Senator Obama has been inaacurately portrayed once again. A column in the New York Times expained why an Illinois sen. might vote "present". It is because he or she feels the bill has value but dpesn''t agree w/ parts of it. there is nothing wrong with it - it is apparently unique to Illinois. In my opinion Sen. Obama is often inaccurately portrayed. I find this disappointing.

Is this more negative politics?

It''s obvious your not a Obama enthusiast, so it is safe to assume you''re one of Senator Clinton''s ''kitchen sink'' campaign.

Three points are important for perspective.

1) out of 4000 votes, Obama voted present for 129, something most everyone does in the Illinois senate -- it is a strategy that signals more work needed on a bill, rather that approving it or killing it.

But more specifically that is 3% of his voting record. You also reference Chris Mooney, a political scientist at the University of Illinois, who says, "It''s not that unusual for this to occur," said. I think it should be made clearer that he was talking about the Illinois system, rather than Obama.

2) Many white people go to Obama''s church. If you had dug further, rather than depending on hearsay (something I suspect a journalist should do) you would have easily found that information.

3) In his two years in the senate, Obama has done more than Hillary has in her 6 years. This information is also very easy to find. Here is someone who was surprised when they themselves ventured into actual digging. Follow the link.

4) Do you have any idea how many Clinton aids are in jail, compared to one of Obama''s old friends on trial (innocent until proven guilty). The Clinton''s have much more than just one aid in trouble with the law (or, shall I say, convicted).
See the link.

5) Finally, on the bill Obama sponsored yet voted present because he saw legal difficulty (as a constitutional lawyer and professor, he saw the Supreme Court could easily strike it down), was not a cop out. Why, you ask? He can''t claim distance or disassociate himself form a bill he sponsored, so his act does him no political favors.

I for one will be happy when the Clinton ''kitchen sink'' campaign stops. However, I am glad we now have the internet, a new age of information, where we can challenge the information given to us by journalist, by contrasting other stories, and making our own judgments as result.

One more thing you have to factor in regarding a McCain Presidency, he is 72. Look at how much the Presidency has aged Georgey Boy, he came into office a young man and will leave (hopefully he will leave) a faded old man. And Gilligan isnt even a 9 to 5 guy. Something everyone who is seriously thinking about McCain should consider.
