Chief Says Roadblocks Keep Thugs Out Of Murder-Plagued Area, Some Residents Disagree
- I wonder how they would feel if it happen to them...

The police have these license checks on any given day or road throughout my area. They block the road, quickly view our license and send us on. I have no problem with it because I''m not doing anything wrong and it''s only a minor inconvenience in regards to time. It helps keep the illegals off the road. - Reply to this comment
- Hello America
well just put some flowered colored hats or a black beraye on these cops
and the whole Trinidad section of washington d.c. would be just like its conterpart in Sudan or the real Trinidad.
and the violence would be the same also.
so laws and supreme courts have no meaning here.
just an observation !

- Those two 13 year old kids were not shot by honest citizens who are affected by gun control laws. They were shot by criminals who will kill more until they are stopped. ... reasonable search and seizure involves an individual warrant or reasonable cause.
The citizens in DC have let their town degrade because they don%u2019t have the freedom to stop it. If a thug kicks in the door of a DC home or attacks a DC resident on the street the victim can beg for his or her life. If a thug kicks in my door or attacks my wife he might get a 230 grain hollow point in the chest. If you were going to attack someone, would you rather hear the sound of someone begging or the sound of a .45 auto? .... You can%u2019t have one right. The founding fathers passed the Bill of Rights as a unit, recognizing that we need all our civil liberties to remain free. DC and Chicago have among the toughest gun control laws in the country, and the highest crime rates. Duh. For years it has been said that without the Second Amendment the rest of the Bill of Rights is in jeopardy. DC citizens have allowed their government to circumvent the Second and now have lost the Fourth and Fifth. Which are next? - Reply to this comment
- In life, it feels good to give someone a chance, house, food, etc. Under some circumstances it is the right thing to do. In politics, giving such to people does not give them self respect. And stepping in for the moment to give then stepping back out without providing a path out of the dependency results in the violence we see in these neighborhoods.
Stop treating the symptoms of a failed educational and family system of teaching dependency. It''s not working. Start now and you might fix it and produce a good generation over the next 12 years.
Keep redistributing wealth, dropping standards and propagating/promoting the victim excuse, as has been done these last 30 years, and the problems will propagate through yet another generation. - Reply to this comment
- The poor should have the right to walk the streets in safety as anyone else. If there were 22 murders in Beverly Hills, what do you suppose would happen? Do you think there are roadblocks and a heavy police presence in Beverly Hills? Yes there are. Are the residents so stupid as to sue the police that are trying to protect them? Of course not.
For the poor to live in safety requires a heavy police presence and cooperation from the people living there. Until then, the violence will continue and the lawyers and criminals will profit from the chaos and violence.
Last point, the criminals when caught need to be put away forever! Nearly a million criminals are paroled every year. The police are rearresting the same people over and over again. Parole and early release programs have resulted in a lot of preventable crime and violence on the public. - Reply to this comment
- I just find it humorous that some of these people think it''s a good thing to be questioned by the police every time you travel from the house...
I wonder how they would feel if it happen to them...
Sir, Where are you going? What business do you have being here? Where did you go? Who are you seeing? Can we search your car? Can I see your driver''s license? Registration? Insurance? Your not wearing your seat belt. I would like our K9 to sniff your car.
There are other ways of handling the situation and marshall law is not one of them. - Reply to this comment
- "73% of Americans agree that citizens have the right to be armed and defend themselves. The majority of the Supreme Court agrees. The DC mayor however knows more than the rest of us so he spends millions to fight the Second Amendment. Now it appears he doesn%u2019t like the Fourth Amendment either. Thank God people like that are around to do our thinking for us. If we became a nation run by rule of law and allowed to think for ourselves, who knows what evil might be produced. Democracy might break out and who knows what that could lead to. Posted by jijalagi"
Democracy has broken out in DC and at least one person has exercised their constitutional right to bear arms, and recently shot 2, 13 year olds in the back.
The police have made a reasonable and even generous attempt to curb the violence with road blocks. The 4th amendment allows reasonable searches and seizures, certainly this seems the case in DC. - Reply to this comment
- IF these people were crimnals the 22 killed then weve made progress. If innocent people were killed i would want the police there until i could move out of the area. The people complaining may be engaged in criminal activity and the presence of the police are hindering thier business.usually the guilty holler the loudest and often are caught in the act.

