- Walter Cronkite must be very ashamed and distressed that Ms. Katie "Special Forces Guys are Hot" is now sitting in the seat he sat in during the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space programs. It''s very disgusting to see CBS now poking at relatively minor details in the space program budget (and yes, a few million is details) while ignoring $billions of dollars that have been embezzled and the thousands of lives distroyed in the Iraq criminal enterprise.
But, priorities are priorities to the corporate war profiteer overlords. - Reply to this comment
- I hate to tell you guys this, but at one time NASA was even worse than the mob in its gangster bully tactics.

- THIS IS A B/S STORY AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT. THERE IS NOTHING DIFFERENT FROM THESE EVENTS THAN ALL THE TAXPAYER PAYED BANQUETS CONGRESS THROWS FOR ITSELF YEAR-ROUND. CBS AND THIS REPORTER DEFINITELY HAVE A PERSONAL GRIPE AGAINST EITHER NASA OR SOMEONE WHO WORKS THERE. THAT''S THE REAL STORY.

- I wonder why NASA is at focus here? The Congress and Senate both do this too! Why isn''t there articles about this? Look at Bushit and his Abuse of Air Force One - flying to Texas almost every weekend - He''''s had more then 1 year vacation time in the 7 years in office! That alone is over $400,000.00 that''''s Four Hundred Thousand almost half a million dollars! This President has been paid almost Half a Million dollars to be on Vacation! Then, what about Cheney? How much is being spent on him for his vacation time - That he keeps Secret for national security reasons. Excuse Me? National Security Reasons?
Like the time Cheney was buying a house next to Rumsfeld when Katrina hit. He was on vacation - and stayed on vacation.
So give me a break - go investigate the Real Crooks!
Leave NASA alone - at least they are one of the most promising of all governmental agencies in existence - they give us hope of exploration - instead of the constant rectal exams this administration gives to us! - Reply to this comment

- Having worked for both private industry and for gov''t I must comment on this narrow minded reporting. Industry spends enormous sums on "treating" managers and employees, and then claims the expenses AGAINST the taxpayer as a business expense. Maybe Sharyl Attkisson should sum up the cost of that to the taxpayer!

- I worked quite a few years for a company in North Hollywood, California that made aircraft fittings for NASA. The pay was about $1.50 more than minimum wage. (Minimum for women) I''m sure the owners will be enjoying themsleves at this party.

- How about a compromise. Each "honoree" must offer a full personal accounting on the web (say - YouTube, MySpace and NASA related sites) about their achievement and explain in plain English the net benefit to taxpayers. Then we get our own review and the employer of every honoree who fails to make the grade doesn''t get invited back till they "make good".
Many of us were big NASA fans as kids, but it seems that it''s been nothing but downhill since the invention of velcro. Better yet, scrap these junkets and offer better X-Prizes. - Reply to this comment
