This is a half truth. They can get certain benefits for their children if they are born here. However, they themselves are not eligible for anything else.

Illegal aliens with no social security numbers are NOT paying taxes on their incomes, because you have to submit a number (SS# or ITIN) in order to do that.
Illegal aliens do NOT pay into U.S. Social Security, by use of an ITIN.
Most illegal aliens work for cash. Estimates by the L.A. County Supervisors last year were that about 40% of L.A. counties working residents were working for cash, paying NO taxes on their incomes, and the reason was that most were illegal aliens with no SS numbers.
Illegal aliens are NEVER given social security numbers.
If illegal aliens are using any social security number, by which taxes and social security are withheld, then they are using a STOLEN SS#, and that is a FELONY crime, for which the penalty is a $250,000.00 fine and 25 years in federal prison, followed by deportation with a felony record for illegal aliens.
The law states clearly that a criminal cannot profit off of the crime he has committed. Using a stolen social security number is a crime, so why would any illegal alien get any "benefit" from that felony crime?

and To CBS while you are on the topic of health care at the tax payer expense - what about Sen (soon to be Prez) McCain he wants to leave us to the tender mercies of the free market when he cannot even get a health care plan on the so called private market and has to depend on the generosity of strangers - namely the tax payer (gives a whole new spin to socialzed meds huh?)

Ellis Island was a processing point for entering into the US. If a person did not have the papers, they did not get in to be "illegal" they had to have someone sponsor them and then they came in . As for many of us, who can claim Native American blood and can also trace our genetics back to the 1700s or before, what was done and what we do now are 2 different things.

We used to own slaves too--but that was then and this is now and the old ways have to end. The same is true with illegal immigration--the old ways have to end. When we needed the people--that was a different matter, but no one is inclined to share the land or resources when there is not enough for the legal citizens and no one is prone to share anything under a system where those who are struggling hard have to pay for new comers who should not be here at all due to illegal immigration.

The US currently lets in OVER 2 million people per year legally.

There are at LEAST 7 guest worker programs.

Farmers are able to bring in as many workers as they need---as long as they pay them a required minimum wage and their health care benefits (but they would rather hire illegals at slave wages--maximize their profits---and pass on all of the expenses of illegals being here to US citizens).

The problem is that the illegals do not think that they should have to apply and wait in line like the millions of other people throughout the world who are trying to enter our country through the proper, legal process!!!---

We do NOT reward law breakers in our country---and let them jump in front of the line of the millions of people throughout the world who are trying to enter the US the RIGHT way!!!

Excellent post!!! I too do not want people coming here illegally. Yet, those who protest seem to have very little knowledge of the facts of immigration. Immigration used to allow mostly anyone to come in as long as they could find a ship and get here. Then people became upset. "The Irish refuse to assimilate," they claimed. "we are getting all the refuse of Europe," the stammered. Immigration laws began to be passed discriminating against the poor, Jews, Polish, Slavs, Irish, etc. Today it is even worse. Yet, most Americans are descended from settlers who deliberately invaded the lands of other nations without even asking for permission. I call today''s situation karma.
