CBS Evening News: The Pros And Cons Of Sarah Palin As A Running Mate
- 24 hours after the selection of Sarah Palin, I''m still good with this decision. All of you who criticize her for not "staying home" with her children are sexist. Barack Obama has children at home too. Why aren''t you criticizing him for being away from his children so much? All of you who criticize John McCain for selecting her because of her "light" experience should look in the mirror, for you who voted for Obama selected a person even less experienced than Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin''s incredible strength of character will show over the next two months. McCain/Palin have my vote.

- ....all you liberals and the media just loved McCain when he was the "maverick", sticking it to real conservatism. Now he''s still playing the maverick, but this time, sticking it to liberals while thinking outside the box, and the liberals are howling. Priceless.......

- Deciding to give life to a Down4s child is wonderful. But it carries with it an added responsibility. This child needs its mother. Not a nanny, not a grandmother or only a father - Ms. Palin made this decision and she should STAY HOME and take care of this child full-time. Not take on even more outside distractions and duties - Vice President? Insanity. Come on you evangelical Mommies! Get off the pot! What would YOU do with a child like this? Aspire to one of the highest offices of the land? I don4t see her as any sort of a hero. Follow through with the responsibility you have, Mr. Palin, and take care of this child like it deserves to be taken care of. You have a tough enough life ahead of you with the everyday challenges which you will be faced with. Do this - renounce your big-wig jobs - then I will call you a hero. Not by your giving in to the lures of a political ego-trip.

- Wow,
Senator Obama''s great political fortunes return as once again during this election his opponent turns out to be a nincompoop. Senator McCain shows his political prowess is equivalent to that of Allan Keys -remember him, the non-Illinois token minority freak show the Republican Party sent to prevent Obama%u2019s election to the Senate. And now McCain picks a token female to woo disgruntled Clinton supporters, revealing just how stupid and superficial he and other Republicans think those supporters are -somewhere George Carlin is begging to be brought back to life to tell just a few more jokes. Yes, she%u2019s been a governor and mayor of the least-populated state -smaller than most US cities- and a tiny town, -I think they now have a stoplight though -and she%u2019s a moose hunter, a sports reporter and a beauty queen. A lifetime member of the NRA and chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission -Cheney approves. A BS in journalism-communication from Idaho -very prestigious; clearly no other education is required. Fully qualified, you betcha; to ruin Republican chances to keep the Presidency. She makes me yearn for Dan Quayle! Senator Joe Biden vs. Governor Sarah Palin, there%u2019s a wartime VP debate for the century. President-Elect Obama might as well start selecting his Cabinet%u2026Ding-dong, hello Mrs. Bush, I%u2019m Michelle Obama, would you mind if I came in to measure the drapes, thanks. - Reply to this comment
- Ugh. A beauty queen with a bachelor''s in journalism and two years running a state with fewer people than my Midwestern hometown. A pro-life gun-toter with an investigation pending! Did he even run this pick by any of his advisors? Surely somebody told him it was a terrible idea. This Hillary supporter just made up her mind and became a firm Obama supporter.

- The Republican BIG OOPS OF THE DAT
The Republicans AND McCain play the RACE CARD.
Yet another story CBS did not cover.
See http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=5678062
McCain and the Republicans are finally out of the closet. They sell fake dollar bills with Obama''s picture -- their own version of the RACE CARD. While the local Republican Chariman says it has stopped and will not happen again; SHE ALSO SAYS NO ONE WILL BE PUNISHED (in another report). Sounds like Republicans condone the action while also seeking cover to me. - Reply to this comment
- Alaska - population 670,000. Hong Kong - population six and a half million. London - population eight million. HK''s Chief Executive Donald Tsang, and London''s mayor Boris Johnson have both been responsible to more people than this woman. Far right Republicans think disgruntled Democratic women are so dumb they''d vote for Anne Coulter if she was on the Republican ticket, so they have given us Charlton Heston in a dress. Another sign of how out of touch the far right of the Republican party is. It''s sad. Because it would have been to all our benefit for there to be a close race in November. McCain has thrown in his cards.

- Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim
Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now "feel manipulated."
"They now know that they were used as decoys, well after McCain had decided not to pick them," one Republican involved in the process said. - Reply to this comment
- This woman has been the governor of a state with a population of what? 650k? I am in a tier "B" city and our metro area alone has twice that. she has done that for what? under 2 years? McCain is out of his mind. This just proves what have suspected all along. He is losing it quickly. Imagine what he will be like in a year or two.

