Comments on: Who Really Is Sarah Palin?
CBS Evening News: The Mother Of Five Now Catapulted To The National Stage
- Wow,
Senator Obama''s great political fortunes return as once again during this election his opponent turns out to be a nincompoop. Senator McCain shows his political prowess is equivalent to that of Allan Keys -remember him, the non-Illinois token minority freak show the Republican Party sent to prevent Obama%u2019s election to the Senate. And now McCain picks a token female to woo disgruntled Clinton supporters, revealing just how stupid and superficial he and other Republicans think those supporters are -somewhere George Carlin is begging to be brought back to life to tell just a few more jokes. Yes, she%u2019s been a governor and mayor of the least-populated state -smaller than most US cities- and a tiny town, -I think they now have a stoplight though -and she%u2019s a moose hunter, a sports reporter and a beauty queen. A lifetime member of the NRA and chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission -Cheney approves. A BS in journalism-communication from Idaho -very prestigious; clearly no other education is required. Fully qualified, you betcha; to ruin Republican chances to keep the Presidency. She makes me yearn for Dan Quayle! Senator Joe Biden vs. Governor Sarah Palin, there%u2019s a wartime VP debate for the century. President-Elect Obama might as well start selecting his Cabinet%u2026Ding-dong, hello Mrs. Bush, I%u2019m Michelle Obama, would you mind if I came in to measure the drapes, thanks. - Reply to this comment
- McCainiacs - you get an "A" for blind optimism and an "F" for substance. You%u2019ve been watching Hannity again, who is an idiot, and his audience has proven to be among TV''''s most ignorant. This woman - a governor of a state with a whopping 600K citizens that is floating on oil has - in her barely 2 years in office - had to deal with only one crisis...Getting an honest state employee to fire a state trooper because he happened to be divorcing the Governors sister - now that%u2019s great Republican experience - worthy of Monica Goodling - though at least she had a phony law degree! Do you really think McCain would have picked her if she was a man? All the Republican hypocrisy over affirmative action and McCain passes over many more imminently qualified men and women to pick a NRA-loving pro-life, nobody. That%u2019s judgment we can trust (to ruin our country)!
McCainiacs - your knowledge of history - Zilch. Obama has equivalent experience to Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Theodore Roosevelt, shall I continue? I guess this token, unqualified, uneducated, affirmative-action-for-political-expediency McCain-pick does have Biden and Obama on one bit of experience; they%u2019ve never won a swimsuit competition... - Reply to this comment

- Mrs Palin%u2019s lifelong church affiliation is widely consiered a cult -- even by some fundamentalist Christian groups.
It is highly disciplined group, you must follow 16 rules or you are out.
It is very fundamentalist. Anything other that full immersion baptism is not baptism. Most other Christian faiths are heretic. The bible is inerrant and literal so evolution is fake.
In their services, people "speak in tongues," some faint during siances of a sort, there is the expulsion of demons. Furthermore they believe in an inevitable apocalypse -- one tied into modern Israel.
They also believe all women who had abortions are guilty of murder and should be treated as such. Global warming is not man-made. During the First and Second World Wars they were conscientious objectors, but have changed their tune somewhat now to fit the conservative movement.
Do you want such a "believer" making those 3:00 am decisions? About things that may involve your very life? - Reply to this comment

- The church she belongs to is called a cult by some fundamentalist Christian groups.
It is highly disciplined group, you must follow the 16 rules or you are out. Then anything other that full immersion baptism is not baptism, most other Christian faiths are heretic; the bible is inerrant and literal so evolution is fake. They strongly believe in speaking in tongues, induce trances of a sort, deal in the expulsion of demons, and believe in a coming apocalypse tied into modern Israel.
They also believe all women who had abortions are guilty of murder and should be treated as such. Global warming is not manmade. Etc.
Is this person the one you want to protect your very life by making wise 3:00 am decisions? - Reply to this comment
- McCain''s choice puts POLITICS over COUNTRY. He had a multitude of more qualified people to select (including Republican women like Hutchinson, Rice, Collins, Snowe, etc.), but chose someone just to to "stick it to Obama", look "feminist", and balance his age.
McCain has NO INTEGRITY. His "Country First" slogan is nothing more than that. "Winning First" should be his slogan. It is more accurate.
How sad. This woman has only 19 months experience. Before that she was part-time mayor of a 9000 person town.
She has NO foreign policy experience- she hasn''t even been out of her state to deal with foreign leaders. America''s enemies would eat her alive when McCain dies in office.
Don''t forget- she used her power to try and get an ex-husband of her relative fired from a state job, then fired the State agency Director who would not fire the "ex" as she demanded. She''s under investigation for misusing her power in this case. Quite an accomplishment- corruption before being in office even a year.
This is a weak pick. It looks all shiny on the surface, but once people take a little closer look at her she will be seen as the corrupt empty suit she is. - Reply to this comment
- I just looked at "Politifact" site to read up on Governor Palin and she has more experience in public office than Obama does and she has accomplished more while in public service. As a life-long Democratic woman I am pleased to see her enter the race. Millions of us "Disgruntled Democrate women" are already on board to vote for McCain in protest to our Party and Palin is icing on the cake. This is the most historic moment this year in this election and for all women in our countrys history. Obama must be trembling because he knows Palin is a "Game Changer"! We are just waiting for Obama and Biden to start making their sexist remarks again her. I have already heard people from the Obama camp say things like, "she should be home taking care of her kids", making fun of her shoes she wore during her speech with McCain, etc. This upset me when I was supporting Hillary so when the Obama drones start making their comments about Palin, it will just make me commit to voting for McCain and Palin even more! The Obama Pundits on TV keep saying that the Democratic Party is now "Unified" after the DNC Convention and that Palin entering the race will not make women decide to vote for McCain? Being one of these women and talking with thousands more of us around the country I can tell you that we WANT to see Palin in the Whitehouse as our VP!!

