Please stop making this war about "rights". It is a war. They're not talking about banning all weapons just the assault weapons. Who really needs one in their day to day life except for a criminal. The U.S. does need to be concerned with this war because it's at our border and the product is killing many of our people. Think about the fact that a lot of drugs are brought into Mexico only as a way to get them into the U.S. The realty is that we have a stake in this drug war. As far as illegal immigration goes, it has become a fact of our way of life. If you are really opposed to illegal immigration, I suggest you have no lawn care done, don't eat in most privately owned restaurants, make sure you know who picked your fruit, etc. Most of us will just complain about immigration taking our jobs, but the truth is we do nothing else. How many of you are going to stop eating in your very restaurant because you don't know if the cook has papers?

Assault weapons are already banned in the US.

In brief, the Government acknowledges that it has no control of the border. TONS of drugs and Millions of ILLEGALS enter this country. TONS of cash and TONS of weapons leave this country. They have no way of knowing how many "TERRORISTS" have crossed (IF there IS such a creature)
TWO things were of major interest:
(1) The Department of Homeland STUPIDITY acknowledges they have no control - therefore, HOW are they going to protect you from TERRORISTS, if they cannot stop gangbangers.
(2) The "head" of the Department of Homeland STUPIDITY (and others) tries to blame YOUR right to keep and bear ARMS for the weapons going south. The only trouble is ........ they showed and talked of MISSILES, HAND GRENADES, BELT FED MACHINES GUNS. Those are weapons STOLEN FROM THE AMERICAN MILITARY. They are not coming from the SEMI-auto Civilian world! They are direct from your Military's ARMORIES. Not only can your Government NOT PROTECT the borders .... and YOU. The Government CANNOT HANG ON TO IT'S OWN WEAPONS!!! And then they try to use THEIR failures to attack YOUR RIGHTS.

So if Homeland Security is doing everything possible to help, why is it that when you go through a Border Patrol checkpoint on US side they wave everyone one through. They didn't stop one car. I figured that Border Patrol was going to be very strict with checking everybody because of everything going on in Mexico. This happened just last weekend not too far out of El Paso. How is that helping??

We should legalize drugs and put an end to these useless wastes of human lives.

Mr. yoname, your statement is a contradiction. You say, "i did not mention to kill all drug users" and then you say, "in the spirit of that comment i added that you have to kill all drug users also."

Here is the exact quote from powiedzcos,

"I hope that Mexico will clean its country from corruption and kill most of the scum that smuggle and deals with drugs. But also, WE the US need to fight and prosecute all the drug smugglers or start legalizing drugs."

And, here is your exact quote,

"...Mr Anderson You almoust did not mention that this problem is fueled by drug users. and create all the subsequent problems. (also as Mr. powiedzcos says, kill most of the scum that smuggle and deals with drugs, lets do more why dont we kill all scum that uses drugs)"

You agree with Mr. powiedzcos to kill the "scum" smugglers and dealers and then extend his plan to include drug users.

By the way, the violence is not fueled by drug users as you say. On the contrary, the violence is fueled by the war on unlicensed drug users, producers, and dealers. It is fueled by the fascist thugs who support this insane and unjust war against freedom.

Bullfighter11 says "In a country where you can prevent people from smoking and raise the price of cigarettes to an unbelievable level, you can't prevent people from taking drugs?"

Mr. Bullfighter11, have you ever prevented any adult from smoking or drinking what they chose to smoke or drink? Have you ever prevented anyone from exercising their natural rights by threatening to punish them if they do not obey? Have you ever tried? My guess is that your answer is "no" to all three questions because otherwise, you would have been given an unforgettable lesson in manners.

Bullfighter11 says, "...in to this country drug smugglers get a slap on the wrist when they are caught."

