CBS Evening News: Democrats Respond To The Attacks Unleashed At The GOP Convention
- Unfortunately, you can''t respond to Republicans with facts or rational thought. In fact, it''s better not to respond to them at all unless you have to in a debate, and then destroy them without any mercy.
In the meantime, talk to the American people instead. The GOP uses fear and anxiety to its advantage, so the Dems should use emotion and real life scenarios to talk to them: people who have lost everything in Katrina and still haven''t recovered, people who have been wiped out by floods or tornadoes, people who have lost their jobs or homes, people who struggle every day just to get by. These are the people in America everyone fears becoming just like, that the same thing could happen to them. And it is happening more and more to average Americans who once had an American dream.
Tax cuts for the wealthy aren''t going to help these people.
Tax credits for health insurance won''t help them.
Start playing mean with the Republicans and start appealing emotionally to Americans, please! - Reply to this comment
- What have you found tangible for the past 4-7 years. Let me enlighten you with something tangible right now: UNEMPLOYMENT RATE HITS 5 YEAR HIGH. IS THAT RHETORIC, OR MAYBE IMAGINATIVE. :-) HA HA
I wouldn''t know about that since I''ve managed to stay employed through it all; once with two jobs. Wasn''t too hard. I guess there''s work out there if someone''s willing to do it. Whining won''t fix it and the government sure won''t. We''ve had a lot of different administrations since the sixties when most of this started and none of them has been much help. Except by staying out of the market and letting it adjust itself. Besides, if you want to blame Bush & Co. for it, remember; he ain''t running. If someone claims that McCain is Bush''s 3rd term, they''re better at reading the future than I am so I''ll not argue it. Let''s face it, the backbone''s been removed from a lot of Americans simply because they''ve become dependent on handouts. Despair and gloom is all the press wants to talk about. If you buy into it then a hard economy looks impossible to weather. If you can see past it to see a challenge and not the end of the world, you can make something out of the worst economy. - Reply to this comment
- I don''t even know how Sen Biden could say he was impressed by that "speech" palin gave. Absolutely no discussion of the issues or how she intends to assist McSame in fixing this republican mess we are in. All she did was stand in from of a teleprompter and throw out insults. Chris Rock could have done that. And he would have been funny at least.

- The poll will do all the speaking. All the many comments people make on the many articles of this website are moot. If you don''t like what you see, vote, and quit crying all over the news stories. Love your neighbor as you love yourself and quit wasting the comment space created for God loving people.

Good grief! What do you think they''ve been trying to get Obama to do for 19 months? I quit listening to him less than two months into this jester parade of a campaign. I found him nauseating watching him duck and weave around just answering questions. Like the old commercial asked, "Where''s the beef?" If he didn''t have so much to hide, he could have provided sensible answers to some very simple, basic questions. People of substance can back up what they say with provable facts. You call them ''false charges''. Seems like it would be easy to refute them were that the case. I don''t know about you, but I want something tangible; not a lot of rhetoric. - Reply to this comment

- How many of the Republican delegates, 93 percent of whom are white, are familiar with community organizers is debatable. More than half have a net worth in excess of $500,000 and may have no need for someone like Julio Medina of New York.
Enough of you Republican tools!!
What? You expect these GOP tools who have been telling us lies for the last 8 years, to go out and give an honorable speech? What planet are you on? The Republican attack system is very simple actually.
Create a grotesquely distorted caricature, broadcast the delusion at the top of your lungs, and hope that you manage to reinforce just enough cynicism and hopelessness to ensure the election of someone who truly cares only for funneling all of the country''s wealth and power into the hands of a tiny, corrupt elite.
The American electorate eats up the drama like a soap opera, but they are too stupid to realize that it''s real. So what do we get? 4100 of our kids dead in a war that should never have been waged, a shaky economy, record deficits....the list goes on.

Or as Leona Helmsley would have said, "Only the little people attend political party conventions." - Reply to this comment
- Those "speeches" at the RNC were cr.ap. I didn''t know if i was watching a political party convention or some kind of a painfully long and unfunny attempt at a stand up comedy routine. They barely even mentioned the issues facing this country that were caused by THEIR leadership (if you can call it that). Of course, who would want to? That would just remind the voters of what an horrendous failure this republican administration has been. It was speaker after speaker getting up there acting like a 3 year old and making fun of community organizers.....yeah I guess they wouldn''t know much about that considering they think if you make 4 million a year you are middle class. He11, Palin admitted she doesn''t even know what the Vice President even does! and she''s trying to be elected as one in 2 months!!
For those who missed it:
No discussion of the issues
Distractions
Lies
War, War, War
I was POW.
That pretty much sums up the RNC.
Republicans hope you''re too stupid or lazy to fact check.
Palins speech and McSame''s speeches in particular were so sprinkled with lies it was hard to find a true statement pass from their lips - Reply to this comment

- agree with JackDems - could not have said it better myself. Palin is awesome and speaks the truth - she had the audience snorting with laughter at the "chosen one!" I actually kind of felt bad for Obama for a few minutes. It would be hard to be made such a fool of by a beautiful, articulate, honest woman!!

Oh? What truth is that? That she can make fun of what Obama choose to do before he became a State Senator? Sparky we lost ANOTHER 85,000 jobs today. The Unemployment rate went up to 6.1%, don''t you think she could have at least IMPLIED that she had a proposal on how to get us out of this mess?? I know you people hate deeply and I don''t know why, but to continue a Policy that HAS NEVER worked when you had one in place 8 years ago that worked EXTEMELY Well.. That isn''t SANE!! Honest! It''s INSANE!! - Reply to this comment
- Which candidate will bring us that much closer to a Marxist Society resembling Cuba?
If you answered Obama you are correct?
What are you going do about it?

SCARE and SMEAR!! Thats all you freaks have left isn''t it. Isn''t it enough to SEE the WORST in OUR History in action and know he got there by that same tired approach! In fact NO PRESIDENT elected like that has EVER been any good! People can''t respect and be loyal to a President who gets there through Smear and Scare! SIEG HEIL McBush - Reply to this comment

Yeah we know! Say can YOU tell us what is different about McCain''s Economic Plan and the POLICY of Bush?? I mean McSame and you folks keep saying he''s not the same and I''ll be hanged if I can find any difference. You don''t think he''d LIE to us do you? Surely not... After Iraq they wouldn''t lie to us now would they?? SIEG HEIL McSame - Reply to this comment
- This man has more class in his little finger than Palin does in here WHOLE Body. ASK anyone in Chicago what it was like when those Steel Mills shut down. THOUSANDS do Workers lost their jobs but it didn''t stop there! It spread like wildfire, ONE small business after another closed their doors throwing even MORE thousands out of work. I personally have SEEN this man sit down with a Couple at their kitchen table and figure out how to get enough money to keep their home and feed themselves. Something that Palin and McCain do NOT know much about but something that SHOULD be very important for a LEADER of this Nation in my Book!! He CARE''S enough to STOP Trickle Down and take us back to the CLINTON Plan... THAT in itself is reason to elect this Bright Young Man!! Obama 08