- McCain just blew his own argument against Obama...not enough experience to lead. Apparently, according to McCain, experience is not important after all. So far, all McCain has proven is that his ticket has less experience than the Dem ticket AND that he lacks sound judgment as well.
This is a knee-jerk reaction selection by McCain and his puppet masters. If he can''t make a sound, measured decision on selecting a running mate, what kind of response can we expect with his finger on the button (for more war, Iran maybe)?
How can any American back the GOP ticket with such a poor choice of candidates? - Reply to this comment
- Are you $hittin'' me McCain? This is a joke right? Thanks moron, you just trashed our run for the WhiteHouse. The Dems are gonna wet themselves laughing at this. Clinton''s hysterical followers aren''t gonna go for an anti-abortion beauty queen if that''s what you were thinking. Could you have possibly picked a LESS qualified candidate?!!! Are you trying to compete with Barry? WHY NOT HUCKABEE OR ROMNEY? This is the last straw McCain! BARR ''08!!! Apparently he''s a REAL CONSERVATIVE, not some flip flopping back stabbing closet liberal who thinks with his little head.

- Neither McCain nor Palin are reformers. (No mainstream politician actually is, including Obama.) She has several formal and informal ethics inquiries ongoing. She has no business in the governor''s office because of her conflict of interest: Her bub is an exec. for BP. (Or alternatively, he should get into a new line of work.) And the Obama campaign did NOT "attack" her, which implies the type of ad hominem nonsense John McCain''s been using against Obama, only disgracing himself. The Obama campaign released public information that the voters in the lower 48 wouldn''t otherwise know. We need to know about the ethics issues for both campaigns. That is NOT attacking, that is campaigning. Oh, and by the way, Katrina made landfall in MS as a CATEGORY FIVE, not a Category Three. She was a FOUR when she hit coastal LA because she went back into the Gulf briefly before making landfall a second time, long enough to pick up more steam. She actually dropped to a Three near New Orleans, which of course was devastated more by the levies failing the night after the storm. It would be nice if you people could make at least an effort at research and journalism, even if it''s just a facade. You are not even trying!

- She is an anti-choice evangelical who wants to teach creationism to our children - which of Hillary''s true supporters is going to be swayed by her? None!!! only the fakes managed by the Rove people. The Palin choice is a desperate move by the McCain handlers- you can be sure that the Rove team made the choice since McCain barely knows her. With her lightweight resume: beauty queen, sport fishing , snowmobile rentals, and 2 years governorship of an idiosyncratic state with a very small population. They haven''t even fully vetted her since she is caught up in a local scandal- WootenGate in Alaska. After all the hot air emitted by the McCain/Rove team about Obama''s lack of experience they look even more hypocritical than ever. This is a ploy that will come back to bite them - only hard-core conservatives will buy into it. Who could want this person, as nice as she may be, to be a heart beat away from the presidency given McCain''s age and health history. This is a gift the Obama/Biden campaign. The neocons self-destruct yet again!!! Thanks John.

- One more thing. "Observative?" Apparently Plato was right to be concerned that "the people" may be too dumb to choose a leader.

- Todd, can you not read? The sentence says that crusty old guys are writing in posing as Hilary supporters; and reference to those crusty old guys ("they") does not constitute a reference Palin, obviously. Take some reading classes bud.
My post "Do not be fooled by crusty old republican white guys, dialing in on their modems, who say they were Hilary supporters and will now vote for the lipstick (Palin) that Karl Rove put on the pig (McCain)! They''''re tryin'''' to pull one over on you. Hilary supporters with brains wanted Hilary because she is intelligent, etc. A beauty pageant contestant with only an undergrad journalism degree (!) from Idaho holds no candle to someone as intelligent and well-educated as Hilary! Again, Karl Rove put lipstick on a pig! End of story." - Reply to this comment
- Crusty old? Have you seen Palin? Obviously not very observative or conservative.

- I think McCain has taken this pick to show just how stupid he thinks the country really is. He did it for his own perverted enjoyment so he can laugh at all you idiots that will vote for him because she''s a woman and good looking. And he want''s to drill in Anwar so bad the oil companies probably have her in their pockets too. This is an oil company pick and McCain''s last hope to get Hillary''s vote. He knows he''s in trouble. This was a desparate move, and a bad one. People don''t want her for President or Vice President, they wanted the Clintons. And what''s going to happen if McCain dies. He''ll be almost 80 before he finishes his first term. How much longer do you think he has? That''s all we need a senile, old man a pretty looking woman that has no idea what she would be doing. LOL :) I think McCain is giving up. He doesn''t want to be president, he wants Barack too. This is a forfeit move.

- Discussing the war on the Glenn Beck show, she stated that "We''re fighting in some sense over energy supplies." I just don''t see why our soldiers should be dying for that reason. If we were in Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction, then fine. If we%u2019re there to root out terrorists, then fine. In fact, as long as we%u2019re fighting to protect American lives, then I can understand her support for the war. But how can she say that the war is about oil and still approve of us having sent thousands of America%u2019s young men and women to die in Iraq? Keeping the price of gasoline down by a few cents isn%u2019t worth a single American soldier%u2019s life. It simply doesn%u2019t make sense to (1) believe that we%u2019re fighting for oil, and (2) still support the war.
For anyone who would like to hear the above quote in context, the interview is available on YouTube and the relevant bit is at exactly the eight-minute mark. - Reply to this comment
