What you, and all of the "I made it on my own so f##k everybody else" crowd are (conveniently) overlooking is the fact that the economy is today is NOT what it was at the time people borrowed. Good jobs have disappeared overseas, the remaining jobs pay less than before, yet gas costs more, food costs more, medicine costs more, etc. What was once "affordable" no longer is affordable. Plus, there is the MAJOR factor that many of the LENDERS were unscrupulous, making loans to people they KNEW people could not really afford, but telling them that they could afford it.
And here''s another big factor for you id.iots to consider: EVERYTHING is interdependent. Once a certain number of houses are foreclosed, NOBODY will buy them, so not only will you have millions of homeless people, but you will have millions of empty homes, and many banks will collapse because they can''t unload them, and the ripple effects throughout the economy will spell total disaster for everyone!
