The bill passed the House but was never brought up for a vote in the Senate, largely because of Democratic opposition to change in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regulatory structure that remained in place until the Treasury takeover two weeks ago.
As evidenced by the failure to pass the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, the Democrats in Congress have repeatedly fought back Republican Party efforts to reform the two mortgage banking giants.
Instead, Democrats in Congress have sought to preserve the quasi-governmental status of the mortgage giants, seeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as places to locate former top Democratic Party operatives, where they have earned millions in compensation, despite a continuing series of financial scandals. Enron-like accounting manipulation, for example, boosted earnings to a level at which massive executive bonuses could be paid.
In the aftermath of the U.S. government takeover, attention has focused on three Democrats with close ties to Obama who served as Fannie Mae executives: Franklin Raines, former Clinton administration budget director; James Johnson, former aide to Democratic Vice President Walter Mondale; and Jamie Gorelick, former Clinton administration deputy attorney general.
All three Obama-related executives earned millions in compensation from Fannie Mae. - Reply to this comment

A review of Federal Election Commission records back to 1989 reveals Obama in his three complete years in the Senate is the second largest recipient of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae campaign contributions, behind only Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., the powerful chairman of the Senate banking committee. Dodd was first elected to the Senate in 1980.
In contrast, McCain warned of the coming mortgage crisis as he pressed in 2005 for regulatory reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
"For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac %u2013 known as government-sponsored entities or GSEs %u2013 and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market," McCain said on the floor of the Senate in 2005, speaking in favor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005.
McCain pointed out Fannie Mae''s regulator had stated the company''s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company''s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

Who have Fannie May and Freddie Mac been paying?
From 1989 to 2008 the top four recipients of Fannie May and Freddie Mac cash as campaign contributions were:
1. Dodd, Christopher J
S
D-CT
$133,900
2. Kerry, John
S
D-MA
$111,000
3. Obama, Barack
S
D-IL
$105,849
4. Clinton, Hillary
S
D-NY
$75,550
This looks a trifle dodgy and smacks of corporate welfairism. Wasn''t Obama meant to be whiter than white on campaign contributions? Some questions need to be asked. What were the two mortgage giants hoping for in return? Why did they switch from financing Republicans to Democrats as soon as the Republicans lost its majority in Congress? Why have they given money to the 4 most important Democrats for their business (Dodd chairs the Senate Banking committee)? What were they expecting in return? - Reply to this comment

Who are they kidding?

Joe Biden addressed that issue yesterday. In the morning Biden said that he thought the ad mocking McCain for saying he did not know how to email was wrong and uncalled for. He went on to say that Obama had not seen the ad before he endorsed it.
Later that afternoon Biden said that he had not actually seen the ad himself and that Obama actually had seen the ad before he endorsed it and that there was nothing wrong with it.
What was the topic? Oh yes, "Do candidates lie?" - Reply to this comment

- Obama is now back-tracking on all his promises of free give aways to voters that he made during the primary in order to take votes from Hillary.

- Can anyone name one politician that does not, has not lied?
Can anyone here actually say that they, themselves, can get through an entire day without telling at least one lie? (White lies and social lies count. If you color away that gray, its a lie. If you wear black because it is slimming, that''s a lie.)
BS is part of the human condition. It would be almost unnatural for someone to never lie.
When you lie you are responsible for giving someone a false perspective of reality. Therefore every lie you have been told has altered you concept of reality.
That is why you never know who you or anyone else really is because you make you judgment based on false data.
You are better off assuming that everything you hear is a lie and dealing with it that way. Don''t try to find out what the candidates are lying about, concentrate on finding what they are saying is the truth. It''s much less complicated. - Reply to this comment

I think that all Schools should be Federally fund through tax revenue for what ever their needs maybe bussing, books, computer supplies, arts, extra curriculum, safety undercover cops, buildings and maintenance, teachers and Staff and their access to education materials, new school if need, what ever the need maybe, field trips maybe require a scared straight program for in the summer before the Senior year for time behind bars based on grades the better the grade the less time to spend in a health environment of course. Okay the Federal government receives the money and feed it out to the states based on needs the State and Local governments and parents have the say of what they would like. One place holding the money is better than two especial when they can print it. With follow up reports to the Federal Government the State should already be following up. I just watch a Governor debate today they all have different ideas, this just one state what about all the rest.

Please provide to All Candidates & to ask them if they agree with this and response
Part 1. President Bush mention Minimum Wage and Social Security reform four year ago with a little bit of a increase in the minimum wage not enough and to late to make a different it just not current to the time. Social Security has had a little reform, starting in 2008 for retirees on earning limits if you are 66 you may keep all SS no matter how much you earn but if your under 66 there is a earnings limit to pay back start at $13,560.00 and yes were have received year cost of living increases to little to late.

Part 2. Social Security reform is desperately needed and under my plan of Universal Health Care it would be reformed and a slight increase in withholding tax to make up the different if needed.
A. Why is there earning cap at all? This is a benefit and should be paid as one.
B. Let taxes be paid at the normal rate for under age 66.
C. The exception is for people receive SSD and want to try to work, they should fall in the same category as the Retirees over 66 without the threat of losing their benefit if they work, not know if they can or how long they can, without limits.

Part 3. D. All people receiving SSD, SS should receive a minimum of $2000.00 a month across the board to live on and have a option to have any other benefit included in that but in addition too with full rights to change that at anytime.
E. The working class under age 66 must pay for this to insure their own peace of mind when they become eligible for these benefits or need to count on these benefits.
F. Stand for %u201CF%u201D, It is a disgrace to the Government to deny anyone of these benefit when then need them based on a Disability. I find it a disgrace that there might be a need for a attorney to get what is deserving to that Party in the first place. I think these people who work for the Social Security office should be fired for gross negligence. For knowing that some people will go without to meet their quota. Quota%u2019s should be outlawed no matter what the issue is in penalizing people.

Part 4. G. And anyone with this proposal of getting $2000.00 a month from SS should have free health coverage%u2019s with no-co pay. Why should the person receiving a benefit who is poor because of the amount they are presently receiving have to pay for another benefit for health coverage. Why isn%u2019t that all part of the package.
H. People receiving SSI is totally depending on that individual situation and a Case worker assigned & assessment to receive the same and for what period described. Three months, Six months, Nine months, One year and is there a remedy. Part time service work.
I. If your Social Security is project or is more that $2,000.00 a month you receive the Higher amount.
