note to jn122736:

not necessarily; (On Republican control of Congress by voting out all incumbents) Obviously that isn''t going to happen in this election, but it should be obvious to anyone not looking to further one party''s agenda that the party system in this country is hopelessly broken. I have my doubts that any partisan has a true concept of what the Constitution is all about, except as it applies to manipulating it to suit a political agenda. We were warned by our Founding Fathers well over 200 years ago about the destructive nature of political parties, and we are seeing those warnings come to fruition in a very dangerous way.

I think you are a little closed minded in your thinking in terms of how it would take an entire term to "learn the ropes". If new members of Congress simply did what they are elected to do there wouldn''t be many "ropes" to learn. Doing what''s best for the nation as a whole is what Congress is for. It doesn''t take an attorney or a rocket scientist to figure these things out. The biggest problem we have in this country is that almost all of the people who would be qualified for Congress and have the economic and foreign policy knowledge to do well have no interest in participating in politics because of the way that campaigns are run. When an opponent has no way to counter great ideas they try to destroy their political adversary personally. It happens on every level down to PTA.

gee thats the whole idea to vote them out so we can start over with ones that don''t have all the Washington age old experience to be corrupt.representatives need to do just that , represent not sell their allegiance to the lobby dollar, but instead represent the people. at least new ones might give us a chance to let some competent people get us out of this mess, our current congress is a total failure, to keep any of them would be the worst thing we could do.

We don''t have much choice as to what the two parties have to offer as president , therefore i will vote independent in as many races as possible and against all incumbents no matter what party they belong to.Yes we want change ..how about someone who will represent the people its quite evident the ones in office don''t.

Perhaps the headline should be read, is renting becoming the only alternative available to many Americans, or in other words, another American necessity?

Unless one has a long-term lease on rented property, there is no way of knowing how much the rent will be or even if the property will still be for rent next month (or year).

