- Jerry Lewis is the icon who made the MDA telethon. Will never be the same without him. Shame on MDA for disrespecting the individual who gave it his all, for the benefit of (his kids)!!! I too have given up my labor day weekend to faithfully watch the telethon with Jerry & listen to (You will never walk Alone) & that he would be there till the cure is found!! Thanks Jerry for all you have done & to your family who also had to sacrifice your abscence for this worthy cause. The kids will always be (Jerry's kids)!!!!!!!

- Jerry Lewis WAS the telethon. I grew up watching it. My children grew up watching it and raising money for the local fishbowls. This would have been my 6yr old grand daughters first year to collect for the fishbowl,,,,IF there had been a local fishbowl. I watched for about 45min and quickly lost interest. I still made my donation but it sure wasnt with the same feelings that I have had for the last 40years.
Shame on whoever made this decision. - Reply to this comment
- I want to thank MDA for giving me back my Labor Day.In fact, thanks for letting me pass Fill The Boot firefighters without guilt, enjoy the pool with my family instead of going to local fund raisers, and saying no to the 7-11 clerk. Thanks for letting me go to sleep at a reasonable hour on Labor Day Eve and not having to wait dinner until well sundown on that day. Thanks fofr taking the joy out of the holiday and saving me a few hundred bucks in the offing.
It took one poorly run, slip shod, half hearted, unprofessional telethon to undo 46 years of work. I hope you have more compassion for the innocents who will suffer as funding diminishes than you did for the man who raised over $2 billion. - Reply to this comment
- This is just soooo very sad - To do this to a wonderful person, a wonderful entertainer, a man who gave so much to the MDA, it makes you want to cry. Even after I've donated money to the telethon, at the end when Mr. Lewis sang "you'll never walk alone" I would always call back and donate a little bit more ... This is just so mean

- I watched about a half hour. It was uneventful and not worth my time.
Jerry was the entire telethon and without him it can never be the same.
Oh, I still gave a donation since it is about the kids, but with todays economy wasn't able to give more.
Sorry MDA, but you made a terrible mistake and I believe will suffer for it in the future. - Reply to this comment
- I didn't watch this year, for the first time. And I didn't donate this year, for the first time. The way in which MDA simply threw Lewis under the bus without so much as a small tribute for all he's done was absolutely appalling. I'll find other ways to help Jerry's Kids that doesn't involve rewarding such rude, heartless corporate behavior.

- I know that the telethon has helped with the medical expenses of those affllicted, but from a research perspective there doesn't appear to be anything close to a cure or even arresting or slowing the progression of the disease. They've been at it for 45 years and have collected $2.5B. This is not a criticism of those working tirelessly toward making a difference whether manning the phones or donning a lab coat. Just a depressing annecdote.

- No matter what the issue ....somethings you just dont do......and dis associating Jerry Lewis from the telethon is one of those things.MDA reports they have earned about 60 million and it was their best since 2008 without Jerry Lewis... they forget he got them to 58 million over the 45 years he did the show.
