- I think Katie did a wonderful job delivering the news. Way to go! I was not impressed with the Tom Cruise story. He is not news. Stick with what people really want to hear.

- I have been watching CBS' rival NBC for years. I was curious how Katie would do so I tuned in...and glad that I did. I thought the first news broadcast by Katie was well done. Personally, I felt the change in presentation was very refreshing. She still stuck to the news, making it factual, and on the money. Change in format was a definite plus. I intend to keep watching.

- Not too bad for the first time out of the box.
I sounded too much like a news reader, and not like a reporter. I also think we can do without the "free speech", save it for 60 minutes. Also lose the "snapshot". I too agree with other who have commented. Give us the new "straight" not biased against the President and the Republican Party. Truth be known I like Elizabeth Vargas on ABC, she sounds more sincere and concern in her delivery of the news. - Reply to this comment
- I have watched Katie Couric since her beginning on the Today Show. She was a breath of fresh air on that morning show and is the same on the evening news. I was very proud to be among this nation's people who had the privilege of watching history in the making! It is sad to think that it took this long to breach the "good ole' boy" club and reach this point, but I believe that there is no better woman to represent women across this country.
As for those who are bashing the celeb picture of the day, get over it! It was intended to be a light-hearted piece to bring up the rear of the newscast.
I know this has to be a huge adjustment for Katie, and I am eager to watch her grow and become the great evening anchor that rivals her role as a great morning anchor! Keep it up, Katie! - Reply to this comment
- Katie was confident did a superb job. This is about professionalism. That fact was evident and I enjoyed the displayal.
Katie, There was no need to ask for words that are to come from you.
Pick your own words before somebody elses Ms.

- It is sad that the evening news is now about TomKats baby... WHO CARES!!!. What is this world coming to when that is the most anticipated story. What about what is really going on in the world and in this country. I like Katie I just don't like the format the news is taking. If I wanted to see that I would watch E! or go on the internet.

- I stopped watching CBS new back in the mid 70's. for the simple reason that I found Dan Rather to be obnoxious and biased. About the only difference between Dan Rather and Katie Couric is gender. If you want CBS's ratings to go up, give us the news without the slant, and save the editorials for 60 Minutes.

- Who is monitoring this post page? People are posting 3 or 4 times in a row....how unprofessional.....people wake up!!

- Katie receives two thumbs up x2 from my husband and I. The broadcast was very interesting, we loved the Free Speech segment with Morgan Spurlock and can't wait to see Rush. Katie did a fantastic job delivering the news, introducing the segments and doing so with great ease. We will miss Dan Rather during election time because of his capablility of keeping the boring election coverage upbeat with his colorful commentary... but otherwise Katie fits the bill for our viewing taste 100%

- Katie did a superb job! What an attractive-and audience building-combination of Cute and Cutting. As long as she maintains her individual integrity and demands straight answers rather than cleverly disguised non-answers, she will earn my respect and that of so many others who are disenchanted by journalists who allow their guests to tap-dance away around the question that was asked. Known to civilians as a "Rice-rant", (as in Condoleezza).
Being easy on the eyes will help her deliver her message to a broader audience. New closing comment? Hmmm....While I'd like her to say, "Hey Ed in Chicago, frost up a few mugs, I'll be right over." ...I guess I'd settle for a simple slow zoom to her face with KC saying, "I'll be back you tomorrow night - I'd like you to join me for the CBS Evening News. See you then."
Another suggestion is putting Prime Time Katie and the Evening News where it belongs...in Prime Time. Who's really available to watch the news at 5:30pm CST? The working force of America is commuting...those at home near a TV are busy fixing dinner or helping with homework. The message is missing the audience. Katie would rule a spot at 30 minute evening news format at 7 or 730 CST. Corporate Americans are finally home and want to know more about what happened in their world that day. Are you just going to hand it over to CNN? Katie would certainly be a viable lead-in to the entertainment that follows. Think about it! - Reply to this comment
- Swallow hard. Cut your losses. Honor the history of CBS and Bring back Bob Schieffer!
A Talking Head, though a perky talking head, not News person, Thats what you got yourselves but I guess thats what you wanted. I am a big fan of Katie Couric just not in this capacity. You should have installed her into your morning program to give it a personality and maybe one reason to watch.
Please tell me something I dont already know or couldnt find out by watching CNN Headline news for five minutes. I counted about ten minutes of actual new between ads, opinion, celebrity news and being directed to your website for more in-depth information. CBS could learn from the BBC, PBS or even CBS of years past.
Lack of inspiration is evident in the signoff contest. If Ms. Couric is that much out of her element that she can not come up with anything heartfelt she should simply say,
Good Night,Please join me tomorrow on the CBS Early Show. - Reply to this comment
- Terrible! Fluff, fluff, fluff. 30 yr old pictures of a Prince?,"Free Speech"? Just what we need another opinion. Vanity Fair covers? My sign off is.." goodbye Couric, goodbye CBS news

- As expecte, Katie shined last night. While maintaining her professionalism whe still has the "sparkle" that makes her "Katie". I loved the show and thought Freedom of Speech will be fun
I did not think the segment on Tom Cruise and baby needed to be included. Leave this for the tablois shows (he is yesterdays news) Anyone watching the 6:30 news is probably not interested in Tom Cruise
All and All loved the show and will switch from NBC to CBS because of Katie
I'm sure both Katie and the show will be a huge success - Reply to this comment
