Katie!!!! Thank you for bringing this out in a national news format, it is ignored for the most part in spite of the fact that it is an EPIDEMIC - some 100 million people have this disease, many don''t know it because they have no symptoms. I believe I too contracted this from a colonoscopy performed in New Jersey in the early 90''s, but have no way to prove it. I am genotype 1A and had 6 months of treatment that did not bring me to undetectable, in other words, the treatment failed. There is another treatment available and in use in Europe, but the FDA won''t approve it yet for Hep C use in the US, even though it used currently used in the US and is working for those people infected with HIV. We need this 3 med treatment APPROVED ASAP, people die everyday from Hep C, our livers are being destroyed, our lives and the lives of our families are being destroyed, millions of dollars are being spent using a treatment that is only effective 50% of the time, while it has been proven that the 3-med treatment is 90% effective. Please Katie, do more research and continue to bring the issues of this deadly disease out so we can overcome it and so the people that have it: mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and children, can live normal, healthy, productive lives. I am hopeing that "Posted by HEPCinRVA at 07:22 PM : Feb 26, 2008" reads this. In there post they did not know where they got HepC. There is a rare little known Hepatitis C from chemical exposure. Not many people know about it and may be what caused this persons HepC.

I was very happy to read "Hepatitis C Danger In Your MD''s Office".You seldom hear of any report on Hepatitis C. We, the people with Hep C have known for a long time. I have been active in a Hepaitis C support for 9 yrs. I myself am clear. What concerns me is the WebMd articles and their stats on those who sustain and the word " cure" I have personally talked to probably all of the 46 thousand members . I don''t know where they get their stats, but they are not consistant with what I have seen and continue to see. They do not address the 50% of genotype 1''s that do not clear. Some people have to treat 3 or more times. It didn''t mention the ones that have cancer of the liver or those that get cancer after doing the treatment. What I have seen is people relasping and they were not reinfected. I could tell you stories allday about people who relapsed and became disabled after. I do not know where they get these stats and who does them. Long ago because of the permanent sides decided that not all of us would treat. We noticed later that the word " cure" was used a lot.
