Amid Economic Slowdown, Record 28 Million In U.S. Expected To Use Program In Coming Year
- drivelphobe,
I don''t need those things. My reward is running a socially responsible business. And, I did fine during the Clinton years. I''ve seen kids that I''ve tutored go on to finish college or trade schools, all the first in their families. That''s more reward than money can buy and definitely better than being around some snobs at a country club. - Reply to this comment
- The facist neo-cons have ruined this country. The stupidity of Bush like other republican''ts before him have gutted America. It is time for the patriots of this country to stand up against the nazi style of government the present failed administration offers.Bush should be tarred and feathered on national tv.Let''s add anyone who supports him to the mix.

Sorry to hear you didn''t feel the impact of the Clinton tax increases. Hope you are doing better now. You didn''t earn enough in the early years of your business to "enjoy" the Clinton set back. Once your business matures and your income grows, your tastes will improve. Perhaps you will join one of those "hilarious" country clubs so you and your family can enjoy the golf, tennis, swimming, parties, fine food, social activities and contacts, travel and the peace and quiet of a Sunday morning breakfast overlooking the golf course. Good luck to you. - Reply to this comment
- mascarponi,
These people are very selfish, so it is beyond them that anyone could think of another''s plight unless they are in the same situation. - Reply to this comment
- drivelphobe,
I''ve owned a small business since 1994. I haven''t felt any of the things that you are mentioning during the Clinton years. I have several employees and I''ve managed to provide livable wages. I don''t care about country club memberships. That''s hilarious! - Reply to this comment

Who the hell cares is Bush gave the rich a tax break? I am middle class and before Bush - No tax credit for children. Before Bush my tax returns = a few hundren dollars, after Bush = A few thousand dollars.
Is none of your business what the rich get? Are you jealous of them? This class envy thing has been tried before... Remember the USSR? Karl Marx, Stalin etc etc.
Democrats appeal tho the angry blue collar worker who is angry that SOMEBODY else is doing better than he or she is. I am sure that some numb skull is going to say the bush tax cuts are offset by high gas and food prices, well NEWS FLASH - You live in a capitalist society! The goverment has no business controlling prices. If you dont like it, protest exxon and con-agra & ADM & other oil companies & food providers.
Just a tid bit for ya. The average democrat senator and most of their congress men are very well to do. Why arent you metal lunch box carrying blue collar folks going off on their a$$es?
Man jealousy is a POWERFUL tool when it comes to democrats = Head for Europe and get the hell out of my country!- Reply to this comment

Bush gave a little back to those who had been "financially raped" by Clinton who took aim at anyone who earned over $250,000. These are your small business owners who hire millions of employees. Clinton took away their country club deductions, cut their deductions for business meals and entertaining, eliminated their dependent deductions and others. He demoralized small business. This resulted in thousands of employees getting laid off or dumped and substantially hurt the dining and associated industries.
I closed my business and let 13 people go after the Clinton pillage. It wasn''t worth the effort any more. I could care less about the price of gas or food and in fact, it makes me giddy to watch the economy deteriorate after the Clinton fiasco.
If the business owners and "rich" aren''t motivated to grow their businesses, invest and spend money, the economy suffers and the labor market dries up.
The wealthy don''t need to tuck away the 1% you reference. The are financially secure and can weather any economic downturn. But if they aren''t encouraged to invest and spend, then the workers can kiss their jobs goodbye.
The biggest problem for the average worker in this country is the invasion of illegals, harvesting our entitlements and compressing the wage base. They have to go and the sooner the better. The average hourly income will double as soon as they are out. - Reply to this comment
- YEAH---and ''ya know what?!
Food stamp need is going to soar in the months ahead!
So whether they like it or not, Congress better get prepared to fund it! It''s a lot more necessary than earmarks like the infamous ''highway to nowhere''! - Reply to this comment
