- OK all you so called conservationists.....name me three items we use in our daily lives that are renewable, recyclable, and biodegradable (food and water do not count.).......how about wool, cotton and wood. So tell me again why are we not using our timber resources, replanting, and leaving new timber for our children? And Andy says using timber is not a good thing----he really blew it on this one.

- I think that when Andy says we are cutting trees faster than we are growing them, he is referring to humanity and to the earth as a whole, not to the United States. Some people need to adjust their concept of "we".
Either way, a bunch of planted trees is not the same as a forest. Ecologically, a tree farm is a ghost town. And the many animals that lose their homes and and forced out of existence when a forest is mowed down dont magically reappear when some corporation plants a bunch of trees. - Reply to this comment
- Andy, Thanks for your comments on the need for restorability...a direction we should take sooner rather than later, lest we lead ourselves to an eventual "doom". In support of your commentary, perhaps you and viewers might like to review the ideas and outlook of Mr. Storm Cunningham, discoverer of the restoration economy, author of the book by the same title. He is the Founder of the Revitalization Institute at, http://revitalization.org/ and you can review his outlook at, http://www.restorica.org/

- Dear Mr. Rooney,.
Ive been watching your show for over 20 years. This evening was the first time i was dissappointed in your journalism. Please refer to the National Hardwood Lumbermans Association for U.S. Forest Regeneration. You will find that our timber is growing at a rate of at least 1.5 times our harvest.

- Andy says, "If running out of oil doesn't scare you, maybe an iceberg the size of Connecticut floating away from Antarctica and hitting the United States will get your attention." YES, that would scare the hell out of me. Imagine an iceberg of any size floating away from Antarctica and past South America on either side, through the tropics both north and south of the equator and then hitting the United States. Not possible much less probable no matter how much global warming occurs, Andy. Maybe you need a refresher course in geography.

- Andy Looney strikes again trying to put fear in all Americans about an iceberg hitting the USA and why because grandpa and some other nuts said it might happen. Well my grandpa had a word on this to "Uff da, I heard it all!"

- Andy does not have the correct facts. I work for a major paper company and it is well known in the industry that more trees are planted each year than are cut down. Our forests are renewable resources. We currently have more trees in the US than we did when our country was founded.
