This country has been involved with mercenaries sinc its founding. Try LaFayette, Steuben,Pilsudski, Kosciusko. We even sent one of our own abroad. John Paul Jones. this sounds like more of the S--T that was dished out about American involvment in Lao During the Vietnam conflict.

"BTW did all those papers that were missing from Vince Fosters office ever turn up?????"

Yeah, I think they were in the stall next to Larry Craig. Or were they in Mark Foley''s pedophile emails?

"they are guilty of doing what they were paid to do?"

Uhh...xavierbrown...I doubt they get paid to go nuts shooting randomly into a marketplace and killing innocent civilians.

Idiot.

Strange huh... the U.S. has been in plenty of wars but never had to resort to hiring mercenaries, systematic torture, tax cuts, dramatically reduced access by the media to the war and it''s dead or even launching a pre-emptive war based on lies without the support of the international community. All proud firsts courtesy of the Bush/Cheney regime.

If we didn''t have wars these people would have to live on their pensions, how sad.

What would we do without all the ''right wing nut cases'' always twisting the truth so their buddies can screw the American taxpayer some more????? But, cheer up these unpatriotic people are going to have to live in this country when the pendulum swings back the other way. Eventually it will. People are sick of being raped by the ''Robber Baron Republican''s''!

Just another witch hunt by Waxman. Blackwater is the new whipping boy of the democrats since the surge is working and Rumsfeld is gone. They have to pick on something and they were the easiest target. I think Waxman and his buddies should spend about 15 months in Iraq and get a real feel for it there. Its real easy to pass judgment when your sitting behind a safe and cozy desk stateside. As for Mr Princes donations to the Republican party, I''m glad he has the money to do that. Its better than getting the money from the Red Chinese like the Clinton''s and their buddies....BTW did all those papers that were missing from Vince Fosters office ever turn up?????

On a more serious note, I do wish somebody would publish just how much money has been spent on "private contractors" and compare that to what it would have cost to expand the military sufficiently to cover Rumsfeld''s strategic boners.

You know, like "$Y/$X", where $Y = the cost in contractors, and $X = the cost in full time, trust-worthy military personnel.

crcvghn said, "These guys are seals, force
marines...not a bunch of cowboys..."

They are not SEALs or Marines once they join Blackwater. Likewise, they should be judged by their record, not the sentimental and faux patriotic appeals of Blackwater''s wealthy CEO, profiteering at taxpayer expense.

And while that CEO made out like a bandit, at least 122 of his employees did act as trigger-happy cowboys, requiring disciplinary action.

I am sure the Polish ambassador sends his regards from Poland or a safe bunker in Iraq, but we already have heard from the people of Iraq on this matter, haven''t we?

crcvgn:

Don''t be a fool. You are saying that the USA military is not capable of finding and training a select group of servicemen to guard diplomats??

Do you realize how idiotic you sound, regurgitating FOX "News" soundbites and spin?

We need to STOP FUNDING TERRORISTS. There is no reason that our tax dollars should go to $1,200 a day to pay for Blackwater Civilian-Killers. They have been roaming around and shooting up civilians since the Invasion began. They are unaccountable to anyone - effectively they have a license to kill and they know it and they use it.

STOP this NeoCon Nightmare. VOTE OUT the spineless sleazy complicit Democrats who whine then rubber stamp the Bush madness.

JAIL Cheney and Bush, the murderous thugs.

Oh yes it does!! There are many, many gang members in the military and they don''t give up their gang affiliation just because they are in the military.

The U.S. military, especially the Army, has been VERY desparate for recruits during the past four years. In fact, the gang members are using their "valuable" combat training to run their gangs when they get out of the military.

what does this say about the US military, which costs us some $500 billion a year, if the politicians themselves can''''t even trust our soldiers to protect them. Is the US Army a joke?

I thought the same until I realized that the "galloglass" or "mercenary warrior" is NOT subject to the same military law and ROE as military soldiers. This "war" has been raging for over four years and only recently have any Blackwater people been accused of killing civilians. You have to believe that they didn''t "just now" start killing civilians.

On the other hand, how many military personnel have been charged with killing civilians?

I think you get the picture. The "galloglass" only answers to the person he is charged with protecting. Until now he has been immune from any laws and ROE. And I''d be willing to bet that nothing changes...

Considering who the CinC is, the U.S. military is doing the very best job they could possibly do under the circumstances.

Fact: Sailors are being trained to fight alongside soldiers and Marines in Iraq. What does that say about our ability to take on Iran?

The article is way too long.

All it needed to say is:

Blackwater boss Erik Prince was a White House intern during the Presidency of the first George Bush, and since he founded Blackwater a decade ago, he''s donated $217,000 to Republicans - Since 2003 (start of the war), U.S. taxpayers have paid Blackwater more than $1 billion in protection money - most of it to guard diplomats, ambassadors, and dignitaries in Iraq.

Simple huh? Any questions?
