$12 an hour? college kids are always looking for summer jobs, you can get some people in there to do it, they just have to know you're hiring, they don't pay that much at the theme parks and you have to deal with rude people all day long, at least in the fields are a bit of peace and quiet

When your prices for everything go thru the roof .... thank the GOP and the rednecks. When food sources move to Mexico and other countries , thank the GOP and the rednecks. When the legal Mexican Americans rise up and vote against the GOP dont cry ..... look back at how you talk about them, how you treat them and then realize you are the minority! We have spent trillions in Europe, the Middle East and far east .... all the while we promoted the exploitation, decay and corruption of Central and South America. The GOP is very afraid of the Mexican Americans .... they are starting to vote and the GOP are trying to run them out ROFLMAO .... dumb as dirt rednecks!

I am so sick of people saying that without the Illegal not picking up the harvest everything is going to hell. That is not true. There are many American who are willing to work for $12.00 an hours because we all know that is just a temporary jobs.

Another moron who can't even read:

"There's a lot of what appear to be good berries," Paulk said. "If we had the workers."

What a ridiculous farmer. Very out of touch and if he loses his farm, its his own fault.

I picked berries each summer between the ages of 8 and 14. It was good money, and I bought my school clothes with it. I think if the farmers went after kids, like they did in my day, they would find the workers they need.
---
I started picking with the braceros in CA when I was 8.

Try to get a kid to earn a buck today.....they are way too spoiled for that.

I am sure you find thousands of U.S. citizens that would work for $12.00 an hour. Many highly skilled people are not earning $12.00 per hour. Lets all stop buying berries from this area.

I worked in manufacturing for years and alot of jobs like machinist and welder were taken by illegal aliens. These were jobs Americans wanted. At one company they would hire four or five illegals and tell us they were just to debur parts and within a week they would tell us to train the in welding and fabrication. The real motive was to replace us with cheaper workers. Farmers are the biggest whiners in the world, they make plenty of money and always plead poverty. They just want to sell the crops at American prices and pay Mexican wages.

There are many American who are willing to work for $12.00 an hours because we all know that is just a temporary jobs. In addition, why not use some prisoner to pick the harvest. It save a lot of money on farmer and the vegetable will be cheaper to sell. So, having stated all these I believe that we need to ship all the illegal out of here and let American do the work. Although prisoner are criminal they are legally American and not illegal criminal that come from another country. Illegal immigrants must be apprehend and haul them all out of this country.

I know your right I'm in Arizona ,Not having the $$$ to ride a bus or fly I would be there next week even if I had to put my thumb out to work, if I could get hired over the phone or by email. 12.00 is 1700.00 plus a month in pay. I'm a Veteran and have been out of work for 2 PLUS years. Get with the times farmers. I saw in Michigan on the news 6 months at a dairy farm pays 36,000 a year. This Farmer only hires Mexicans and for years hires from some small village in Mexico. So wake up that $$$ goes out of the country, less helpfully to our economy. I don't know any a American that wouldn't work 6 months for 36,000 a year. I'm outrage if there is a framer out there that sees this post and wants to hire me. Or someone that wants to give me a ride or pay my fare on a bus, or fly, RAY GEORGIA OR BUST!!! e-mail me @ g.havens@hotmail.com

Something all of the posts seem to have over looked is the fact that not even people on probation who had work release would do these jobs. Put them back in Jail then. Work or lock them up. The fact is most Americans are lazy. Most people that have never been in southern Georgia during the summers have no idea of what the heat and humidity are like. 95' temps with 85% humidity. But the fact is working has become an elitist entitlement. If you're a teacher, you can't work at McDonalds if you lose your job. If you're a Manager at Macy's and lose your job you're not going to pick berries in the heat. People are spoiled. Most kids don't work these days because parents think it looks bad on them as parents for their kids to have to work. While the parents pay $100 a month just for the kids cell phone bill. Very few kids in high school work these days. I couldn't wait to get my first job so I had my own money. Now parents just hand money to kids like crazy and there is no need or desire for them to work by the kids or the parents. This never ending limit of unemployment needs to stop. If people have to pick berries to pay their rent, pick berries or live in your van by the river. The farmers were not prepared for the exodus of workers, that's their fault. But face it, most Americans would never go spend an entire day in the hot, humid sun for ANY amount of money. Americans, and I am one, will not do it anymore. Up until about the 80's Americans still ran and operated most farms. It's only been in the past 30 years that we've become too lazy to feed ourselves.
