Comments on: A Question Of Care: Military Malpractice?
One Marine Served His Country With Care. Was His Cancer Misdiagnosed, Leading To His Death?
- This story makes me feel bd to say I am an American! These young men and women are in the military to protect us and yes many hae falling in the line of duty, but no military person should ever ave to go through what this YOUNG man went though He and his family should be very proud that they brought this story to everyone''s attention and EVERONE needs to contact their goverment officials and let them know how outraged we are over this. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED!! God bless.

- There is a God, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we will all be judged one day. You can hide and cover up all your bad doings from humans but you cant hide it from God!!!

- I am very sorry for this family. May God send his angels around this family in the desperate time of need. May God wrap his arms around this young man.
The people that did this to this wonderful man will be punished. Probably not by our government but by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. They know what they have done and so does God. People can try and cover up their wrong doings but they can''t hide it from God. What a terrible thing to happen to someone. We the people must try to change this. - Reply to this comment
- This story is very sad and upsetting to me but I know exactly what the family is going through. 4 years ago I had my daughter and my doctor did not sew me up right they sent me home with my new baby and I had blood clots coming out that were the size of my fist I called the hopsital back they told me this was normal and to relax well I trusted them but soon I started feeling very weak and could barely lift my tiny daughter up to feed her. So I went to the Er and the doctor there said my doctor didnt stich me up enough and he said I was basically bleeding to death he fixed the problem I was very angry and wanted something to be done but was told there wasnt enough evidence and the doctor wouldnt get in any trouble for that. How and why is it possible for this to happen?? This is our lives we send our loved ones to fight everyday dont they deserve the best care there is? My thoughts and prayers are with the family now they are on the battle field fighting for justice something has to be done.

- I learned about Carmelo''s passing Friday, January 31st. I was watching my grandchildren when the image on tv caught my eye. I could not believe it. I was devastated. May this sweet young man rest in peace. I know what it''s like to watch a loved one die. I, too, just lost my son to ALS aka Lou Gherig''s on 6-03-07. He passed at home, too. He too lost a lot of weight like Carmelo. It broke my heart. I was in tears, and could not sleep. It broke my heart when I learned that both his parents are gone. Sweet angel, may he rest in peace. Shame on our gov''t! How dare they not pay for the funeral. He deserved it. My condolences and prayers to the family. My son was young, too. 38 yrs. Rest in peace, angel.

I''m not concern with whether military people can sue the govt. My concern is for all US citizens to be able to receive compensation from the govt if a jury sees fit to award it.
I don''t give a F*** about higher taxes, fewer services,or profit-making enterprises! That is not the result of lawsuits! That is a result of ineffective, insensitive, immoral Congressional members looking out for themselves!!
Having laws that grant govt agencies immunity from prosecution when they are negligent is NOT RIGHT, PERIOD!!!! - Reply to this comment
- Sadly enough this is no surprise! My husband is in the Marine Corps...their answer for everything is to give them 800 mg of Ibuprofen and send them on their way! It is sad that people like my husband and our friends are sacrificing their lives for our country and this is the thanks that they get. My sympathy and best wishes go out to Sgt. Carmelo Rodriguez''s family. He has done a great thing for our country...and we will be forever grateful! R.I.P.

- I was over the pt. relations dept. in a large multi-disciplinary clinic the last 8 yrs. of my 27 yrs in health care. All of the staff was overworked, including me. It%u2019s just the way life is today and can%u2019t be avoided. When health care professionals make mistakes the result can easily be a death sentence for the patient. When a health care professional gives inappropriate care, he or she should be held accountable. Patients have the right to file suit if care is inappropriate. Military personnel are not granted that right.
Two of my brothers died from lung cancer. Both died as a result of health care professionals not following up on abnormal results. They trusted their doctors and were unaware that they had abnormal x-rays. You would think this kind of tragedy can strike a family once, but it happened twice to my family. Both of my brothers%u2019 families filed medical malpractice suits and won. The majority of the settlement was used to pay medical bills. The Rodriguez and Witt families do not have the right to hold anyone accountable for the oversight that cost them their lives. Military personnel deserve the same rights that we take for granted in our non-military world.
Thank you, CBS, for bringing Carmelo Rodriguez and Dean Witt into our lives. Hopefully, if tragedies like these are exposed, someone, somewhere, will get the wheels rolling to make changes so that others won%u2019t suffer Carmelo''s and Dean%u2019s fate. - Reply to this comment
- As a mother of 3 US Marines, I know for a fact that those service personnel are not treated with the honor they deserve. One of my son''s was involved in a motorcyle accident while still active. After six months of being in pain with his shoulder they refused to give him an MRI to see the extend of the damage. They told him all they would do is send him to therapy. After 3 rounds of that he gave up. So he exited the service with his shoulder messed up. Another one who sought counceling was only given a ridiculously small amount of visit to cover his entire 5 year period of being active. How do you put a limit on the amount of counceling you need after what they put you through. It''s sickening to set and watch how Uncle Sam treats his own!
