of this nation. The lower income workers have actually seen a large DECLINE in their REAL INCOME while the SMALL TOP percentage have seen up-wards of a 400 PLUS percent INCREASE of THEIR REAL INCOME.
HOW do YOU propose Changing that back to the MUCH NARROWER GAP that was present in those "glory days" of the 50''s and 60''s so ONE PARENT CAN "stay home"? - Reply to this comment
- It sure must be interesting emotions to be in a war, and the woman you raped the other day has a gun and is supposed to be defending your ***, not shooting at it.
You can pretty much guarantee the recruiters at the highschools and colleges are leaving these stats out. - Reply to this comment
- Well, duh! Do you think that maybe this is one of the reasons why in times past women were not part of military operations? Of course they will be sexually assaulted.....did anyone really NOT know that from all of history?

"the good ole days"? I sure don''t remember them the way you describe. Mothers who stay home and raise the children, provide a nurturing environment and a stable home life, are the cornerstone of successful marriages, child rearing and societal stability. Your comments only reflect your warped perspective and reveal your own disadvantaged home life.
If more traditional family structures existed, the country wouldn''t be in this sad state of affairs. Women who accept the responsibility of family and men who do the same, are unsung heroes. Your barefoot and pregnant comment highlights your unfortunate background. I am sorry about that. - Reply to this comment
- Very few of the sexual assaults that occur are actually reported. This is simple fact. The reason being that the woman is still considered to somehow be at fault or to be betraying her fellow soldier for reporting it.

Partially true. The real problem is that if a woman complains about sexual harassment or, God forbid, rape, they are committing career suicide. In the eyes of the command, any woman who:
a) Allows herself to be raped
b) Can not tough it out, or
c) Whines about tough conditions,
is not ''promotable'' material, thus will not advance far in the military. Tough luck gal, should have picked a better career. Or as they say behind closed doors: If you cannot handle the p en is, stay out of the barracks.
I would be very interested to see the numbers of reports that were done by the short timers versus the career women. No matter the outcome, it is a sad commentary on our military. But it always starts at the top. - Reply to this comment
- To all of you who want a return to mom in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant and dad in a suit heading off to work. That was only on TV, guys.
Dad had his little affairs; got slaps on the back from his buddies for his "sexual prowess"; women were villinized for falling for men''s lies; and *** were left to fend as best they could under the care of those horrible unwed mothers.
And you want a return to those days!!!
Oh ... I almost forgot... guys got a free pass on beating the daylights out of their women and kids, too.
Yeah .... those were the good ole days weren''t they - Reply to this comment

That said ... the only reason the problem is not worse than it is, is that the vast majority of service men are decent, moral men honestly serving their country. However, "the only thing needed for evil to succeed is for good to remain silent" - Reply to this comment
- As both a female vet and a rape survivor, I would just like to give some perspective to this story. In 1998 almost 100,000 civilian rapes were reported in the USA. That''s the rapes that were reported; it''s estimated that most rapes go unreported. American females have between a 1 in 4 chance to 1 in 6 chance of being sexually assualted, depending upon your statistical source, among the general population. I also want to tell you that while in the US Army, I served in JAG and assisted in the prosecution of rape charges. I know all about how rape is treated in the military and believe me it''''s one of the most hated crimes and JAG pursues the criminals to the full extent of Military Justice.
The truth is that rape is no more or less likely to happen to a woman in the military than it is on the streets of the USA. Men throughout the world are waging war on women. You can tell yourself that it won''t happen to your sister or your mother and that you would never committ rape, but you are lying to yourself. As John Lennon said, "Woman is the N*gger of the World." - Reply to this comment
- Why are we so shocked to her this. We have seen videos of GI''s thorwing dogs off of cliffs. Read of their stories of rape and wiping out entire families. The men of WW2 are the greatest heros of all time, but the new army? What nimrod signs up to go fight for some other idiots oil? That is except guys like Palins kid for who it was either army or jail.

- As a female veteran, I understand the war-like mentality of the armed forces, this has been going on for thousands of years and should not be a surprise or even news. It''s the way it is. I survived it, moved on, and don''t condone it, but understand it. And, yes, by the way, gop_will_win, Good Morning!
