- This is a program I can support.
HOWEVER, due to human nature, people have always taken the path of least resistance, then do as little as possible while on that path.
This may work for a whole minute, but the reality is that the goal is to
1. provide housing
2. provide holistic counseling, (mind, body, spirit)
3. Put them on a path to employment (resume building, skills assessment, job training, and application)
4. Hook them up with public transportation (bus tickets, train tickets, whatever...)
5. Get employed
6. Buy a car
7. Take over making the rental or housing payments on the house or apartment.
8. Self-sufficiency
If self-sufficiency is not the goal, you will have created a dependance on the government for the person, and there will be no motivation to do better. I believe that providing housing and counseling is a good start, but the end is self-sufficiency AND independance, whereby the person is no longer in need of such programs. - Reply to this comment
