Mr. Blinder, 61 years old, a Princeton college graduate with a Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been on the Princeton faculty since 1971. He is known for his work on macroeconomics and a liberal bent captured by the title of a 1987 book, %u201CHard Heads, Soft Hearts: Tough-Minded Economics for a Just Society.%u201D When he talked about trade in the past, Mr. Blinder emphasized its great benefits. His undergraduate economics textbook, first published in 1979, says %u201Cthe facts are not consistent%u201D with the popular notion that %u201Ccheap foreign labor steals jobs from Americans and puts pressure on U.S. businesses to lower wages.%u201D

When Mr. Blinder went to Washington in 1993 to join President Clinton%u2019s Council of Economic Advisers, he became even more convinced of the benefits of free trade. He saw steel, aluminum and farming lobbyists fight for export subsidies or protection from imports, and then passing the costs to consumers. %u201CI came out a much more radical free trader than I went in,%u201D he says.

As a Clinton aide, he helped sell the North American Free Trade Agreement with Mexico and Canada, although he says he disagreed with the administration pitch that it would create jobs in U.S. Economic theory teaches that trade changes the types of jobs in an economy, not the overall number. But he bowed to Mr. Clinton%u2019s political savvy. %u201CIf he had left the salesmanship to me, Nafta would have failed,%u201D he says.

I see McCain is in effect conceeding five states to Obama. According to CNN and ABC news McCain is not buying future time and is going to space his ads.

These states include, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin and New Hampshire.

Sounds to me like McCain is going to have to make his last stand pretty soon.

Maybe at the Little Big Horn -- where another bottom of his class graduate of a military academy also became famous.

McCain''s spokesmen already addressed McCain''s position on job creation when he pointed to his Blackberry. McCain is in favor of creating CANADIAN jobs for AMERICANS.

Two-thirds of Aussies want President Obama: poll
Posted 19 minutes ago

World favourite: Barack Obama greets potential voters (Reuters)
If the rest of the world could take part in the US presidential election, Democratic candidate Barack Obama would win four times more votes than his Republican rival John McCain, a poll shows.

In surveys conducted by the Gallup organisation in 70 countries representing nearly half the world''s population, 30 per cent of people said they would choose Senator Obama as president of the United States against 8 per cent who said they preferred Senator McCain.

In four close US partners in Asia, including Australia, Japan, Singapore and South Korea, residents came out clearly in favour of Senator Obama.

Two-thirds of Japanese and Australian respondents said they preferred Senator Obama to Senator McCain, who only scored about 15 per cent in the two countries.

Please, someone help me. I''''''''''''''''m having another of my frequent bouts of hallucinations, and right now I''''''''''''''''m envisioning having to live under a black President, which as a life-long hater and racist, I simply can''''''''''''''''t abide. If someone could please drive me down the mountain to the Klan rally, the sight of burning crosses and hanging neegroes should bring me back to my senses. Thanks.

"Now that we have had a chance to watch her for some seven weeks, I don''''t believe she''''s ready to be president of the United States, which is the job of the vice president," Powell said. "And so that raised some question in my mind as to the judgment that Senator McCain made."

Hmmm what kind of judgement did Obama have when he waited 7 years after Reverend Wrights comments to declare them hate speeches and finally abandon his church which any person of integrity would have done the day Reverend Wrights comments were made.

Neither candidate is looking out 4 years let alone 10 or 20 years on the economy. The LincVolt car designed Steve Goodwin which uses a 59 Lincoln 19 ft long runs off of fuel cells, biofuels, electric (solar powered) and gets 100 mpg it also has one of the biggest V-8 made from that time period. There are natural/propane/methane gas alternatives as well that when converted from BTU''''s to gallons average $1.03 a gallon nationwide. So who is offering a program that will actually address America''''s energy crisis and create jobs at the same time? None of the candidates above McCain or Obama. Their policies besides some carefully phrased rhetoric are almost identical. So folks stop praying at the altars of your political party and vote every democrat and republican out of office and vote in those who will bring about real change.
