No, the "we will build it ourselves" quote doesn''t imply that Alaska was going to forego federal funds allocated for infrastructure; the plain language clearly states that if Alaska wanted the Bridge to Nowhere, it would use state taxpayer funds to build it.

A couple of points:

1. You suggest Palin was "forced" to give up the Bridge to Nowhere. She may have sensed that political momentum was turning against earmarks or she may have fully realized how they were corrupting her state, but no objective reading of the facts supports the claim that she was "forced" to quit the Bridge. Stick to the facts.
2. As I said earlier, Alaska kept the funds from the Bridge and used them for other infrastructure projects. She never said she sent the money back, just that she helped kill a wasteful spending project--read the words slowly. Are you against federal funds for infrastructure projects?
3. She put the jet on eBay, as she said--no claim to have sold it on eBay. Most should applaud even a symbolic gesture of contempt for government waste. Private jets are depreciating assets in most cases; whether the price was fair or low is something I cannot vouch for without data on the private jet market. But disposing of the jet saved thousands of dollars in fuel costs (think Diddy now flying commercial), maintenance and insurance. Ergo, against government waste and saving taxpayer money, which is what she implied in her comments.

I would rather spend 16 billion a year on earmarks, that put Americans to work in America, than 10 billion a month on killing Iraqi children so we can steal their oil.
