Comments on: Is Iraq A Terrorist "University?"
Exclusive: Intelligence Details Training Grounds For Jihadist Fighters, And How They Are Branching Out
- "Retired Army Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey, who in 2003 was among the first to call public attention to the relatively small size of the U.S. invasion force, said that the new operation shows how outnumbered U.S. troops remain. "Why would we think that a temporary presence of 30,000 additional combat troops in a giant city would change the dynamics of a bitter civil war?" he said in an interview yesterday. "It's a fool's errand."
An officer working in Arrowhead Ripper, the subsidiary offensive in Diyala province, said wearily, "We just do not have the forces in country right now to have the appropriate level of presence across the country."
Many counterinsurgency experts agree. Andrew F. Krepinevich Jr., the director of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, a national security think tank, said flatly that Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, does not have enough troops. "I suspect General Petraeus is taking a risk here, but that's what commanders do," he said."

- Just remember who put this president and the GOP in power. The Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, James Dobson and conservative christians/religious right made this mess. In a couple of years, when the country is bankrupt, military spent, environment destroyed and next generation of children scientifically illiterate, you know who to thank...

- markster6,,,, It's not about the "Freedoms" either,, that was pure bogus rhetoric & they don't "Hate us for our Democracy, or our Freedoms"

- markster6,, More than a long shot friend, an impossibility from the get go -- a democracy cannot exist without both a liberal & conservative base.... They've always been perfectly happy with Islamic Law. ---
Like I've been saying,, It ain't about the democracy & never was. - Reply to this comment
- "Smirk,
The invasion of Iraq was a monumental blunder. No one doubt Sadaam was an evil man capable of mass murder, but he was contained by sanctions and no-fly zones. You have no argument with me on that. How to extricate the forces is another question."

How to restore The Constitution of the United States of America, to the United States of America, is an even more important question.

"And so, just as Hitler and Stalin before them, Bush and his henchmen recruited brutal sociopaths to torture and murder, accounting only to their personal will. Lending them, wholeheartedly and enthusiastically, all necessary moral and legal blessing.
I have always been curious, and wondered, who the the American people thought were torturing and murdering in our name."

- I'd like to think when the US leaves, the current Iraqi gov't will flourish. I wish the Iraqis would fight for a future of democracy and freedom. History in the region makes this future appear a longshot.

- markster6,,, For that you have to look at the real Bush & what he's doing with everyone's attention elsewhere --- Selling our national assets as fast as he can sneek it by Congress.
As a young governor of Texas he waisted no time cheating small farmers & ranchers out of thier property for his big corporate & developer friends... Created the biggest drop out rate Texas has ever seen in high schools... Major supporter of ENRON.... I could go on all day on this too --- Bush simply has no qualifications for the job of President. - Reply to this comment
- markster6,, You got that last post right,, "The invasion of Iraq was a monumental blunder" - And it increased terrorism,,, Again our "Decider" was wrong.....
How can anyone assume he is even close to right on Isreal & Palestine or the root cause of the problem ??? - Reply to this comment
- The withdrawal will be messy. I read an Alter piece where he advised to give the process a good name like "Strike and Pull". That's where we hit suspected targets while slowly moving our military out of there. Otherwise, the constant "Dems are surrendering" chorus we'll here from the right might take hold with some voters.

- j-whitman,
Regarding whether Bush is capable in the fight against terror. I think he initially did well in garnering world support in combating the Taliban. He went downhill from there in creating unity in the world to fight terrorism. - Reply to this comment

- markster6 -- You got me off topic,, but let's talk terrorism & what isn't being done.... I could go on forever about the neglect in the states here, but that's another topic.
Let's look at North Africa, the Sudan, because we've ignored the problems for so many years & did little but give rhetorical support, Chad has become another Darfur..
. We use the Ethiopian military to chase international terrorist while allowing thier army to terrorize thier own people.
. Do you really think Bush is capable of any fight in the war on terror ?????? - Reply to this comment
- markster6,
Are you for or against the "create more enemies" strategy that Bush is currently operating in Iraq?
If so, can you tell us why creating more enemies for America is a positive outcome? - Reply to this comment