- I have a great idea if the fine people who live in that area don''''t like the check points for their safety I agree with them pull back the road stops and stop all patrols in the area and for the safety of EMS and Fire no responses will be allowed in the area until the residents decide to do something on their own. This will restore the freedom of all who live in the area and felt like they were in a police state. I would rather live in a so called police state rather then live in an area run by gangs and thugs. Posted by tgr533 "
That is how it works in Camden NJ. There are many areas the police fear to visit. - Reply to this comment
- Obama, Bill Cosby and others are finally talking about violence and other social ills of the black community, but is anyone listening? 22 murders. How many people must be murdered before the community says enough is enough? Meanwhile some idiots are suing the police for the roadblocks designed to protect them.

- When a group of people allow the neighborhood in which they live to degrade into a wanton, lawless jungle, they deserve to be treated like animals and get caged up!
Yes, this is like martial law, and yes, the action is legal since Trinidad is basically a war zone.
If the citizenry clean up their act, and police themselves, then perhaps, some day, the DC Police will see fit to restore a few of their constitutional rights.

- I have a better idea. Let%u2019s eliminate the whole Constitution instead of a piece of it at a time. If we%u2019re going to ignore a few little parts of it, why not the whole thing? Instead of a democratic republic we can have an elitist government that doesn%u2019t care what the rest of us think. The Second, Fourth and Fifth Amendments are already circumvented in DC, why not take the rest and get it over with? Who needs rights anyway? The DC mayor and his ilk in Congress know more than 73% of the American people, the majority of the Supreme Court and our founding fathers all put together. Thank God we aren%u2019t allowed to think for ourselves, that could lead to Democracy and the next thing you know people will be protecting themselves from criminals and the crime rate would go down. Can%u2019t have that now can we?

- It''s amusing. All of the children who scream and equate our government with the Nazis just don''t get it. If the Nazis (real fascists, as in Hitlers goons)were running our government they would simply read these comments & the blogs, find out who you are, & one night your front door would be kicked in, you & your family would disappear. Forever. Never to be heard from again. The question would then become "Would you feel bad, in the time you had left, about getting your parents killed just because you have a big mouth & no brains?" If you want to find out what it''s really like living in a facist state go travel the world for awhile. Say Burma, or many of the African Countries, or maybe Iran. Say, what an idea. Let''s combine facisim w/religion.

- Can someone please explain to me why when Republicans get into power crime rate increase to levels that are twice has high as when they are not in power?
The poor get squeezed, worsening their already tough situation. They feel abandoned by their government and society. Consequently, they are more likely to resort to crime and violence to survive. - Reply to this comment
- I''ve always said road blocks are unconstitutional. It borders on harassment.

- Simple solution. Set up a Green Zone. Bomb the area with B-52''s and send troops as they return from Iraq. Within 6 or 7 years, withdraw the troops from there and send them to Jacksonville, Fl.,where we had 3 murders yesterday alone. Meanwhile, perhaps the high gasoline cost will slow us down enough to stay home follow the news and recognize the urgency of awoiding the direction we are going. Count your childred at least 3 times daily to make sure you have them all. If you don''t have time for your children, someone does. The final solution rests with our coming generations. We are lost.

- I don''t want government taking the rights of citizens in the name of protecting us, potential for abuse of power is the escalating downhill slide toward a police state already underway - by design it seems.
What do we do? I believe it starts at the top. Corrupt leaders set the example for the rest. Lets start with prosecuting the criminals in the white house and work our way thru congress. Oh, except the cops don''t patrol the rich. And Americans argue amongst themselves, divided and voiceless, powerless to stop a corrupt bought and paid for national gov.
Then try bringing back jobs to America, instead of passing laws that allow, again by design, nationless, greedy, corporations to hire the poor of the third world at slaver wages and then dump cheap products here. Buying only American-made products and boycotting foreign-made would help, but instead we sacrifice our future for discounts at Wal-Mart.
And of course certain groups of people seem hellbent on sabatoging themselves and those around them, while looking for that proverbial handout, with ready excuses, not personal responsibility. Small wonder many feel the deck stacked, and choose non-conforming behavior. Acceptable behavior is easier when economic situations rise above hopeless.
I personally believe the powers that be are committed to turning America into a 3rd world country. Until we start caring about citizens here instead of wasting money killing foreigners for oil profit, expect more of the same. - Reply to this comment