- It''s funny that many who criticize the Palin pick cite her lack of experience; funnier still that some commenting here say that they will cross over now to vote for Obama because of her lack of qualifications or experience. To those of you who are bothered by her experience or you so-called Republicans saying you will now vote for Obama, are you not concerned about Obama''s lack of experience? And to those who say Palin is now a heartbeat away from being president, Obama if elected would be a heartbeat away from a 3a.m. call. Palin has executive experience with accomplishments; Obama has no executive experience and no noteworthy legislative accomplishments. And to those women who say they are insulted that McCain thinks he will get massive support from women because of this pick? McCain did not make this pick with the idea he would get votes from most women. Face it, many Hillary voters are single issue pro abortion voters. But not all of Hillary voters are in that category. Obama/Biden is a liberal ticket and McCain/Palin a conservative one. We now have a clear philosophical choice

- Speaking of the Eating one of your own CLOSED MINDED GOP - here''s an interesting tidbit on how they TREAT one of their own if they DISAGREE with CORPORATE NEOCON WORSHIP: (GO RON PAUL -SO RIGHT about HIS party that the NEO-CONartists that JERK AROUND the REDNECKS and laugh about it to boot HAD to "shun" him)
Paul, a Texas congressman who failed in a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, considers the rally a celebration of traditional Republican values of limited government - and a poke in the eye of the GOP. They don''t plan to crash the Republican party, but to show they and their Campaign for Liberty are not going away.
"No matter how much our message is ignored or ridiculed, as was done in the campaign, no matter how much they did to us, it only energized our grass roots," Paul said.
The rally builds on Paul''s presidential bid, in which he set a record for single-day fundraising on the Web and touched a nerve with some disaffected voters, largely in the Republican Party.
In a few Western states, Paul was a serious contender for votes, placing second ahead of Republican John McCain in Nevada and Montana. He drew 14 percent from McCain in New Mexico, a battleground state.
But Paul has NO speaking role at the GOP convention. He said his staff made overtures to the party, but nothing came of its efforts. - Reply to this comment
- Palin reminds me of the Homeschooling MOMS I got to know.
GREAT people toward the people they APPROVE OF and the MOST RELIGIOUS Churchgoers I can think of. Some of them kept popping out kids into their 50''s despite the risks because it was "God''s Will" and then went on to encouraging their kids to do so as well -starting in their early teens.
The worry I had with them was they saw the world in SUCH a CLOSED MINDED WAY.
They would SMILE politely at you, make idle chit chat and as SOON as your back was turned they were the proverbial Hillbilly Woman at the back fence with "DID YOU HEAR" and "I HAVE NEVER!" over "HOW SINFUL that woman" is concerning EVERYTHING from NOT ATTENDING THEIR CHURCH to TEACHING MY KID EVOLUTION.
I finally found that IF I wanted the FREEDOM that they FALSELY TOUTED I needed to break from their INDOCTRINATION and CONDEMNATION over my having a real not Bob Jones University set of degrees and teach REAL SCIENCE.
At that point they employed all sorts of petty tricks that reminded me of Palin''s "brother-in-law" situation.
Having someone IN POWER CONTROLLING our NATION with such attitudes is what got us into the ECONOMIC, INTERNATIONAL and ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER that''s DESTROYING the U.S.
Do we REALLY need another CLOSED MINDED "DECIDER" Dictator? - Reply to this comment
- Republican Christian Family values???
Can Palin really give her kids the attention they need in their formative years by taking a job as vice-president? at least Chelsea was older when Hilary attempted her run. Republicans are losing me.

- What a lovely and talented lady. It is good to know that it is not all old, rich, white men in the party of RepubliCON artists. She surely is a rising star that will be on the scene for many years.
Right now, I question the self proclaimed ''family values'' party, that believes it is okay to use a woman with a 4 month old special needs infant that is still being breast fed.
It seems they believe the Presidency and Vice Presidency is a part time gig and maybe it is if Karl Rove is still making all the decisions for the country like he did for George Bush.
Selecting her to a position where the utmost criteria is a readiness to step into the roll of the President of the United States of America in a moments notice is reckless on the part of John McCain, who claims to put his country first and tells us that Terrorism is the most severe problem facing American and then selects a token small town mayor with zero national security or foreign policy experience, as a VP for the sole purpose of shoring up votes from the evangelicals and hoping to get a higher percentage of female votes.
That is not putting country first, that once again demonstrates that MCCain is willing to put his lust for power ahead of what would be in the best interest of America. Yes, she is a Governor now, but has had less time to get her on the job experience than John McCain has been running for President. (this time) - Reply to this comment
- Sarah Palin on drugs: Oh wait I can''t find any stance from her on drugs. Looks like she hasn;t been in office long enough to have stated one.

- Palin on crime:
"I support adequate funding for a strong public safety presence in Alaska. Feeling safe in our communities is something we cannot accept any compromise on. This includes policing in all its forms, the court system, prosecutors and corrections."
Wow, what a deep approach. you''re going to fight crime with... policemen? What a novel idea. - Reply to this comment
- Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim
Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now "feel manipulated."
"They now know that they were used as decoys, well after McCain had decided not to pick them," one Republican involved in the process said. - Reply to this comment
- This woman has been the governor of a state with a population of what? 650k? I am in a tier "B" city and our metro area alone has twice that. she has done that for what? under 2 years? McCain is out of his mind. This just proves what have suspected all along. He is losing it quickly. Imagine what he will be like in a year or two.