This uncertainty can be a problem in any kind of planning for the future.
~~~~~~~~~~
Note to tincup356 and SWIFTCREEK1;
You do realize that if by some weird arrangement EVERY incumbent were voted out of office in November, the republicans would regain control of congress?
Not only that but it would take the newcomers most of their first terms in office just to learn the ropes.
And if you repeatedly vote out all incumbents we would NEVER have a competent government.
Purging congress of corrupt politicians is a great idea but it should be done on an individual basis. If the voters would become involved and vote for or against ANY incumbent based on his/her voting record we could solve the problem in just a few short years.
Be real.
How much do two lawyers Obama and Biden know about economy? Do you know Biden is the most racist in Congress toward Vietnamese refugees in 1975? Do you how many times Biden flip-flop about his stand on Obama?
Sorry that we can not find a real sacrifying leadership in them.
Be careful. Do we want to get into socialist regime? We will head to that direction under Obama-Biden administration.
and....to all of you who want to pin this whole mess on Bush....Personally I think the guy is an idiot, but let''s not forget that the Democrats have controlled Congress for the past two years and that''s the time frame for the wheels completely falling off. Let''s also not forget that it was the democrats in the House that have been in a complete state of willful denial about the problems in Freddie and Fannie. Since 2003 Bush went to Congress on 37 seperate ocassions seeking more regulation of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae only to be rebuffed 37 times.
I think that any thinking Democrat here would be forced to admit that if any Republican were at the heart of this mess that the Democrat controlled Congress would have him roasting on a spit. It would ensure Obama''s election in a landslide, and super majorities in both houses of Congress. The evidence all points the other direction. And before you are all so quick to bash on Wall Street.....Fannie and Freddie were the entities responsible for the Global financial crisis. Everyone else was along for the ride since no one investing in their products knew that Fannie and Freddie were cooking their books.
From this it''s not illogical to conclude that the current global financial mess is the fault of our congress and special interests representing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
lobbying should be made an offense punishable by forfeiture of all assets by both parties involved and long non probated sentences, no matter what the size of the lobby "donation in question-bribe", this would be a sharp deterrents to discourage the practice, and of course termination of employment. also term limits need to be in place to prevent career politicians from continuing old patterns of getting rich in office and not representing the people first who voted them there.
If having to have an education and be rich are a requirement to have a voice in America then the values of this country are in sad shape.time for everyone to step back and look and the motive behind all the evils we face and that is the ugly face of greed....have you looked at yourselves lately? that is the only trickle down effect we as Americans have gotten from the effects of the economy.How can anyone say that one man should not be equal in human rights because of what economics has forced him to be ? remember our local government teach our children and its our responsibility to raise them better , but it all costs money , bottom line.when it comes down to the nitty gritty Congress has miserably failed us, and to trust these same people to continue to set policy for us would be simply insane.please American voters use your votes wisely when voting for congress,incumbents have proven without a doubt , they have not represented the people and never will, at least take one thing from Ross Perot''s idea, "time to take the shovel and clean the barn".
Two things.....first, this is another example of the herd mentality. Houses are dirt cheap, so, let''s go rent....To any thinking person who understands economics this is a patently stupid philosophy. These are all the same people who wait until the stock market is red hot before buying stocks then wonder what happened when they lose money because they bought at the top of the market. It''s also become an unfortunate truth that many people believe that homeownership is a short term investment to be "flipped" for a profit in a hot market. Wrong headed thinking again. Home ownership is a long term investment in the future. During my parents generation the idea was to hold on to the house until death so that the kids would inherit something. Think about how many family farms had been just that for 7 or 8 generations before the children got greedy, thought farming was too hard of work, and sold to a major agribusiness for a quick buck.
Second.....tincup356 is right about firing all of them. get rid of all 537 incumbents between the White House and the Congress and start over. But you have to get rid of the entire Washington Political Culture as well....The lobbying groups, the *** for tat favors etc, the pandering to special interests, it all has to go.
More importantly, we need to get back to the Constitutional roots set down all those years ago to protect us from those who want to change our government to suit personal goals and philosophies.
Many of us wish we had been renting. Then we could move to where we could get a decent job without having to sell the behemoth we bought on the "American Dream".
Selling a house these days is a nightmare.
Young people pay attention, renting is fine!
anyone who is so shallow as to say if you aren''''t educated enough to have perfect grammar , you are not equal as a voter or human being? How does that relate to a persons ability or right to express their opinion?
Don''t know exactly, but it may have something to do with the idea that writing and verbal skills are a measure of intelligence. That may be why most employers want to hire at least a high school graduate.
Maybe, just maybe, those that don''t have the basic education don''t have the knowledge or wisdom to make decisions regarding the direction of our country.
Or to quote one religious leader when asked what he thought of the Lebanese situation, he replied : I thinks what ever two women do in da privacy of der own hom id der own bizness.
How can the people in congress now call themselves leaders, the only thing they have proven to lead is this country into serious problems and debt.to fix any problem requires that broken instruments be replaced, the main instrument in the situation that is broken are the people and the major cause of that was running the country on a broken congress. What else has any one of the incumbents done for America? We rant and rave about golden parachute bonuses, BUT WHO let it happen? And worse than that they already voted our great grand children''s future away giving more money to the same people the didn''t watch in the first place?HELLO....it would be just plain stupidity to put these same people back into office again. time to replace all parts that don''t work for US the people.
Wake up people the economic idea was trickle down, now with greed and power absolute, the flow has become a vacuum of wealth headed to the richest at an alarming rate.What do the greediest want? they want to own everything so it could get to the point that private ownership by citizens could completely disappear. Only the very wealthy could afford rent, and control of the people would even become easier.People we were sold out by congress and no one will admit it.Sad thing is we have the absolute defense with perfect timing to deliver a severe blow to the situation,that the American people could use right now to help solve problems , your vote.Your vote to vote out every single incumbent in office, as they have ALL miserably failed us and to let any of them continue to mis-represent us would be insane,I beg you fellow Americans , put aside your failed straight party ticket votes and do what is right , lest we might not get another chance to be true patriots and save this nation that corruption and greed has a stranglehold on.