Wrong. In fact, many honest consumers and businessmen are routinely treated like they are worse than murderers. After more than two decades of escalating this insane war against freedom and millions of arrests, military-style assaults against peaceful people are now taking place in every city and town across this once-free country. There are now thousands of heavily armed government gangs that specialize in using Gestapo tactics against peaceful people. They break down doors, invade homes, terrorize families, and murder anyone who resists. They attack suspects, throw them to the ground, push faces into the pavement, point guns at heads, and even blow heads off in the name of fighting drugs and guns. They act like Nazis attacking Jews. In their attempt to combat what they perceive to be evil, the anti-drug and anti-gun crusaders have become evil. They have succeeded in transforming the land of the free into the world's leading prison state.

All this evil is made possible by gun control which is why it is important to restore the Second Amendment. With unrestricted access to guns, law makers and their enforcers would not be able to scapegoat and persecute unpopular minorities like they are currently doing because the victims would arm themselves. The current crop of government thugs would no longer be able to build prisons and fill them with gun owners and drug owners. They would no longer be able to target the young, poor, and politically weak because government goons are no match for an armed citizenry defending their natural rights. Restoring the Second Amendment would quickly eliminate all drug fighter, gun grabbers, illegalizers, and all other advocates of state-sponsored terrorism. Sic Semper Tyrannus. Dear Anderson Cooper and ?60 Minutes?

Thank you for this crucial timely piece. It seems for so long we have heard of the growing fears of the drug violence in Mexico but nothing like what we saw in your report. The numbers of those killed is staggering. And the ways some have been killed is unspeakable. True terrorism.

We feel pain for those who actually must live among this fearful environment on both sides of the border. Beyond fearful for some.

We greatly appreciated all the interviews. And our hearts and prayers go out to the dear families of the innocent victims taken from their loved ones in the most traumatic way. We are so sorry.

We hope and pray more can be done to protect others from further terror, harm and pain. Mexico is a beautiful country with a people who smile and are friendly, humble and hospitable. It?s all of that but also much more. We keep them in our thoughts and prayers, wishing them peace again. Thank you again for this outstanding report which impacts so many lives.

In fact, during the Clinton administration, the ONDCP gave studios consideration to put anti-drug content into TV scripts. Sneaky pukes. I wish painful festering boils on the lot of them.

Because buying and using illegal drugs makes you guilty of committing these horrific crimes against the innocent ?

CINDYmag: Buying illegal drugs is just buying illegal drugs. The people who actually commit the crimes are the ones guilty of them. And, our government has alread gone to "over-educating" us (read: propaganda) on the evils of illegal drugs. They are the corrupt ones.

You all need to go out and get MORE guns, because this government cannot protect you from ANYTHING. And by the way, as proven repeatedly in courts around the Nation, the Police DO NOT have an obligation to protect you. research if if you doubt it.

The very kind of extreme violence in those Mexican border towns that was so ably described in Sunday's (2009-03-01) 60 Minutes is the exact same kind of extreme violence that was tearing apart our esteemed President's own home town and shocking and sickening the nation - 80 years ago.

And we all know what it ultimately took to end that violence.

Yes, the oft-repeated cliché: "Those who forget the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them" is in full force here.

CINDYmag -- I have a few more questions for you to consider.

Have you ever heard of Al Capone and Elliot Ness? What were the results when drug fighters and illegalizers were allowed to illegalize the drug alcohol and wage a war against millions of alcohol consumers, producers, and businessmen?

I will tell you. This violent, brutal, and criminal intervention into the free market produced an equally violent and crime-ridden underground market.

It was not beer drinkers and buyers that caused this violence. They were innocent bystanders. The people who caused the violence were the freedom-violating thugs who supported and prosecuted the war against beer drinkers.

In other words, the violence that you righty deplore today is the predictable consequence of the illegalization war that you blindly support. The violence that you see is a reflection of the violence that you are committing in the name of the law.

Now, ask yourself what ended all that violence? It was not ended by blaming beer drinkers and giving idiotic, hypocritical lectures to young people. Likewise, it was not ended by more laws, more police, and more prisons. On the contrary, the violence was ended when the laws that created it were repealed. The violence ended when drug fighters and illegalizers could no longer use the law in order to murder, assault, rob, and arrest their fellow human beings. Freedom_First@verizon.net

CINDYmag says, I believe a lot of drug users and potential drug users would not go down this road if they realized the evil they are supporting by buying these drugs.

