- Per Andy "I read the whole story and found the Coyote were Phoenix but I still didn't know what game they were playing because the reporter never said. The Coyotes won five to four so I knew it wasn't football. It could have been baseball or soccer but probably not in January so it had to be hockey."
TIVO is great. If you read the whole story, you should have noticed the words "overtime" "goal" "third peiod"
Per Andy "Again there was no clue as to who the Hokies were or what game they were playing"
What about the following clues: "Atlantic Coast Conference" "100 point mark" "three pointer" "free throws"

- Interesting topic for people who care about sports & nicknames, but I beg to differ: Here is what Andy had to say:
"Some animals just don't lend themselves to being team nicknames: I can't think of any team named the elephants, the sheep, the goats, pigs or cows".
I believe Tufts University (Medford, Mass.) teams are called "Jumbos", which are those big guys with the big ears & trunks? Guess they didn't have too many of those in the Schenectady area. Too much excess electricity!
Oh yes, & the UNC mascot is a goat, I believe. Why, I don't know, & I was a graduate student there, so I guess I should know! And of course U. of Arkansas teams are "Razorbacks", U. of Nebraska teams are "Huskers" (Not the guys who husk the corn), & we always referred to the school in Raleigh as "Cow College"! And hey, Andy, U. of Texas teams are "Longhorns"! Go figure! Go back to school, Andy. It's never too late to learn important stuff like this! - Reply to this comment

Are you overlooking Bill the Goat, mascot of the United States Naval Academy? - Reply to this comment
- Andy,
After watching your piece tonight on nicknames, I was particularly embarrassed for you. You posted an article on the screen about the Tar Heels game, and then you offered this not-so-brilliant comment:
"Again, there was no clue as to who the Hokies were or what game they were playing."
Well, I paused on the article, and the first paragraph clearly stated that North Carolina defeated Virginia Tech. Directly above, the headline reads, "Latta, Pringle lead the way as Tar Heels Rout Hokies."
It doesn't take a CBS News correspondent to figure out that if the headline states Tar Heels over Hokies, then the Tar Heels must have been from North Carolina and the losing team, the Hokies, must have been from Virginia Tech.
Further adding to your expert investigative skills, you said later that, "There aren't many sports fans who don't know 'The Tar Heels' are from North Carolina."
Hmmmmm. Let's see. If that's true, then there was only one other college mentioned in the first paragraph. Andy, I'm not really sure how many more clues you need.
To make matters worse, you offered this award-winning piece of broadcast journalism:
"I read the whole story and found the Coyote were Phoenix but I still didn't know what game they were playing because the reporter never said."
Well, if you look just above the headline, you will read something that says "NHL Roundup." Andy, if you don't know what the NHL stands for, maybe should just leave sports alone.
