Since the McCain campaign believes the public is on a strictly need-to-know basis when it comes to Palin''s background and "qualifications", the media is left to do the digging themselves.

Since when has any public figure running for office been off-limits to public scrutiny? Equal rights means equal responsibilities%u2026 every candidate faces the same scrutiny.

Obviously, those with skeletons in the closet have the most to fear from the process. It sucks that Palin''s family is getting the rake here, but she made the decision to run, and her past seems to be outpacing her.

Don''t know but the AIP advocates Alaskan succession from the US and infiltration of the US government and she appears to have provided recorded comments to their 2008 convention and was the subject of several discussions there according to videos on YouTube. These appear not to be consistent with the McCain campaign release claiming her involvement with the organization ended in the early 1990''s other than casually speaking to a few members.

Given your explanation how was anyone protected by the slow moving if Gov Palin? Assuming the trooper was fired would that have allowed him more time to commit further inappropriate violent acts. Would not a competent Governor concerned with the specific individuals and any others in the state with similar needs have benefited her constituents by :

Getting state and/or local protection to them quickly
Getting support in obtaining restraining orders
Establishing safe Houses
Directing state agencies to provide timely transportation to safe houses
Suppressing the locations of potential victims in safehouses until the danger is contained.
Working with the Legislature to get additional tools, as required?

Then she canceled the project, insulted the voters in the area by referring to their community as nowhere, and preceded to spend the money on other projects. There was no savings to the federal government due to her actions (some reformer). In addition as she could not retask a portion of the money she built the access road for the bridge that now ends at an empty beach on the island.

Your fact checker needs a fact checker. "Here are the facts" you say "the trooper in question made threats against the Governor''s family and was suspended from duty." Palin alleged her brother in law made threats against her family during his split up with Palin''s sister long before she was governor. He was suspended for other reasons and re-instated. Efforts to fire him lasted for years afterward. The respected former Anchorage Police Chief who headed the state troopers resisted such pressure from the Governor, her staff, and her husband. When Gov. Palin fired him, he claimed this was the reason. She denied that was the reason and that pressure was used, then changed her story on the latter point. Abuse of power is a crucial issue given the current VP. If you mention this story, give it full airing.

I started some preliminary research on the Alaskan National Guard and Commander-in-Chief Palin''s use of the guard in emergencies. Mind you I said PRELIMINARY. I found three records of natural disasters possobly during her tenure -- an earthquake that caused no damage, a fire and a flood. The flood dealt with several hundred homes but no mention of the need for the Guard. The fire lasted about a month with a couple of hundred residences destroyed or damaged and again no mention of use of the guard. The guard website itself had no mention of action in Alaska however in fairness it appears to be in its infancy. A guard magazine indicated troops in action under federal authority (Middle East and the Southern Border). Has anyone heard of guard actions in Alaska during Gov Palin''s tenure.
