Well, Bob Schieffer was superb in his short run. Imagine all the excellence we've missed by having Rather in there instead of Shieffer all these years! My hope would be that CBS will allow Schieffer to do commentaries occasionally during the Couric broadcast. Maybe once a week. Like Eric Severaid(sp?) from many years ago. Schieffer's comments at the end of Face The Nation are a must watch every Sunday. But, alas,
it probably won't happen. Couric's ego will block it.

I've seen some of the commercials promoting Couric and they are insulting. I don't need to be told what the news of the day means. Just report it and let me interpret the meaning. She may just go down like Connie Chung. You can take that female voice in the morning news shows but I'm not sure of the evening. But then maybe it doesn't really matter all that much who fills in the gaps between the drug company commercials! The results will only be known 6 months or a year from now when we compare the commercials then from those now. If it's still just aging baby boomer drug ads then nothing is changed.

It's funny though. I would have thought that John Siegenthaler was a better choice for NBC. And someone like ODonnell would be a better pick for CBS as a female. But it's the star power that rules the day.

I hope Katie is promoting the use of the technique that let her shed 20 pounds over night by the government. The defecit certainly could need the Katie diet!

Bob Schieffer -

You are truly a talent in your profession. I looked forward to your newscasts because I would really learn about what is going on in the world. You are not just a "talking head" anchor. You asked the questions that I would ask to clarify points made in the different news stories, and I appreciated your wit and humor about the news. I also liked how you would ask the reporters to give their views on what they are reporting. I am sad that CBS decided to go with Katie Couric for the evening news. Although she is an experienced "talk show" person, a serious journalist such as Bob Schieffer should only be delivering the evening news. I will no longer be watching the CBS Evening News come September 5th, 2006.

Sadly, this is the last day I will be watching the CBS Evening News. I find Katie Couric's delivery style too anoying. It is like listening to a first grade teacher talk to their students "Okey, eveyone pull out your weekly reader and lets talk about this terrible thing called terrorism". I prefer a person with a more adult, objective, and authoritative delivery.

Bob Schieffer, you are the top. I worked to get your egomaniacal predecessor off CBS News and never dreamed that they had a person of your caliber waiting in the wings. Your time came and went all too fast. Because of you I started watching CBS again. Wish you could remain. Will give your replacement a chance. All the best to you.

I can't imagine what CBS was thinking! Nothing against Katie Couric, but come on! She's a lightweight next to Bob Schieffer! My husband and I had finally found a news anchor we truly respect and looked forward to watching each evening. You've just lost two viewers who had been very loyal for the last 18 months.

Bob,
I hope you don't mind me addressing you as Bob, but I feel you are a part of my family. When I hear your voice reporting the news....it is...well you have the most soothing, caring voice. I love to hear you report the news. And don't get me started when you laugh at something. I can tell it is deep and real. You are a wonderful journalist and broadcaster and I will miss your soothing voice at 6 pm each evening, but I know Katie will do a fantastic job. Last night when you were so choked up...I begain to weep...Anyway...Best of Luck to you and May God continue to Bless you and your beautiful family!
