I got a better alternative. It''s called a giant empty oil tanker, and a deserted island in the Aleutians. Fill it up with 10,000 homeless, boat them up to the island, and "release them" into the beautiful wilderness. Give each 1 fishing pole, a spear, a Swiss army knife, and a small tent. Them repeat the trip 500 times. Boom, boom, boom, problem solved. All homeless people, GONE. Gone, gone, gone! Ahhhh, one can only dream...a magical world without obnoxious beggars, broken beer and wine bottle litter, without urine all over the sidewalks, and our taxes go down......what a nice dream.

"YOU HAVE TO PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR PLACE! JUST HOW DO THEY PAY THE HIGH RENT AND EAT ON A MINIMUM WAGE JOB!"

They don''t. They work hard and thus rise up out of minimum wage BEFORE they start spewing out children whom they cannot afford to feed. I HAVE put myself in their place. The difference, is I didn''t stay there, and neither should they.

Instead of handing out money to the "Have Nots", we should instead direct it towards the "Can Nots". It is the failure to understand this distinction which has led us here.

Not sure how this turned into a anti religion post. There are good Christians that help others without expecting anything in return. Just as there are others of different faiths that help others and those of no professed faith that help others. The issues here are multi fold, one bringing the proper help to those who are willing and seperating them from those that are not willing.

What a wonderful idea. Most folks that find themselves homeless for whatever reason just need to catch a small break. To have someone believe in them and help them help themselves. It is a terrible thing to be stuck in that hole, seems everyone else just wants to kick you back in and bury it over. Without a helping hand it is darned near impossible to climb out. I know, been there myself.

Now that I am on the other end of the stick, so to speak, I would like to get something like this started in my area.

Former White House press secretary Scott McClellan blames President Bush and Vice President *** Cheney for efforts to mislead the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity of a CIA operative.

In an excerpt from his forthcoming book, McClellan recounts the 2003 news conference in which he told reporters that aides Karl Rove and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby were "not involved" in the leak involving operative Valerie Plame.

"There was one problem. It was not true," McClellan writes, according to a brief excerpt released Tuesday. "I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest-ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president''''s chief of staff and the president himself."

Mr. Bush''''s chief of staff at the time was Andrew Card.

ITS SO FUNNY, EVERYDAY WE HAVE MORE AND MORE OF THEM COMMING FORWORD TO SAY THE TRUTH..

AND OUR TRUSTED CONGRESS STILL DOES NOTHING TO GET THESE SCUM BAGS OUT..

WHAT WILL IT TAKE AMERICA, PLEASE SOMEONE TELL US AMERICANS..

sparks224, I think this is fantastic, and logical... Of course there will be some where it doesn''t work but it gives those who want to succeed something to aim for..
You also said. Everyone knows taxpayer giveaways should only go to the idle rich (no-bid contracts etc.).
Well, I watched my parents work their guts out to get money behind them for their retirement, they worked a couple of jobs a day paying far more taxes then those who had only one job, and here in Australia they also payed more tax than a one job person because they were now on a higher tax bracket...
Yep, take from those who work stinken hard and give to those who are too lazy to be bothered to do more for themselves..
Punish those who work to get ahead eh..Not all who have money fall into getting it, most have worked hard to get there as I am now doing..
I don''t want to end up depending on the government but because I work hard, I will be punished and have to pay more taxes to give to those who are too lazy and don''t want to work much. And I don''t mind for those who are genuine..
I wish people would stop being bitter about those who choose to work hard to become rich.. just get out there and do the same. It is only a few years ago that I didn''t even have a table and chairs, or a lounge suite.. so stop grumbling and do something about it.

I think that if you cause crime, you need to stay in a crime area. I do not cause crime, I stay away from crime, and I do not want crime to come to my back yard.

I say this without malice, "If you don''t fight crime where it ''is'', you will have to fight it where you ''is''

Liberals like beecuster scream for tolerance and diversity for all religions, except Christianity, which they use to bash in order to prove their Liberal credentials to each other.

beecuster - Let me guess. You have never swung a hammer once for Habitat for Humanity, an organization founded by persons of Christian faith who dont use tax payer money.

adasher1 - Thats the great hypocrisy of Liberals. They all scream for a solution to homeless, but they can never agree where to build the homeless shelters even if they get the tax funding approved. Then the big dispute become Not In My Back Yard, because that would lower my property values. The only fair solution is to require 10% of new developments to be allocated to below market rate, and then all neighborhoods are impacted.

Since most of the homeless have mental disorders of some kind, how do these agencies think bills and mortgages will be paid? They don''t take their medication; if they did then they would be able to hold down jobs and be competent citizens. If they can''t hold down jobs, then they can''t pay their bills, and they will be back to square one - on the street. So well-meaning as these ideas seem to be, who is going to be responsible for making sure they take their medication and in the proper dose?
