As long as no one expects a free ride. This country was built on nothing but immigrants, what is so different now. I going to sound racist here probably, but if the minorities and poor white trash would stop having babies, then maybe there wouldn''t be this influx of minorities and some or lots on welfare. Let the minorities take over the burden of paying for everything. I am not saying all minorities are bad or useless or whatever, but those who want a free ride are just plain irritating.

But it''s true. Whites WOULDN''T do the work illegals do.

It takes an hour for one white guy on a backhoe to do the same job that takes all afternoon for ten Mexicans working with hand tools in the hot sun.

But the Mexicans get the job because after The Boss Man gets the $100 bid from the backhoe guy, he drives out to the parkng lot where the illegals wait for work; he gets out of his truck and says "Who''ll work all afternoon with a pick and shovel for $5?"

He can hire ten illegals to do the same job, and HE PAYS ONLY FIFTY BUCKS instead of a hundred.

It would be illegal for the white guy to work that cheap. So he goes broke, his backhoe gets reposessed, and he has to go looking for another job.

Your question should have been, Why does our government allow business owners to drop wages to minimum wage or less to run off american workers in order to hire illegals. Why would an american work in an effing hot a$$ field all day for $5 an hour or less when he can flip burgers at mcdonalds for $8 an hour?

So don''t insult hard-working americans and suggest we won''t work in a fied or chicken house or construction site.

As far back as I can remember Latinos/Hispanics have always been family oriented and very close and have large families whether they can afford them or not, economics is not a deciding factor about having kids, they have their kids and figure out how to finance them later! Latinos/Hispanics can`t be counted, rarely participate in the U.S. Census and whose numbers are probably double what its though to be!

People from Latin America have more Native American blood running through their veins than all of you yelling to close the borders. Just look at our faces. The first White man that stepped on North American land was from Spain. Go to San Augustine or St Augustine Florida. That settlement arrived 62 years before the English settlers at Plymouth Rock.

You Texans should know, that everything West of the Mississippi was Mexico. And that Mexico allowed the White English settlers in. They wanted more land to farm and for their cattle. The Mexican govt allowed them to go in, but then those White settlers started breaking Mexican laws. The rest is history, do any of you know what really happened? The fact is Spanish speaking people played and continue to play a major role in the history of this Nation. Should we know English, yes. However in Europe, you see signs in 5 languages because of the neighboring countries that speak other languages, its common, there is nothing wrong with that. In the New England states you see signs in French because of Canada. History is cyclical, maybe the natives are taking back America.

I think it''s great. America has always been a melting pot anyway...now, we are starting to see that "melting pot ideal" take shape with the numbers actually behind it. I think that is what makes this country so great...a blend of different peoples, ethic group and ideas. But, it will be interesting to see how the new "minority" population will react to this new reality..as they have never been in the minority before. And also, how people who have traditionally been a minority will now see their "majority" status. I wonder if it will do anything to improve race relations in this country. I guess, we''ll have to wait and see.

Whenever you get population frowths of 15, 17, and 21 percent, of one nationalality, that is not due to legal immigratation. And to people who think that that is a viable and organized growth rate, you are sadly mistaken. The profound effects that we can''t begin to calulate yet, due to this lopsided population change, have no understanding how economics work. The America that we grew up in has been stolen by our government, and by forces that have been pouring into our country unabated.

And to those of you who think these are racists remarks, you have taken the bait and are no longer American. I''m glad that I don''t have to worry about "my" kids growing up in this country. Some won''t be so lucky.

This article is no surprise, I see a larger number of Latin Americans wherever I go (church,restaurants,malls...). I do worry about illegal immigration and don''t want to pay taxes for services of those who didn''t come in legally. For those who are here legally, they seem to want to work for their living. Why is it that poor white and black American''s are insulted to go work in fields and harvest for farmers? It''s a job, it may make you exercise and it''s an honest living. Of course, not all Latin Americans are field workers and many hold degrees and professions that are admirable so I don''t want to appear to catagorize this ethnic group. I am just pointing that they are proud and any kind of work they find, it is done with dignity. We should all feel that way, it is more admirable than govt. hand-out''s for nothing.

I took a course in the early 90s and it pointed out that with the different white and hispanic birth rates, the hispanics would politically "own" the Southwest by the year 2020. So for all of you majority whites (I am one), be prepared for loss of majority status as time goes on and it is way too late to stop the loss of status by stopping immigration.

The lack of middle income producing jobs are forcing young whites into larger cities due to lack of sustainable job opportunities in smaller and mid-sized towns. This flight and brain drain leaves jobs like contracting, landscaping, and service-industry jobs (often done by younger adults in America) left unfilled. Hispanics who are willing to do those vacant jobs and are also attracted to the low cost of living provided by these cities move in. Often the older white left behind are frustrated but don''t blame the lack of manufacturing jobs that would have kept their children in these cities. They, instead, have reactionary resentment at the newcomers. Corporate America laughs because they are successfully imposing a "divide and conquer" scheme on working men and women who blame each other instead of the real culprit--corporate-sponsored policies like NAFTA.
