- Washington is spending too much money on the elections. All to elect people who do not have a clue what to do. No one has ever run a business or understands anything except how to spend tax dollars with no responsibility or consequences to them. The system really is broken and I do not think anyone can change the tide. Washington is tied up in the glamor of money and politics as well as the power it brings.
If anything done inside the "beltway" is ever good for the working people of the US or the economy it would be a fluke! - Reply to this comment
- So "tickle-down" theory only works when people aren't scared.
There's a revelation! Just watch how and when any schoolkid shares his Fritos—or doesn't.
And then remember that it's media's job to keep us scared so we turn to them for solutions—their editorial wisdom, the financial solutions of their advertisers, the temporary feel-good uppers of movies, new cars, and sports (where they sell us yet more "solutions")—and even the magic pills they have convinced are worth the deadly side effects. If only we could feel better after exposing ourselves to the news that both depressed us and sold us a solution.
Let's ask media! They must know. - Reply to this comment
- I have three Starbuck cups in my kitchen purchased at my local Starbucks coffee shop and all three have "made in China" on the bottom of them!

- Great thinker this guy. Maybe he should sell Starbucks coffee in China and send the money back here. That's basically what the Chinese do, in reverse. They can sell us microwaves and computers, and we'll sell them coffee.

- inmom63 - FINALLY someone says truthfully what we've all known forever!! We simply must start producing things in this country again. Manufacturing is where the bulk of jobs are....and if you don't believe that, you've got your head in the sand!!
Absolutely correct. While needed the service industry brings in no new revenue into the USA, it just redistributes it. Manufacturing however produces proucts that when sold overseas returns new revenue to this country. - Reply to this comment
- "Starbucks CEO: "Crisis of leadership" in DC"
Blatantly false. This statement implies that there is some leadership in Washington which there clearly isn't. - Reply to this comment
- Mr. Schultz, you spent $130K last quarter lobbying congress, $180K the quarter prior, what's your point?
Mr. Schultz, lowering your tax rate will not point more dimes in my pocket to create demand for others goods and services, now will it?
If we lower high income earners tax rates, Peyton Manning, Koby, Suh, Jeter, Verlander, Rush...do you really think they will hire more people? If we raise their income tax rate do you think they will fire their landscaper?
I think we should double the dividend tax rate for all corporations that owe no federal tax... We should double the dividend tax rate for all corporations that refuse to offer affordable health care to all their employees. Home Depot offers affordable health insurance to part time employees, they all can... I think we should change the Earned Income Tax Credit to an Earned Income Tax Exemption... - Reply to this comment
- Captains of Industry my @SS.
Pirates of Greed.
Sit down and count your money j@ck@ss.
You'd offshore your entire company if you could figure out a way of getting away with it. We only exist to buy your coffee, defend your life in case of war and pay all the taxes.

- I find it interesting that a coporate ceo selling 2 dollar a cup coffee is concerned about working people and the financial crises. It is my understanding that Starbucks, a service industry, does pay a decent wage with benefits but does not compare to manufacturing wages. The decline in manufacturing jobs was precipated by his fellow ceo's seeking to maximize profits at the expense of the American worker. Our elected officials in Washington did not cause that but have done little to change it, recognizing there are somewhat limited options in a global economy. I would prefer that CBS interview individuals who truly understand our financial crises both the cause and options to correct and can explain it in detail. These would be people with expertise not just titles which may mean business success only. As a small business owner I have struggled for the past 3 years to keep people employed with benefits. We need information and corrective actions not rhetoric. Lots of people have opinions but few have the facts on which they base those opinions. CBS is better than this as a news reporting organization. A little more news would be helpful.
