We liked Katie and always came home to see her broadcast. We will miss her and thought another woman or Harry or Anderson would be a better choice.
Time will tell.

Scott Pelley is wonderful on 60 Minutes and hopefully he will be able to bring his combination of hard news, great research-based stories and dynamic disposition to the nightly news. His pieces on 60 Minutes have been some of the most memorable, exciting, well produced news pieces in my recent memory from the BP story to the CIA Rendition program. I hope the CBS evening news becomes more lively instead of Pelley feeling like he has to be more stale, solemn in the mold I feel Couric thought she had to be to be considered 'serious' enough for the Murrow chair - though with his background, Pelley shouldn't have the same issue. This decision demonstrates CBS is placing a higher priority on news and experience instead of another affable morning show host for news lite. I haven't watch the CBS evening news in years, preferring to just go online and listen to the News Hour, but I'll give it a chance again with Pelley at the helm.

As an avid CBS news fan, I remember sitting on my grandpa's lap watching Dan Rather I am very disappointed that Harry Smith was not given the honor of hosting the CBS Evening News. Mr. Smith has proven himself time and time again as a dedicated, educated, entertaining, and informative fill-in for the CBS Evening News and as a full-time co-host for the CBS Morning show (I find it difficult to watch the Early Show; definitely miss the chemistry between Dave Price, Harry Smith, and Russ Mitchell).

I am very disappointed that Harry Smith was not chosen. When he was on the Early Show, it was my favorite AM show. Now I never watch it. He comes across as trustworthy, caring, honest...a person you would like to spend some time with.

I think this is the best decision CBS's news division could have made. Scott Pelley is an intelligent, experienced reporter, and I look forward to seeing him on my television screen on a nightly basis.

I grew up with Walter Cronkite gracing my TV every night, and it's been hard to watch the declining standards of broadcast journalism over the years. CBS has been a consistent leader in providing the journalism we deserve, and Scott Pelley will continue that tradition. Thanks to the CBS brass for choosing him.

CBS obviously has become acustomed to the basement Couric put them in and choose to stay there.

I must admit I am upset at the way CBSNews overlooked Russ Mitchell for the anchor spot. Someone earlier said it that if anyone wants to anchor the CBSNews they must have silver hair to do it. Well, Russ has been around pulling the late shift for this network for years. I think America and CBS would have benefitted from him. Scott Pelley? C'mon MAN!!!?
The problem with the CBSNews is they are still stuck in the format of Edward R Murrow. That's fine to proud of that history, but we are now in an era that begs for an even balance of viewpoints from all different sides UNBIASEDLY! Katie Couric couldn't do it and I don't think Pelley can either. Besides, all the editors will do is cut and splice a topic to slant it to one side. The Couric/Palin interview was extremely fixed. I feel everyone thinks at CBS, the anchor has to be a liberal like Dan Rather to slant the story just to make a name for themselves. (The AirGuard issue got him fired, right?) I wish CBSNews one day become more equal on their reporting and give up on the NPR/PBS approach they have been doing over the years. Become a competitor to FoxNews and tell Dave (Letterman) to shut up! I still enjoy Sunday Morning.
