I would not be at all surprised to see $10/gallon before the US can correct the disastrous middle-east policy of the neocons and once again elicit cooperation from the oil-producing Arab states.

Unfortunately, our relationships will not matter if a shooting match between Israel and Iran breaks out. The Iranian religious leaders have already pledged to shut down the strait of Hormuz if war breaks out. At that time the U.S. will WISH we produced 75 percent or more of our own oil. $7 gas? How about not enough gas available AT ANY COST?

Secondly, we have a middle-east policy that is an absolute disaster which obviates any real cooperation with us from the oil-producing Arab states.

The U.S. should not have to depend on foreign oil for 60 percent or more of our consuption. We should be able to produce more than 75 percent here on our own shores, but have been prevented by our own congress. Oh, nut people like to point out the amount of oil leases not used. The oil companies have already looked at those leases and found them not suitable or no oil. But they are being prevented from even LOOKING under the east or west coasts by congress.

The answer is simple. Move drilling operations to the Americas. Central and South American Governments are begging for American Oil Companies to purchase off shore leases....

The South American countries have a bad habit of begging our companises to "come on down" and set up shop, only later for them to NATIONALIZE the industry and take away the business profits. Any oil company that does business down there is quadrupling their risk of loosing their investments.

formrusmcsgt: You and your highly intelligent kind just keep on ignoring what the oil companies have to say about whats is causing these high prices. Its your kind of thinking over the years in congress that ignores the facts and has caused this predicament. More of the same will push us over $200/barrel. But I know that is exactly what the tree huggers want. Higher prices = lower consumption = less pollution. You are getting your wish. How does it feel?

There are several factors in play here.

One is the ENRON loophole.

If you don''t know what it is, google it.

If you do know what it is, you know that it took a third of the oil market out from under regulation so speculators could drive up the price of crude artificially....just like DeBeers does with diamonds.

Secondly, we have a middle-east policy that is an absolute disaster which obviates any real cooperation with us from the oil-producing Arab states.

On September 14,2002 Rep. James McDermott at a Capitol Hill Briefing said that politics and oil, not fear that Iraq will use WMD are driving factors behind the presidents call for regime change. McDermott said there was an organized effort to squelch such discussions. "The political operatives in the white house have been very careful to spin it away from oil. Anytime anybody sees a connection they spin it the other way".

In an interview published by the French, dedefensa.org journalist Amy Goodman''s interview with General Wesley Clark. Clark stated he viewed a defense department memo that described how the U.S. was going to take out seven countries in five years...."starting with Iraq, then Syria and Lebanon, then Libya, then Somalia and Sudan, and back to Iran."

Well, your kind was here right before the Iraq invasion bragging about how the invasion was going to lower your gas bill. What happened?

WE were bragging about how the war was going to remove Saddam Hussain. It was the LIBERALS AND DEMOCRATS who were connecting the war with oil!!! Oh, but now you won''t remember, right?

Mcain & Bush want to give Big Oil more Federal land for oil drilling but continue to ignore the facts.

In March of 2008 a Cambridge, MA. oil & Gas consulting firm issued a report to Congress. In that report the Congress was told that the laws of supply & demand no longer apply to oil. Demand is constant with only small fluctuations at any given time. Although world demand will increase their is plenty of supply. BIG OIL currently leases 90 million acres of oil & gas land & offshore sites, 70 million are not in use. It is not in Big Oil''s economic interest to use these 70 million acres as they have enough supply at this time. Big oil does not want to loose profit by increasing supply , after all selling oil products is their business. Additional offshore and Alaskan wilderness leases are not necessary, Big Oil just wants additional control of these areas for future marketing.

The Saudi''s and Big Oil are very happy with the Bush & Cheney energy policy which eliminated Iraqi world oil market manipulation. Saddam kept prices down by selling cheap thus preventing the Saudi''s & Big Oil from getting the prices up. Bush & Cheney opened Pandora''s box & now things will never be the same.

American Consumers want cheap gasoline. The Saudis continue to raise the price for a gallon. The answer is simple. Move drilling operations to the Americas. Central and South American Governments are begging for American Oil Companies to purchase off shore leases. They need revenue to regenerate rain forests throughout the Western Hemisphere. The ground must be replanted after extensive logging by Industry. Natural beauty is a good investment. American Oil Companies will tanker oil quickly and inexpensively. Without the Saudis, the war in the Middle East would end. This is a bargain for America.

curse914,

If you type in "Zeitgeist The Movie" you''ll see a few viewing options. It''s worth the watch when you have the time. I found the religion part a bit boring, but it started to get interesting with the Federal Reserve part (which is as federal as Federal Express).

whatithink here''s some more for you to think about:

More than a year and half before 911 the CIA Special Activities Division was conducting operations in Afghanistan, trying to topple the Taliban regime for the Caspian Sea Oil & Gas Pipelines...........We now call such activities terror.
