- Donate to a Veterans Charity in Fred Phelps name. Have the charity send Fred the thank you card. When he sees that all he is doing is raising money for a cause he despises he will quit.
Pass it on. Heck start a Facebook page. - Reply to this comment
- Probably none of the Founding Fathers would have inflicted such gross insensitivity upon the feelings of hurt and grieving families as to protest outside a funeral. They were better Christians than that.

- I cried when I saw the protesters of the Baptist Church, SHAME SHAME on them, I have a son in as well and How dare they stand up and disrespect our Soldiers. Hell if it was not for them fighting for thir freedom and rights, those people would not have the lives they have in this country. . How Disrespectful That was, Have them go and fight for our rights over there and they come back and lets just see what they say with no arm or a missing leg, or in a coffen. SHAME SHAME ON THEM.
My Families Hearts and Prayers are with your Family. I am so sorry that people in this counry can be so inconsiderate towards their Own Freedom - Reply to this comment

BUT NO WORRIES I HAVE PUT PROTESTING JUSTICES FAMILY FUNERALS ON MY BUCKET LIST I CANT WAIT TO SEE HOW THEY REACT!!! I LOVE WHAT THE ONE SAID THEY DONT HAVE THE COMMON SENSE GOD GAVE A GOAT!! AMEN AND GOD BLESS THE TRUE AMERICANS AND HEROES THAT TRULY PROTECT OUR RIGHTS.

- Mr. Snyder and any other parent of a fallen soldier, sue under the Hate Speech law. The "God hates ****" is considered hate speech against a protected group. Sue, sue, SUE!!!

- Where did my comment go?
Conway, the issue was whether or not the Snyder family would be allowed to recover for emotional distress - whether or not the Westboro 'Baptists' would be allowed to picket was not at issue (they are).
This wasn't about limiting speech, it was whether or not allowing recovery posed a 'chilling effect' on speech. But given that the Phelps' are AMPLIFYING speech by using egregious shock tactics, why shouldn't their speech be chilled to be brought back down to the level of attention it warrants on the merits?
Then maybe they'd go picket in front of Capitol Hill - where the media wouldn't have paid them any mind.
This ruling was ridiculous ... Scalia probably still uses a typewriter and sends things by mail ... - Reply to this comment
- God has not left His throne and put any human in charge. Rev.Fred Phelps i'd b mighty concerned to b calling myself a Rev. you have a lot of blood on your hands as a man of the cloth and will answer to God Almighty for all of it. The Word(BIBLE) says in John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples,if ye have LOVE one to another" sir no where in that verse does the word Hate appear. So now are you spreading love to b called a disciple of God, don't think so.Mr.Snyder as a human being and a Child of God I Apolijize to you and your family for your loss and not being able to have your time of closer but thank you for your sons sacrafice for what he gave for my freedom.God is a God of Mercy; but He is also a God of Wraft. Those who think they are acting in His behalf will indeed answer to Him for their actions, and that you can count on. God will have no part of Hate and those who serve Him in truth don't either.I'm truely sorry for what you have suffered, i'm ashamed of our goverment for not standing up for you and your rights as well, as for Westboro Baptist Church you are in my prayers that God will show you that you should be spreading Love not Hate. Please we all know how to love its in our spirit; we have to be taught how to Hate,God have mercy on us all!

- This story hurt the heart of me as well as the heart of my 8 1/2 year old boy. Mr. Snyder my son wants you to know that what your son did for this country was so important and wonderful. Just this week he told me about the four amendments of the constitution and while those mean people from that church may not have violated there right to free speech he is certain and upset that they HAVE violated the amendment that says that you have the right to assemble but you must do it peacefully and shouting at a family during their sons funeral is anything but assembling peacefully. So according to my little man those people should have to pay you based on that amendment and if they can't be nice they should not be allowed in the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

- I am so saddened by this judgement about the protests being allowed at the military funerals. It truly is a sickening slap in the face by our Government. I especially am very confused because it seemed when there was that shooting tradgedy in Arizona an amazing thing happened, the Senate worked "hard and fast" to pass Bill SB1101 To BAN protests at the Funerals???????? Please someone explain to me the difference. There should be No protesting at any funerals. This violates the rights of the people to have privacy at their most vulnerable and sad moments.

- You can't shout fire in a crowded theater. Does free speech mean you can't be charged with inciting to riot or causing a disturbance? In Canada, free speech is a legal right "subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." Examples of such limits: "Public Incitement of Hatred" and "Wilful Promotion of Hatred" are criminal offences, although there are exceptions carved out - see:
