I think globalization should be making clear in an exaggerated way the problems of large centers of power ruling over remote regions. Local communities are destroyed by those in power who are un-empathetic to the regional community needs because those in power do not live with the local consequences but non-the-less profit in the way of wall street remotely.

Corporations need to be stripped of their human rights because they are human creations, not actual human beings. Corporations should serve humanity in the way they served the oligarchies they were first devised to serve. Humans should not be serving corporations anymore than they should be serving government. All human institutions should work for humanity and not for a handful of socipaths whose only vision is protecting their wealth and power. Read history folks, the right wing corporate libertarian fascists dismissed its importance from education for a reason.

Republicans are creepy scum. Dems are just sort of silly. I''ll take silly over slimy. Republicans aren''t even a human life form -- always the mean-spirited and tricky pervy manuevers on their part. Look closely at them, they''re like clowns -- you can see the grossness under the poorly applied makeup -- their painted-on smiles aren''t fooling any but the feeble-minded, and the like-minded are already in their parade. Republicans get a tingle you-know-where whenever they do something rotten and bad. God will smite them!!! But we can help!

I don''t agree with the idea that the Republicans are the problem, any more than I agree that the Democrats are the problem.

Both groups seem to advocate a one party system (i.e., theirs). A one-party system run by the Democrats would be just as bad as a one-party system run by the Republicans.

The elimination of the Electoral College is not the answer. This approach would effectively transfer all political power to the large states, and the voters of the small states would simply be subject peoples.

A partial solution may be to split California, Florida, Illinois, new York, and Texas into smaller states.

As to splitting the electoral votes from California, it has both positive and negative aspects, but does not solve the underlying problem.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the real threat to our country, the immediate threat to the very core of what our country is and has been since the foundation, is not from some outside terrorist bogeyman, but from the Republican party and their "base". These people are out to destroy America while hiding behind uber-patriotic slogans and bumper stickers.

If you are a REAL American patriot, you will do whatever is necessary to defeat the GOP and their supporters.

Let the people vote, if they want to break it up into 20 pieces, let them do it. Government and the parties work for us, not the other way around.
Remember that people!

If you are proposing a rigged system then you are supporting destroying a system of representation for as many americans as possible.

"When Corporations Rule the World" David C. Korten

A must read for anyone concerned about their children''s and grandchildren''s future. It''s understood sociopaths don''t care about this as Bush said "who cares, in 50 years none of us will be around".

I agree that it should be done by percentages not by district. Doing *winner take all* district by district doesn''t fix the problem it multiplies it.

The United States has become a board game of monopoly and soon the game will be over and all will lose since reality is not like returning the play money, the dice, the board etc. to the box and having dinner.

Big money is feeling threatened. The kings of the old world didn''t not concern themselves with the will of the majority nor does the republican and libertarian ideologues. A sociopathic group of elite may fly the american flag high but they are quite at odds with the founding principles of america. The republicans and the corporate libertarians were of the breed that proposed what became the White House be called the "President''s Palace"

More proof that the Republicans will wreck our democracy to gain absolute power.

I agree with much of what you said but how do we eliminate the corruption that the republican party and it''s multinational corporate pimps have imposed on this nation and others? The will of many has been subjugated by a global elite class and the ignorant are being played through their prejudices.

Let''s retroactively apply the idea that ALL states should proportionally assign their electors to the disputed 2000 presidential election.

Welcome to the White House, President Gore!

If the electoral college has become an instrument to subjugate the will of the the people it must be eliminated and any corrupt regime opposed to eliminating it should have its members advocating such identified and hanged for the the treason they have committed against the people of the United States. After-all,such types have been in favor of the death penalty. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

This is yet another attempt to destroy the idea that America is a federal union of sovereign States wherein the people of California decide among themselves who CALIFORNIA desires to head the Union.

The popular election of Senators should be reversed as well. The legislators of the various States should select the Senators who represent their States.

Restraining the expansion of the federal Leviathan is critical if we are not to be in continual battle against the imposition of federal police state rule in America.

I would concur that the Electoral College is due a revision. When it was created it could take a month or more of travel to get the election results to Washington DC.

I believe that by splitting the votes based on percentage of votes in each state - and then allowing the electors to vote for whom they feel is the best US presidential candidate would be a tremendous improvement of the system.

The reason I would still retain the elector system is based on the fact - and the advantages - that stem from the "republic" nature of the US government. In a "republic" people elect representatives to make decisions versus just the popular vote. I concede that the system is not perfect; but I believe it to be better than a pure democracy as people often directly respond to news and stories that may not be true. Representatives tend to have better access to all the facts on many issues.

When the voters don''t like your political views and you can''t win elections, what do you do? It''s simple. You change the rules.

Why would anyone have an issue with splitting the Electoral College vote? Whatever percentage of popular vote earned by the candidate should equate to the same percentage of Electoral Votes. It should not by districts, that could/would lead to corruption, but a straight popular vote with percentages would be the fair way.

Because you can bet if a Republican is proposing it everyone will get screwed royally. Like they did in Texas from all the redistricting the Republican''s did. They are somehow going to get a clear advantage out of it or they wouldn''t be proposing it. That''s just the way their sick little minds work.

The obvious solution is to abolish the electoral college system entirely. It was originally designed to rush the election results to the nations capital, as quickly as possible - usually by pony express. We''re many times more technologically advanced than that now, and the electoral college system has been exploited several times before (to our detriment). It''s time to eliminate this outdated form of "election control".

The lamest thing about the Republican party is that they want to impose their own ideas on the rest of the population with laws. They use the term "values". While I agree with them that abortion is a poor and immoral choice, what right do I have to tell someone else what is right or wrong? The second lamest thing is that they are bigots, almost every last one of them.
