- You are so out of touch and reality. You need to udate your files!~ "LOL"
"Some legal experts said the government, theoretically, could impose a total ban on individuals possessing guns even if they have a Second Amendment right to possess them.
That is because a host of state and federal laws barring assault and other types of weapons are routinely upheld in the courts on grounds that the prohibitions are rational governmental approaches to combat violence.
"It''''s conceivable that the federal government can pass a law you can''''t own a gun," said Chuck Michel, an NRA attorney. He said the government could do so and, perhaps, defeat court challenges on grounds that the government "had a compelling interest to ban guns."
"Some court at some point could say, ''''federal government, you are right,''''" Michel said."
Before your right to express your opinion there''''s a more important obligation to learn!~

- It is time for us to take back the word LIBERAL!
It has been hijacked, along with the creation of the myth known as Ronald Reagan.

- Who are these people owning guns in the US? Even the most educated of them, college students and graduates, are not model citizens!~
"Approximately 4% of US college students own guns, and those that do are more likely than others to engage in certain high-risk behaviors, such as binge drinking, new study findings show.
Dr. Matthew Miller of Harvard University in Boston and his colleagues found that gun-owning college students tend to drink higher amounts of alcohol at a time, and when doing so, are more likely than others to have unprotected *** and run-ins with police.
Other high-risk behaviors more commonly noted in gun-owners included driving while drunk and using crack and cocaine."
YIKES!~ "LOL" Now take a look at this from the Department of Justice:
"Almost three-quarters of those who owned only handguns kept them primarily for self-protection. Of course, some people seek the protection of a gun because they may be disproportionately likely to lead risky lives or associate with violent people.[6] Those who had been arrested for nontraffic offenses were more likely to own firearms (37 percent compared to 25 percent in the general population)."
There goes the "law-abiding" fallacy!~
You have a better chance of getting your Democrat Controlled Congress to stop Approving for and Funding the fight in Iraq than taking the guns out of the hands of Law Abiding American Citizens. - Reply to this comment

- Everyone blaming the ARMY. Your children volunteered for the service they are in.
I was in Bosnia and afganistan. I signed up! I wasnt drafted. I was active when went to Bosnia and reserve when in Afganistan, blame your early education of your children, what you have taught them. No person has forced these ADULTS you call children see become government property. I have no regrets, Im not crazy, and have never thought of suicide. what a soft society. - Reply to this comment
- mrmazerati,
Agree. Another sign that this is not a clear and present threat is the lack of those in upper classes to sign up and fight and the lack of people willing to increase their taxes to fund the effort. WWII, and Germany/Japan declaring war on the US, is a good example of a need to go to war. In fact, it was the last time those in the upper classes (can we say Bush going to Vietnam) actually fought in a war in large numbers and it was the last time the upper classes were willing to pay for it by increasing their taxes. - Reply to this comment
- Pay attention to the last sentence. It says the result is "consistent with other recent studies"!~ That means that many studies have concluded gun owners are uncapable of learning about gun safety!~

- Um yeah, so anyway, getting back to the NEWS STORY, according to the timeline, this makes the highest suicide rate since Vietnam. Which was another asymmetrical war, fought in the middle of two indigenous factions. Coincidence? Don''t think so. Point being that in the absence of a clear and present threat to our security (which certainly describes Iraq), morale will inevitably drop. If what you''re doing seems pointless and endless, your entire life is going to seem that way, too. Without a clear goal or a clear case for defense, this thing will unravel just like Vietnam, and our soldiers with it. That''s the real legacy of Bush''s murky and bizarre presidency.

- More Ameicans are killed with guns every two months (5,000) here in the US than all the soldiers killed in the Iraq War with all the weapons and methods available!~ We lose more Americans to gun violence here in the US every two years (60,000) than all the soldiers killed during the ENTIRE Vietnam War. As a matter of fact, more Americans have been killed with guns since 1979 than all the soldiers killed in ALL US WARS COMBINED including the Civil War!~
"More Americans were killed with guns in the 18-year period between 1979 and 1997 (651,697), than were killed in battle in all wars since 1775 (650,858)."

Ridiculous. We''ve just gone through a subprime debacle (partially because people didn''t read, know how to read documents) and you can still make such ridiculous statements. Even if you do more blue collar work, you still often need and education and there are still skills at a MINIMUM that all citizens should know...like personal finance. We''re pushing kids through school who can''t read and somehow providing at least the basic needs are TWO MUCH for you.
Funny the passion about education comes in the form of not giving it to everyone. - Reply to this comment
- "Violent gun crime and weapons offenses continue to be significant law enforcement problems throughout the nation, and the Department of Justice remains invested in pursuing violent offenders and reclaiming
communities from the scourge of gun crime. The more guns in one area the more crimes. That is the typical scenario across the US even in rural areas with homicides increasing nationwide."

- "If people had the same passion about education as they have about owning a gun, we''''''''d not only need fewer guns, we''''''''d also have the most productive/constructive society to ever exist."
And I suppose all of those "educated" people would sit around and do important, white-collar kind of stuff, and be "important businessmen and leaders" and that kind of stuff. And who exactly would pick the apples off the trees so we could eat? Who would drive the trucks? Who would put new roofing shingles on the houses of these endless droves of management?
The problem with america right now is not too little education, its TOO MUCH EDUCATION. Dummy. All you fancy education didn''t teach you to think did it. Educated "white-collar" workers are a drain on our society, expensive and useless for the most part. All they do is manage, remanage, fire and hire the same people, merge companies, remerge the companies because THERE ARE TOO MANY WHITE COLLAR WORKERS AND THEY HAVE NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO DO.
We now must import people to do the real work from other countries illegally, because our kids are all "educated" which means they can''t work and have no work ethic and no common sense and expect to sit arounsd all their life "thinking smart thoughts".
But they are not smart, they are idiots, and all the "EDUCATION" in the world can''t make lazy, dumb, descendants of manual laborers into Einsteins. They just become unable to do the manual labor anymore. - Reply to this comment