CINDY, you got it backwards because you are blaming the victims. It is the drug fighters and illegalizers who are doing evil and promoting evil.

In order to demonstrate this truth, I have three questions for you.

1)Suppose that you were peacefully minding your own business when a heavily armed gang attacked you, threw you to the ground, pushed your face into the pavement, pointed guns at your head, and blew your head off if you resisted or accidently, just because they did not approve of what you ate for breakfast -- would you say that they were evil or would you conclude that you were the evil one?

2)Suppose that another vicious gang kicked down your door, invaded and ransacked your home, terrorized your family, stole your property, and murdered anyone who resisted, just because they or others did not approve of what you chose to drink or smoke -- would you conclude that those thugs were violent criminals or would you conclude that your family were the criminals?

3)Do you believe that anyone has the right to point a gun at your head in order to force their personal preferences onto you? Freedom_First@verizon.net

yoname says, "kill most of the scum that smuggle and deals with drugs, lets do more why dont we kill all scum that uses drugs"

Mr. yoname, I assume that you do not want to kill all users of prescription drugs or those who use legal drugs such as alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine. Therefore, you only want to kill those drug users whose papers are not in order.

Considering the fact that several hundred million humans have been declared criminals by U.S. drug laws, you are advocating the largest mass murder in history.

I have a better way to win the drug war that is much less bloody and does not violate anyone's rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Every advocate of mass murder like yourself, along with every drug fighter and illegalizer, should be required to meet with a defender of freedom on the field of honor (pistols at point blank range). Every person who does not respect the right of adult individuals to control their own lives, including the right to choose their own food, drink, and medicine, should be required to meet with someone who defends the Constituitonal and universal principle of individual freedom and personal responsibility.

This simple requirement will cause all the drug fighters, illegalizers, and tough-talking fascist thugs to disappear. It would be like turning on a light in a dark room and watching the cockroaches run for cover. Why? Because drug fighters and illegalizers are not honorable people. In fact, they are cowards. Their idea of a fair fight is to hire a dozen goons to point a dozen guns at one head. Freedom_First@verizon.net

I watched this show and was horrified. I believe a lot of drug users and potential drug users would not go down this road if they realized the evil they are supporting by buying these drugs.
I think the US and Mexican governments should buy TV time for public service announcements to educate (and over educate) the public about how the purchase of illegal drugs, even occasionally, is supporting evil people that kill, kidnap, destroy the lives of innocent people. These drug users are paying to keep these evil people in business and giving them enormous power.
I think a lot of people (especially young people) just simply do not realize that their ?fun? drug use is paying these evil people. Education that targets this message will affect some people?s decision to buy and use drugs. Because buying and using illegal drugs makes you guilty of committing these horrific crimes against the innocent ? your money is keeping the evil ones in business ? without you they would not exist. While many people will choice to ignore this message, good people will not.

I have lived all my life on Matamoros, (across Brownsville Tx), i know we as a nation have a lot of problems, but please dont tell us to clean up our contry, FIRST the biggest drug problem is the DEMAND of drugs from the USA, and as long there is demand there will be supply. Almoust everyone in the USA thinks is COOL to do drugs, just look at the last two presidents, BUSH cocaine user, CLINTON pot spoker, ( he didn`t inhale c`mon ), Michael Phelps??? all the TV shows, and movies glorify it, ( well almoust every one )

The Mexican goverment is corrupt, yes it is, but so is the USA goverment, here in the valley ( south Tx.) about 10 years ago they found a house with more than 30 TONS of cocaine inside, how did it cross???? dont be naive and believe everything your goverment tells you.

And for the report in 60 minutes on sunday, Mr Anderson You almoust did not mention that this problem is fueled by drug users. and create all the subsequent problems.
(also as Mr. powiedzcos says, kill most of the scum that smuggle and deals with drugs, lets do more why dont we kill all scum that uses drugs)
