I don't know what the rules are in your state, but no one in my state gets a bonus for taking a child out of a home or severing the parental rights of that parent. At this time we've all gone through 4 pay cuts, forced days without pay, and no cost of living increases for 7 years. I make about 5 dollars over what I would need to receive food stamps in my state. I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience with the department of social services in your state, but you have to realise it's not that way in all states. I don't blanket judge every person who receives food stamps. I look at every case individually. So I also think it's wrong for you to look at the entire profession of social workers and say they're all worthless and currupt. I know some people who I work with should be raised to saint level for the amount of good they've done for the children in our area. I've watched those children grow up to be well adjusted adults who've gone to college and made a great lives for themselves and their children. So before you make a sweeping it all away comment like that, try to get past your negative experience a little and look at other places where it's not like that. - Reply to this comment

And because social workers have said "Screw the Rules" we have even bigger and more costly problems today. we need to stop all thois madness and re-evaulate what really is in the best interest of the "Victims" of our counties social services and possiblity remove much of the power that has been abused by the county level agencies. Maybe have Social, Civic and Faternal Organizatuions such as Catholic Charities, VFW, Eagles, Moose Lodge, and all the others be contracted to provide the direct support such as AFDC, WIC, and General Assistance and even be the faciliator to pay the social services under state and federal supervision. While the only services the the county level services are providing in the licensing of the foster homes and the prosicution of the abuse, neglect and abandomnet cases. The only time anyone should be faced with the idea such as sterilzation or even termination of parental right is after an honest and properly investigated criminal case. To think the counties today through the adminstrative court process can abandon not only the State and federal Laws but the US Constitution simply because through collaberation they can create a 51% quram that itself is an a crime against all the citizens of this country and these actions must stop. How many people are aware of the UN tready that declares the child as a property of the government and that our childern through the UN can sue their parents in Geneva for violating their rights to public schooling, freedom from relgion (since private and home school as well as making your kid go to church is considered teaching intolerance) or any other time the child disagrees with their parents. We need a Constitutional Ammendment just to protect the basic fundimental of the American Parent. So far the US is the only country that has not sign this treaty. Nazi Germany would be proud since this was the tools of Hitler to gain control and create WWII. Since most states Standard of care for Social Workers and Mental Health Workers require that the worker never has sex with their clients , those standards say nothing about false collaberations against a client, falsifing documents or even to openly purger in a court of law in order to exploit a client. Worst yet these same lack of professional guideline prevents another worker to challenge a worker or report a worker that has desided that they can break the law and do what they want against a client. This lack of standard of care requires the workers must work together even if one has desided the only way to do the job is to break the law.

Ok, you obviously have never had any experience with the system in my state. There are tons of regulations within the child protective services part of our local department of social services which prevent CPS from wrongfuly prosecuting any client, exploiting any client, workers purgering themselves, falsifying documentation, or any of the things you suggested happens. If anything, the rules and regulations almost make it impossible to do the job sometimes. Tell me how the rules favor the system more than the clients when a mother who gets high and leaves her 2 month old outside in the snow and the child dies, does no jail time? You would think that one woulda been a slam dunk huh? The entire system is screwed up because it gives too much power to the clients and not enough power to the local agency, and if you had done any real research into any local agency you would learn that instead of reading headlines and guessing from stories you've probably heard only from the "client's" point of view. So, as I've said in the past, when you've walked a day in my shoes, worked with the people I've worked with, then you get to comment on it. When you are forced to watch your tax dollars go to a parent who just keeps having children, never takes care of them, sells their food stamps for drugs, and only maintaines their home to the bare minimal standards so they don't get their money tickets taken away from them, and the system fail to do anything about it because the neglect is not "severe enough", which means no one has DIED yet......then we'll see how you guys feel. Sure lets throw someone in my position and my boss's position who just turns a blind eye and gives out all the resources to anyone who asks, and when it's YOUR turn and you've gone through something horrible and find yourself in need of assistance but...oh no, there's none there, because all of these other people who didn't really need it, took advantage of the system and got it all.....how would you feel then? - Reply to this comment
- sky1 opined: "What is even MORE disgusting though is these SAME people and the SAME states are the ones NOW telling women they can NOT obtain an Abortion." ........... For that you can thank the Vatican and it's American minions and it's useful [often Prot] idiots. Sorry the lady got sterilized,... but since I had nothing to do with her being sterilized, why do you claim I'm the problem ? You think the problem is my critical opinion of the welfare plantation/trap ? Lot's of people on welfare have low opinion of the welfare system.

- Welfare and public housing amount to a government created criminal factory. Too bad the state did sterilizations, also too bad states ever began welfare programs. Instead of demanding 20 thous, sue for a million. Let's get the bankruptcy of America over with.

- I would like to see the RAPIST be force-sterilized, not the RAPE VICTIM! I'd be in full support of doing this today to any MALE who impregnates a 14-year-old - (that's RAPE according to every state's statute whether it's consensual or not) - and to any other MALE convicted of rape by DNA evidence! I suggest this would reduce rapes and welfare roles. How can that be a bad thing?

Social workers do see these problems. But you are inside the system and the only ones who can facilitate change.
For example, we are suffer through the agony of paying for higher grocery costs, but I know people are abusing the system. I see it. I hear it.
Why not go back to the days of here is your block of cheese, gallon of milk, and loaf of bread.
Instead, they get something that looks like Debit card. As if they had worked for something and earned it.
But no..... handouts.

Yup, in my state, the cards are called "Independance Cards" heh. Its really the total opposite.
As a social worker we are trying to facilitate change. It's gotten to the point where I have simply said screw the rules, and if I know someone is abusing the system, I refuse to assist them. Luckely my supervisor is behind me on this, cause all the rules tell me I have to assist them. If some of the people who seek these assistance put half as much energy into finding jobs and keeping them, as they do into finding ways to screw over the system, this wouldn't be a problem! - Reply to this comment
- You ought to have to have a license to procreate, no matter what color you are.
It's not fair to force the responsible and moral among us to choose between our own prosperity and that of children born into inadequate homes. - Reply to this comment

No worries, I completely understand. People who do make more always pay more, always have always will. I don't have a problem with that at all. I am proud to pay my taxes, but we should all be treated equally, taxes or otherwise and the burden should not be put upon such a small segment of society.
We always don't care about taxes going up on others, but when it affects us personally we don't like it.
Best of luck to you and appreciate your service, whatever it may be. Sometimes others don't appreciate hard work and proper choices, I do.

Thank you. I agree with you completely. What I do is actually a great job. Yeah I have to deal with some of the dredge of society, but like I've said, I do help those who genuinely need it due to no fault of their own. I work for a part of the department of social services who assist people in emergencies, like when they need emergency food (we have a food bank across the street), we assist homeless people to get into shelters, we assist people who cannot afford their prescriptions get them, we assist those who are moving into new homes and apartments pay for their 1st month's rent and security depsoit, and we assist those who are being evicted becaues of failure to pay, keep their home. We are also a resource center, pretty much if we can't help you we can point you in the direction of someone who can.
What I get annoyed with, is the 25 year old woman who walks in, nails perfectly done, hair professionaly done, driving a nice new car, who receives cash assistance and food stamps, and has received these all of her life, who asks me for food from our food pantry. And when I ask her what she spent her food stamps on, she shrugs her shoulders and says "guess I just didn't budget right". That is NOT what we are here for! We are here for emergencies! That is not an emergency! - Reply to this comment
