Comments on: FDA approval of ancient remedy sends price soaring

- An epic tale of how our freedoms disappear quietly. Who gave the FDA the power to grant a monopoly to one drug company? This stinks of some political payback and should be investigated 110 per cent, and somebody should do "time".
Human needs such as food, shelter, and health care should not be the tools of "greedy" corporations to control the population. - Reply to this comment

- "Well, for me, unapproved drugs present current risks," what hooey! You have plenty of "approved" drugs whose manufacturers don't necessarily follow safety guidelines but the drugs are out there anyway. Only 169 deaths in 40 years? Must be some sort of record. Sorry, no, I don't care how much money the pharmaceutical company allegedly spent on "research" - they did not originate the drug itself and it should not suddenly cost that much. This sort of old/new drug application should have a new price limited to no more than 15-20% above the original cost. That or patients should be allowed to import from another country.

- all very interesting but the article failst to name who is ultimately responsible at the fda? how does that individual, or individuals, get the job and for long do they have the job? who oversees the fda? is it a congressional committee or is it obama? where the outrage, if any, of u.s. citizens be directed to in this current legal drug issue? would think lapook would have provided focus for the nation's outrage, if any, rather than just referring to the fda.

- Based on the FDA's performance lately; wether they approve a drug or not doesn't seem to have much effect on it's efficacy or safety either.
We currently have the listeria outbreak, thousands of pounds of re-called contaminated turkey, and just about every 10 days something else is being pulled.
Everytime another drug company pulls a stunt like this, the national debt goes up another couple BILLION dollars.
This is the third time I've heard about a drug company BRIBING the FDA to allow them to be the sole manufacturer of a previously available medication in the past six weeks.
The greed of the drug companies knows no limits.
The FDA should be criminally charged for accepting these bribes and further contributing to the suffering of those who are ill.
These drug companies (there were three of them) all offered financial assistance to those who could not pay for the prescription.
This proves two things.
Before they even put the drug on the market; they knew most people could not afford to pay for it, but they would be able to collect large portions of the dollar amount from insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid.
Every time they do this they are contributing to the crises in Medicare and Medicaid.
A corrupt, bought and paid for Congress turns a blind eye to these rip-offs, but they continue to whine about the cost of these programs!!!, and screaming they need to be cut to save the US from utter destruction.
The pharmeceutical companies need to be regulated.
Bush 2 decided we could no longer order medications from Canada; where the costs for these drugs is much lower.
The pay off is; many of these drugs are made in the USA and shipped to Canada where they are sold at reasonable prices. but you have to take out a loan to buy the same drugs here.
Americans are being ripped-off at every turn; by every government agency from the FDA to the DOD.
Congress could not care less about this outright theft from every taxpayer in the US.
They know up front they are going to be taken care of for the rest of their lives by those idiot taxpayers who let them get away with being able to collect their salaries for the rest of their lives wether they are still working in Congress or not.
Same goes for their health care.
We need to teach Congress; that just because they have that title in front of their name; they are no more special than anybody else.!
AND; we need to start NOW.!! - Reply to this comment
- Microsoft took out a copyright on the word "Windows" Every time I refer to my windows I now look over my shoulder for a law suit. The government is for the corporation, once by the people and of the people. Incorporate and you too can become an unaccountable deregulated felon.
