Successful Program Gives People Housing First, Social Services Second
- Your politics.. is telling people to be virtuous, at your command. At the end of your schtick.. They don''t have to follow yer ******* religion.. uh-uh. They just gotta know that I believe in a god that says I can carry this ******* schtick.
And you can''t stand people. I got no ******* idea why you guys think you''re meant to be politicians. Every time somebody goes to you for a problem, you turn them away. Is that what a governments supposed to be? Really? - Reply to this comment

- Neo-conservatism is not Christian. it is secular in all aspects which is why I laugh at the term.
In fact Christianity is not Christ like any more. - Reply to this comment
- Here it is the day after Thanksgiving and more people are posting hatred than thanks on a story that deserves more insight into the reasons behind the individuals situations than lumping them together.

- Neo-conservatism and Christianity are not just irreconcilable, they are OBVIOUSLY irreconcilable.

- It''''s OK with me as long as none of the money went to poor people. That would really make me mad!

- "Radiob, you''''re a stereotypical change-the-subject liberal for even bringing up the war."

Speaking of the war; I really don''t mind the fact that hundreds of billions of dollars have been lost, stolen or given away on bogus "contracts" (Basically the Federal Treasury has been looted).

- And liberal would probably be the last description one would give of me. More a moderate than anything else.

- Cities which do the housing first have made a decision, they should pay for it. Cities which give out a lot of benefits to homeless people attract them. The homeless people who have mental problems need to be given the help they need by all of society; the rest need to do what everyone else does get a job.

- Radiob, you''''re a stereotypical change-the-subject liberal for even bringing up the war. Go to numerous other stories if you want to discuss Iraq, this one has nothing to do with it. But then, you''''re likley one of the "mentally incapable" you feel so sorry for, so it''''s a safe bet you''''re beyond following any good advice.

Now lets see I did not blame this on Iraq, politicians, religion or race as others and if you had read more than the one post a reply to your cold hearted post you would see that I distinguish between those who are willing to help themselves and those who are not willing. - Reply to this comment
- Oh pleeez, your made up dwarf story is so full of holes! Firstly, if there was such a person, he would have all kinds of government checks coming in because he would have been deemed unable to work. secondly, any job he got would have earned him just that much extra in his pocket. Using the ''dwarf" as an example fo one pulling himself up with his bootstraps without arms, while funny, haha, does not apply to those who wont have an extra helping hand. Some paople, if given just one chance and one good thing, can take it and make so much more of it. Besides we all know that this sort of "handout" as some of you are calling this, are ok as long as white, "respectable'' folks are on the dole for their millions. Otherwise we hear the same old, lines like ''kick em off welfare, make em stop having babies, Blah blah. When the real story could be that a vet back from vietnam, was unable to believe his eyes over there and had a hard time getting over it, turned to drugs or drink and was homeless and lost. Dont judge so quickly. If you want to get mad, get mad about your tax dollars being spent to study the *** habits of dust mites or some other such bull!

- The rules of the liberal game state that all blacks, no matter how privileged, are victims, all whites are racist oppressors who just don%u2019t %u201Cget it,%u201D all black cultural dysfunction is a consequence of white racism, and only whites who loudly and repeatedly acknowledge their guilt can redeem themselves by distributing social, economic, and political reparations. The major players of this game are the Democrats and racial hustlers like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Cornel West. But even some Republicans these days have accepted the rigged rules. Just look at how easily the whole Katrina disaster, a consequence of an entrenched, inept black city government, was laid at the feet of the Bush administration.
But there is a more insidious consequence of this racial narrative %u2014 the institutionalizing of black inferiority and dependence. Behind the guilt of white liberals lurks a smug assertion of power: we who have the power to oppress also have the power to redress. As the African proverb has it, the hand that gives is always above the hand that receives. To be a victim is to be inferior, always to be looking up at one%u2019s oppressor and one%u2019s deliverer. - Reply to this comment

- Gaye5,
Nobody resents people who become rich through their own efforts (or even those who inherit wealth for that matter). That''''s just another neo-con talking point.
The working people in this country saw a small reduction in their Federal income taxes under the neo-cons. But then everything else went up, local taxes, gasoline, healthcare, college tuition, etc. There has been a HUGE transfer of wealth from the middle class to the top 1% of income earners.
Bush voters have been fooled and tricked out of their money. - Reply to this comment

- All homeless people, GONE. Gone, gone, gone! Ahhhh, one can only dream...a magical world without obnoxious beggars, broken beer and wine bottle litter, without urine all over the sidewalks, and our taxes go down......what a nice dream.

I am willing to bet that all of the homeless in America do not cost the citizens of America as much as the Iraq war has in the same time period. A war that was unneccessary. Mind you I object to helping those who are unwilling to help themselves but those that are willing or are mentally incapable should be helped regardless of cost. - Reply to this comment
- Let''s see this post has gone from blaming political parties to religion and now race. Funny how few have addressed how the homeless became homeless. Drug addiction/ alcoholism unemployment, mental illness does not distinguish between political parties, faiths or race.
